It wasn't Newt that divided the conservative vote. He is the most conservative candidate running since Reagan.
Sad day for America when they threw away an opportunity to elect a the magnificent speaker.

I see it the same way you do. The impulsive base, jumped on Santorum before they even had a clue about who or what he was.

One would think that it was obvious, since he already had lost his Senate seat by a record number as well as had run under 2% for about 9 straight months. That, and the other impulse candidates like Cain, Bachmann, etc,.

The base has become too unstable to command any party. They have become a heard of cats.

The candidate with the highest ratio of ‘very conservative’ supporters is none other than Rick Santorum.

Yes, Newt has divided the conservative vote, to the benefit of Romney.

See Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Wyoming, Alaska and Washington.

If the Newt supporters had supported Santorum, they could have defeated Romney in 6 more states. Newt has only delievered 2 and has cost ‘team conservative’ 6 states.
