While Sullivan did not discuss specifics of the conversation, he confirmed that Perry remains a supporter of Newt Gingrich.
After dropping out of the race in January, Perry endorsed the former speaker, largely supporting his emphasis of states’ rights. Since then, the Texas Governor has worked as a Gingrich campaign surrogate.

If only Governor Perry hadn’t needed back surgery when he did. I feel like he’d be cleaning up about now, and we would have an excellent candidate who would have no qualms about taking it to Obama.

Santorum may do well in Tx but winner take all aint gonna happen.
If he hopes to make it to the Convention, he will have to go in debt by the tens of millions. I don't think Newt is that stubborn or ignorant to believe that he is still a contender. He will probably pull out sometime this month.
The latest inside info I have on his supporters if he drops out, most of his support will likely go to Paul and the rest will go to Romney and Santorum in an even split. (About 1 point for each)

From the statewide vote, compute the number of delegates each candidate receives by multiplying that candidate’s percentage of the statewide vote by the total number (152) of district and at-large delegates.
* Beginning with the candidate receiving the most votes statewide, round up fractional delegates of 0.51% and above to the next whole number. Round down fractional delegates below 0.51%.
* Repeat for the next highest vote getter until all 152 delegates are bound.
A Presidential candidate may withdraw from participation in the Presidential Primary ... by filing with the Secretary of the SREC a signed and acknowledged request ... votes cast for that candidate shall be deemed votes for uncommitted [Rule 38 - Section 2.d]
In addition to the ballot listing of the names of the qualifying Presidential candidates, there shall appear at the bottom of such listing ... a place designated “Uncommitted” ... [Rule 38 - Section 3.c]”

I totally agree.
I some times wonder if Newt is aware of the sticking power of his base?
The average conservative looks to the media to tell them that Romney is in like Flint, which extrapolates into Santorum as the only alternative, and they swallow it whole.
Those of us who WILL NOT SETTLE believe in the purpose of a state convention are not going to buy Santorum, no way, no how, until Newt says he’s out.
We need delegates for Newt, beginning at our local precinct meetings, county and then state conventions, and on to national.
Texas has not committed to anyone anywhere but by mouthing an opinion to their neighbor.
Texas gets to protest on May 29, with their primary vote and when the ballot closes at the end of the day, we show for Newt that evening in our precinct meeting, where the political sausage is still made.
I have seen one Romney sign and one Santorum sign in my Texas neighborhood.

Newts base has eroded, but I’m staying in until he is out.
Texas WAS winner-take-all, but because Presidential primary elections were being decided by other states and were over by the date Texas was having its winner-take-all primary, it was decided to move the date so Texas could have some influence on who the presidential nominee would be, but at the cost of changing from winner-take-all to proportional, but Bush signed the extension to the Voting Rights Act so three Federal Judges could seize control of elections in Texas and other states who tried to leave the union a hundred and fifty years ago, and so two of the three federal judges named Orlando Garcia and Xavier Rodriguez made sure the primary was moved to real a late date May 29 which is a date where Texas could have been winner-take-all but still isn’t because the rules that were changed to make Texas proportional are for some unknown reason are still in effect, preventing Texas from being winner-take-all which we would like to be.
Still hope he might run for national office one day, but it doesn’t help us now.
What a dream ticket.....wow.
