April 5, 2012 Pope Denounces Dissident Priests

VATICAN CITY — Pope Benedict XVI denounced priests who have questioned church teaching on celibacy and ordaining women, saying Thursday they were disobeying his authority to try to impose their own ideas on the church.

Pope Benedict made the rare and explicit criticism from the altar of St. Peter's Basilica in his homily on Holy Thursday, when priests recall the promises they made when ordained.

In 2006, a group of Austrian priests launched the Pfarrer Initiative, or pastor initiative, a call to disobedience aimed at abolishing priestly celibacy and opening up the clergy to women to relieve the shortages of ...

Dissident priests certain should be called to task but,IMO,it's just about as important to do the same to certain prominent politicians.Excommunication of Pelosi and Kerry would be a good start.

"Excommunication of Pelosi and Kerry would be a good start."

True. My own beliefs are much, much closer to the teachings of the Catholic Church than Pelosi and Kerry's -- and I'm not even a Catholic! The Dem pols are, in effect Catholics one day every 2 or 6 years -- on Election Day! The Catholic Church would have much more credibility in my mind if it told them to take a walk and find a religion more consistent with their own beliefs.

I’ve never understood why non-Catholics like Kerry and Kennedy feel compelled to masquerade. Is it that they would never be elected without that religion as their link to the rest of the dumbMasses? Surely they would still be elected if they converted to Episcopalianism or some other gay- and priest-marriage friendly church?

Also, why the Pope continues to play possum on this, instead of recalling them to Rome and leaving them defrocked and destitute, without even a return ticket, is beyond me. How can you even pretend to be at the top of a church hierarchy, when people at the bottom feel free to ignore you? The Catholic church’s liberals evidently aren’t all just in America.

LOL That should have them shaking in their boots—NOT. Has it really taken this long for him to notice that he has lost control over a goodly number of his shepherds and flock?

He speaks out about celibacy which is clearly Scripturally wrong but let's innocent baby murderers go uncensored.

Celibacy being a personal issue, must be defended, or he would have to come to terms with the fact that for all his own long life, living single was for naught. It would be hard for him to admit this.

Other issues that are really important to all that is holy, such as the lives of innocent, precious babies and other really important moral issues he doesn't properly confront or discipline.

In what planet are you living? BXVI has condemned abortion in the strongest of terms. Celibacy is a call to the priesthood has biblical and traditional support. You need to go familiarize yourself with Catholic saints who were simple priests to theological like St. Aquinas.

Verbal condemnation is good if there are teeth in it. The Pope is responsible for Church discipline at every level. He lets people such as Kennedy, Kerry, Pelosi, and many other politicians who are heavy promoters, enablers and who champion evils such as abortion and homosexuality continue in the Catholic Church without discipline. He is clearly at fault for this.

The First Vatican Council clearly states: If anyone thus speaks, that the Roman Pontiff has only the office of inspection or direction, but not the full and supreme power of jurisdiction over the universal Church, not only in things which pertain to faith and morals, but also in those which pertain to the discipline and government of the Church spread over the whole world; or, that he possesses only the more important parts, but not the whole plenitude of this supreme power; or that this power of his is not ordinary and immediate, or over the churches altogether and individually, and over the pastors and the faithful altogether and individually: let him be anathema.
