(CNN Howard) Kurtz wondered how MSNBC could allow Sharpton to participate in the rally and subsequently cover the event for his MSNBC show. “How on earth can Al Sharpton go there, be an activist, stand with the parents, and he asks people to contribute money, and he went to the Justice Department with the parents of Trayvon Martin. And then he does his [MSNBC] show, and then he speaks at the rally again. He’s covering himself,” Kurtz said. “How can MSNBC allow that?”

MSNBC, for its part, would seem to have planned for this kind of role for Sharpton from the start of his career there.

“We are breaking the mold,” president Phil Griffin told the New York Times in September. “Anything he does on the streets, he can talk about on air — we won’t hide anything.”

AP has the same report.

The reporter left us to wonder at a new reason for expulsion ~ "caught with an empty bag of marijuana'.

Think about that one a bit.

Here in Fairfax you actually get expelled for having an "unknown" pill, even aspirin, but if you had an "empty bag of aspirin pills' they wouldn't expel you ~ but this school system in Florida is undoubtedly giving the others ideas!

That one has been floating around, in and out of FR, but no one has indicated if it has any legitimacy.

Let’s just slow down here.

We were told he was suspended for being in an “unauthorized area”.

Now his parents say it was an empty bag with pot residue.

If I’m not supposed to believe Zimmerman and a few other eyewitnesses, I’m not jumping to believe the young man’s father’s version of this story.

Let’s just wait.

The press is working as hard as they can at not working as hard as they can on this.

What irritates me is this:

“fresh-faced, innocent looking teenager”

At a ‘west end’ bar [now defunct] the most successful ‘dealer’ was a kid who looked for all the world like Howdy Doody.

I am not exaggerating.

He was so virginal, clean cut, down home, mom & apple pie, All American you’d NEVER suspect he was dealing dope on a huge scale.

Being the rube that I am, I only found out what he was after asking why the local yutes were so enamored with this red haired, pasty faced, freckled ‘cracker’ that they nearly broke their own legs, jumping up to greet him every time he came through the door.

Imagine my surprise.

He looked like every kid in our HS FFA program.
[frankly, I always wondered how he even got in the place to begin with because he looked to be about 16, at best]

“Looks” mean absolutely nothing.

Villainy wears no deadlier guise than that of virtue.

Probably. "Empty Bag" claims by school officials should always be accepted reluctantly if at all.

Remember, these will be the same public school authorities who also claim neither they nor the teachers can tell the difference between an aspirin and roofies.

That problem is rather nationwide ~

Zimmerman and HOW MANY EYE WITNESSES?

There's JOHN, and he missed the killing shot! There's a 13 year old, and if she's to be believed she saw ONLY Zimmerman pulling his gun, not Martin ~ which raises a huge question about where Martin was and what was he doing when Zimmerman pulled his gun.

I"m sure a tricky analyst might construe that all sorts of ways.

BTW, the original stories have folks saying they witnessed things AFTER the gunshot. By that time Martin was dead. Only John and the 13 year old are identified as witnessing anything just before the shot.

One paper says he was late for school - someone else says he hit a bus driver.

He was late for school because he got in a fight with the bus driver because he was smoking pot on the bus.

I wonder how long before the “empty bag of weed” becomes several dime bags.

Because he isn’t 13? He is 17.

It must be frustrating to have to reconfigure your defense every time new evidence comes out.

The police report says he had pulled out his phone to call the pd again after Martin confronted him. Perhaps that is what the 13 year old saw.

Plus a broken nose and injury to the back of the head. Yeah, I’d say someone who saw Martin on top beating Zimmerman, and Zimmerman yelling for help is a significant witness.

My point however was, if no one on Zimmerman’s “side” who saw any of this is to be believed, why would I immediately believe the father’s description of the disciplinary incident?

I wasn’t there for any of this, my main objection is to it being a national incident.

Only Zimmerman's apologists have to reconfigure their defense. I"m sticking to the original story ~ Zimmerman follows Martin. Zimmerman shoots Martin.

That explains what Zimmerman was doing and how Martin ended up dead.

The rest is relevant if and only if it fits into that sequence.

Are you now telling me that Martin followed Zimmerman and Martin shot Zimmerman?

Not to be sarcastic but we've had folks on FR threads arguing that Martin tracked down Zimmerman and beat his head into the sidewalk.

A broken nose is not an uncommon injury if you get into a fight. What is the relevance of a broken nose to our knowledge that ZImmerman followed Martin, and then shot Martin.
