....The CIA declined to comment on Rogers status or provide any information on him for this article. Roger declined repeated requests for an interview. The Post agreed to withhold some details, including Rogers real name, his full cover identity and his age, at the request of agency officials, who cited concerns for his safety. Although CIAofficials often have their cover identities removed when they join the agencys senior ranks, Roger has maintained his.
A native of suburban Virginia,Roger grew up in a family where several members, across two generations, have worked at the agency.
When his own career began in 1979, at the CIAs southern Virginia training facility, known as The Farm,Roger showed little of what he would become. A training classmate recalled him as an underperformer who was pulled aside by instructors and admonished to improve.
....His first overseas assignments were in Africa, where the combination of dysfunctional governments, bloody tribal warfare and minimal interference from headquarters provided experience that would prove particularly useful in the post-Sept. 11 world.....
Its chaotic, and it requires you to understand that and deal with it psychologically, said a former Africa colleague. Roger developed an enormous amount of expertise in insurgencies, tribal politics, warfare writing hundreds of intelligence reports.
He also married a Muslim woman he met abroad, prompting his conversion to Islam. Colleagues said he doesnt shy away from mentioning his religion but is not demonstrably observant. There is no prayer rug in his office, officials said, although he is known to clutch a strand of prayer beads.
Roger was not part of the first wave of CIA operatives deployed after the Sept. 11 attacks, and he never served in any of the agencys black sites, where al-Qaeda prisoners were held and subjected to harsh interrogation techniques.
But in subsequent years,..

There is a fox guarding our henhouse...
.....And the White House.
A) be brought to the attention of Michelle Bachmann of the House Intelligence Committee, if she is not already aware of it; and
B) be addressed by her somehow as part of her appearance on a major American Sunday Morning talk show today, regardless of whether she is asked about it or not, to bring the situation to the light of day and make it an issue.
In fact, such a situation of "fox in the henhouse" is more endemic in the USG than you would think. A deadly serious situation of internal, compromised security if you ask me. If I were running FBI Counterintelligence, I would have an information collection bead on this agent of influence 24/7 from the moment he left his house to go to the agency, to every prayer session he attend(ed) at ADAMS Center (Muslim Brotherhood Central for the D.C. area), to all other official and unofficial outings and activings, which just might reveal a brush pass or two. Serious. A guy such as this more than ought to be burned and not a moment too early--this is very troubling. Hoping indeed Michelle brings this up, or maybe even Rick Santorum on the campaign trail and force Obama on this. HE ought to know how things work, (or shouldn't work as the case might be).
This section of the story is either propaganda or Al-Qaeda is interfering with someones agenda.
Does this smell right to anyone?
Dead men tell no tales.
Indeed.
Al Qaedas Network in Iran
“An al Qaeda cell slated to take part in one of the final plots ordered by Osama bin Laden made use of an Iran-based terror network that, according to the Obama administration, operates under an agreement between al Qaeda and the Iranian government. That revelation has emerged from legal proceedings in Germany, including the trial of Ahmad Wali Siddiqui, an al Qaeda recruit who took the stand for the first time last week in Koblenz...........
[Big SNIP]
When exposing al Qaedas Iran-based network in 2011, the Obama administration highlighted its role in the Iraq and Afghan wars. But this same network has delivered recruits to al Qaeda who were slated to take part in attacks in the West. Iranian officials may or may not have known the specific details of Osama bin Ladens 2010 plot. But we do know this: Al Qaedas Iranian network has a global reach, capable of delivering trained terrorists to Europes doorstep.”

Another job for Mitch Rapp.
The idea of Iran supporting al-Qaeda in their efforts to kill fellow Shiites in Iraq is unnatural and doesn’t make sense. The fact that the US and Iran have common deadly enemies in the Taliban, al-Qaeda and Salafist-Wahhabist extremism is all the more reason for a lowering of tensions between the two countries. A strong Iran as a counter to regional Sunni hegemony is in the US’s interests.
I’ve noticed that your excerpting of articles is done in a highly manipulative manner. If one did not click the link and actually read the story, one would have a very different take on what information is actually being presented.
nepotism has been the downfall of many organizations.
How much more is there??
Or maybe to catch a Muslim terrorist it takes a Muslim...sounds like this guy was effective and fixed whatever was wrong at the agency with respect to killing Al Qaeda.
Possibly. Then again he might not have been involved.
Since I needed to put text into the thread that supported the title, while also showing a bit of how the article unfolds, I don't understand your admonition. Have you posted articles???? There is a limit on the amount of text allowed. There is a LINK to the full article. If you have some point to make about the article, make it! I am not the story Tainan.
Wow. It sounds like you’re years behind the times.
There have been dozens of articles posted here over the yrs, talking about the links between Iran & alQaeda, Iran & Taliban, Iran & Hamas(sunni), and Iran & other sunni peoples & organizations.
Yes, a strong Iran is good for U.S. interests, but not under this regime that’s been #1 state sponsor of terrorism for 30yrs.
Regime change in Iran is absolutely necessary for a whole host of reasons.
Very interesting. Thanks for posting.
STOP IT You are in violation of Freeper GWOT PC rule #1.
You shall never ever say or imply that Muslims are anything other that evil, and are incapable of ever doing anything good.
In the event that some poor benighted fool is taken in by the RINO NWO Open Borders Dhimmitude Propaganda and posts something Like this all true blue right thinking yankee doddle dandy American will, at a minimum scoff and/or say its too little too late.
He may be a good guy, but he is also considered an apostate.
I agree that regime change is desirable in Iran, but international relations are ultimately based on commonality of interests, not on who's our "friends" or who lives up to our standards of national morality. There's a strong element of Salafist power who has declared both Shiite Iran and the USA as deadly enemies. It is therefore common sense that Iran and the US both at least pull the punches they throw at each other.
“I agree that there’s al-Qarda in Iran, but as enemies of the Iranian regime.”
The regime offers protection, safe passage & cooperation to alQaeda and has for years - it’s no secret. In fact, they allowed safe passage thru Iran for several of the 9/11 terrorists. (though their association with alqaeda goes back before 2001)
The situation in Baluchistan is religious, tribal & territorial & has been going on for many decades and is a separate issue.
” international relations are ultimately based on commonality of interests, not on who’s our “friends” or who lives up to our standards of national morality. There’s a strong element of Salafist power who has declared both Shiite Iran and the USA as deadly enemies.”
You seem to not understand that the IRI is the #1 State sponsor of terrorism in the world.
If they kept all their problems within their own country, it would be a different story. To the IRI, it goes beyond sunni vs shia....anyone who is not Khomeinist is the enemy, though they use whoever they can along the way to achieve their ends.
I doubt very much that you’re aware of the annual terrorist ‘conference’ held in Iran. They may invite members from 30 different terrorist organizations worldwide for a week or 2 of meetings and training and comparing notes, so to speak. (these are not just muslim groups - some are from S. America)
Your fear & loathing of Salafists is justified, but that’s a separate issue from from the IRI. There can be no international relations with the IRI. When Iran becomes Iran again -after it brings down this regime- then we can have international relations and cooperation against the Salafists and others in that part of the world.
He should be exiled the the sharia paradise of his choice.
This was written by M. Ledeen in 2004:
“In order to conceal their activities from us, the Iranians have deployed several deceptive myths. The two most effective are “al Qaeda” and “Zarqawi.”
“ I had read German and Italian court documents that proved Zarqawi, operating from Tehran, had organized a European terrorist network. “
“This was the period when, according to our intelligence analysts, Zarqawi became a major player in al Qaeda.”
“It follows that the Iranians were involved in the marriage between al Qaeda and Zarqawi. To believe otherwise, you’d have to believe that Zarqawi and top al Qaeda officials were operating freely and independently of the Iranian regime. I don’t think any serious person would buy that one.
But the notion that radical Sunni terrorists like Zarqawi and bin Laden and Zawahiri were working hand in glove with the radical Shiite regime in Tehran was an impossible hypothesis for most of our analysts, who believed that strategic cooperation between Sunnis and Shiites was not possible (even though, for example, the Sunnis of Arafat’s Fatah-trained Khomeni’s Shiites the embryonic Revolutionary Guards in the Bekaa Valley as early as 1972.”
Steve Emerson noted a relationship between alqaeda (bin Laden) and Iran back in 1998. He gave testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee back then on terrorists/ terrorism within & coming out of Iran.
ANother Michael Ledeen piece from Fe. 2004, noting the connection between Zarqawi/Tehran (this was after the Madrid bombings)
“As memories are short, let’s review the bidding on Zarqawi. I first wrote about him here on December 12, 2002, when I came across an article in the German newspaper Die Zeit. That article cited court documents drawn from the depositions of a Palestinian terrorist who was cooperating with German authorities. The terrorist revealed that Zarqawi wore several hats: He was a top officer of al Qaeda, and the leader of a terrorist group known as al Tawhid, and he lived and worked in Tehran. He noted that Zarqawi was a key figure in the “reorganized al Qaeda” (reorganized after the debacle in Afghanistan) and was “one of the major coordinators of Iranian-sponsored terrorism in Europe.”
Al Qaeda’s Iranian connection led German investigators to another important discovery: Al Qaeda and Hezbollah arguably the world’s most dangerous terrorist organizations were working hand in glove. Die Zeit said that German intelligence had become aware of meetings between Osama bin Laden and Hezbollah’s chief of operations, Imad Mughniyah.
A few months after I wrote that article, documents surfaced in Italian court cases that showed Zarqawi’s involvement in terrorist networks in Milan and other northern Italian cities. And just last week, the Corriere della Sera reported that Zarqawi’s name had surfaced in recent investigations into al Qaeda’s efforts to recruit radical Muslims in Italy for guerrilla and suicide attacks in Iraq. And, like the German documents, the Italian evidence led straight back to Tehran, whence Zarqawi had issued orders to his agents in Italy.”
I wonder just how long this OBL hunt leader sat on his location - just in time to pump up Hussein’s sagging numbers..
How many others is he sitting on?
The man has been desperate in his desire for a US-Iran war”
Actually, just the opposite. Ledeen is very much against our attacking Iran.
Anyway, the point is, alQaeda has been for yrs & is currently in Iran & working with Iranian regime. There is no question about it. You can find dozens of sources going back a dozen yrs.
BTW: You need to check your scorecard....Vali Nasr, is NOT one of the good guys and has been a source of bad information & bad advice (intentionally) for yrs, though Hillary seems to like him a lot.
I’m well aware of him...Nasr is a proponent of “regime-lite”. That’s why his conclusion & views are so different from Ledeen’s and others. He sang the praises of Khatami during his presidency, trying to convince the U.S. (indeed the West) that Khatami was a good guy & would be a force for change (again, regime-lite, not the end of the regime).
Unfortunately, many bought into it, until some finally realized that Khatami like all of the IRI’s presidents, was just a puppet of Khamenei’s.
But Nasr was suceessful in fooling important people who counted, and still does.
Sorry to butt in, but Ledeen was also supporting Moussavi and Karoubi (aka ‘regime-lite’) post-elections & throughout the 2009 protests in Iran. Moussavi & Karoubi are no different to Khatami. Frankly, Ledeen’s support at the time totally surprised me.
Actually, I’d say ‘regime-lite’ in Islamic Iran equates with ‘islam-lite’ and islam-lite gave us ‘radical-islam’ aka Khomeini.
‘Course many of those who supported islam and Khomeini’s leadership in ‘79, now claim they didn’t know what Khomeini had in mind, or the revolution was hijacked! When people gather on rooftops and shout “allah akbar, death to the Shah”, it should be obvious that the same would support an Islamic gov’t. And, a few others who are either idealists, or simply follow like sheep, hope it’ll give them ‘democracy’ & all the good stuff, which apparently the late-Shah denied them!
Are you familiar with Vali Nasr?
I know you’re not a fan of Ledeen’s, but trying to equate Nasr & Ledeen is absurd.
Didn’t mention Nasr at all, wasn’t trying to equate Ledeen w/ Nasr.
I was saying that Ledeen also supported reformists such as Karoubi & Moussavi, who are just like Khatami.
Yes, I am familiar w/ Vali Nasr & his stance.
Btw, being a fan or not doesn’t come into it at all.
It is a Fact that Ledeen was supporting Moussavi & Karoubi.
“I wonder just how long this OBL hunt leader sat on his location - just in time to pump up Husseins sagging numbers..
How many others is he sitting on?”
Hi. I live on a planet called Earth. What is the name of your planet?
We have one moon. Do you have any? If so how many?
Our sky is blue. What is the color of your sky?
