Santorum Pounds Romney As He Opens Wisconsin Campaign

By Michael Finnegan March 24, 2012 (snip)

Wisconsin's April 3 contest offers Santorum a chance to break the pattern set by Romney and his allies in Michigan, Ohio and Illinois. In each state, they buried Santorum's insurgent campaign with an onslaught of attack ads. The Romney machinery is already fully engaged in Wisconsin, airing ads from Milwaukee and Green Bay on Lake Michigan to La Crosse on the upper Mississippi River.

So Santorum, far outspent once again, opened his latest campaign for a big prize in the Midwest with a scathing verbal assault on Romney. The former Pennsylvania senator also vowed solidarity with Wisconsin's embattled Republican governor, Scott Walker, the target of a recall drive sparked by his high-drama dispute with public-employee unions.

"It's great to be here in the center of the political wars, here in Wisconsin," Santorum told hundreds of conservatives at a Milwaukee gathering of the Americans for Prosperity Foundation.

Santorum dismissed Romney as a "financier from Wall Street" and reminded the crowd twice that he -– unlike the well-to-do former Massachusetts governor -- "grew up in a steel town" in western Pennsylvania. Republicans, Santorum said, want a nominee "who identifies with them."

Santorum also used President Obama as a foil to establish his own cultural affinity with Wisconsin Republicans. He recalled the 2008 dustup when Obama told campaign donors in San Francisco that small-town Americans embittered by job losses cling to religion and guns out of their frustrations.

"You're darn right we cling to our guns and our Bibles, because we believe in those things," Santorum said. A roar of applause filled the room.

Santorum's main focus, though, was Romney's conservative credentials, which he portrayed as bogus. The latest evidence o

Keep in mind when you read LA Times campaign stories that Michael Finnegan is a liberal homo.

Nice to know. LATimes and NYTimes are both infested with liberal homos no different from the SF Chronicle.

I read somewhere earlier today that Romney is saying that Republicans should be doing more to help the homosexuals. I’ll see if I can find it and link it...

Say what? If they’re together, they are double income no kids, mostly, and do fine for themselves. If they are single and looking, they seem apparently to be doing fine without help too. They have every right of inheritance, visitation, partnership. What help do gays need? And why does Romney feel that need to help them?

"the gay community needs more support from the Republican Party"

What he said is above. There's a nice big thread on FR that's long but only a few hours old!!!

Santorum and Romney are beating on each other while Gingrich is attacking Obama.

Obama is concerned with Gingrich’s ideas and positions getting public support, all the while literally ignoring Romney and Santorum as he goes after Gingrich unsuccessfully. Obama has looked assinine trying to argue against Gingrich’s positions.

Santorum and Romney are burning bridges and the two camps are creating such a poisonous atmosphere, in the end, they may be unable to come to a compromise at the convention.

Gingrich has no reason - none at all - to leave the race.

Should be an interesting extravaganza!

And fudgepackers who live together only have to spend half as much on clothes as normal couples do.

Gingrich is having a ball of a time on dough supplied by his sugar-daddy Adelson. He’s checking out cherry blossoms in Washington DC, siphoning off 16% of the vote in La and getting zero delegates, he appears on FoxNews and says some of the dumbest things and people still think he’s the smartest of the candidates. Not Obama, not Axelrod, not Romney, and not Santorum, and not more than 10%-15% of the voters are paying any attention to him. Adelson whose casino ventures is the subject of a federal investigation hates Santorum for his social views and he’s using Gingrich as foil to derail Santorum who is the only real threat if any to Romney.

LOL!

It doesn’t matter how desperate an Obot like you is, in the end it matters who is chosen at the convention in August.

Your FEAR of Gingrich is so palpable...pity!

Santorum and Romney are destroying each other. Their supporters are insistent - they will never vote for the other guy! As I said, they’re burning bridges necessary to create a run against Obama this fall, and the two sides will have to come together OR there will be a compromise candidate.

The only candidate who is taking the Republican war to the opposition is Gingrich. Obama knows who his real opponent is this fall, and it is neither Santorum nor Romney.

Then what is slick rick's reason for spending tons of money on negative against Newt, the Conservative PATRIOT? Either you've been duped or your candidate is one clueless dude.

Unfortunately, many of us don’t think that even Gingrich himself imbibes the kool-aid he has dished out anymore. He’s being propped up by Adelson and is having a whale of time on his dime. Santorum ignored him in La, polled a record breaking near 50% of the vote, something that Gingrich couldn’t pull in his own home state of Ga and was routed in each and every nearby southern state. Internal polling reveals that even some of how own die-hard followers crossed over to the Santorum column. No, he’s serious only in the minds of a few remaining holdouts. No small wonder that while on the ballot in IL, he’s taking in the cherry blossoms in DC. The guy is smart, now who would quarrel with that?

Too bad he didn't open with a scathing verbal assault on Obama. If he had, then some people besides the true believers might actually consider him.
