Santorum will win Louisiana primary, CBS News projects

Rick Santorum will win the Louisiana primary Saturday, CBS News projects. The victory is fresh evidence of the weakness of front-runner Mitt Romney, who is nonetheless increasingly likely to be the Republican who takes on President Obama in November.

According to exit polls, Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator and social conservative, did well among evangelicals, Catholics and those who identify themselves as "very conservative."

With 16 of 4,267 precincts reporting, Santorum had about 40 percent of the vote, while second place Romney had 31 percent. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was a distant third with 21 percent and Texas Rep. Ron Paul had just 5 percent of the counted vote.

Santorum also did well among those who consider the economy the most important issue of the election. Among those voters, Santorum had 44 percent support, compared to 33 percent support for Romney, according to CBS News exit polls. The economy was considered the top factor among Republican voters in Louisiana Saturday.

Coincidentally, Romney gets over the 25% threshold so he gets a percentage of Santorum’s delegate? He’s at 26% with 75% reporting in?!

Of course! What else would you expect from the GOP-E?!

This stuff makes me sick!

Illinois - Does not matter a lick. Obama or the devil would win there in November anyway. In picking a Rep candidate we should base our selection on who can best win the states that get the electoral college vote and forget states like Illinois, California, new York, etc that have no hope of being a Rep state .

Newt Gingrich supporters are hardly Mitt Romney supporters.

Oh yeah? Check this thread out. It blew my mind as well. All types of Milt soft selling going on from the Newt faithful.

You may not know with your fresh sign on, but most of the people selling Milt here are Newt enthusiasts. Very odd.

Yawn

Sweater vest foot in his mouth pro wrestler lawyer megalomaniac idiot man has no path to 1144 before the convention.

So looks like this win is pointless, and we’ll see what happens in Tampa.

Don’t let that stop you from getting all hot and bothered over nothing though.

No. Loiusiana does not have a winner-take-all provision. They do proportional delegates for every candidate who gets over 25%.

(Worse Loiusiana doesn’t actually bind delegates, and the primary only “morally obligates” a small number of delegates, with the rest done at some meeting in June).

It’s pretty obvious at this point that both Gingrich and the lawyer who voted against right to work have to stay in to keep the mormon bishop from buying the nomination.

So it would probably be a good idea to refrain from attacking Gingrich supporters and calling for him to drop out, it’s a pretty counterproductive thing to do.

Your a smart cookie, aren’t you? Through the magic of being able to check past posts, show me where I ever said Newt should drop out. If you are an honest person you will reply with an apology and we can go our separate ways Rome.

"Of course! What else would you expect from the GOP-E?!"

Yeah, like the GOPe is is smart enough to have figured this whole scenario out back in 2010.

This delegate allocation plan will help those whoe establish momentum and, alternatively, help those who are nipping at the heels of the leader if nobody is dominant.

And Toomey showed his stripes. They are ALL, including Newt, false conservatives. Oh some are more RINO than others but NONE are conservative. Go to a deadlocked convention. Vote only down ticket if we must. No more GOPe, No more RINO, NONE!

But, but, He’s so good at telling us how happy the cherry trees are in Washington DC, and how nice the elephants are at the Zoos instead of being busy on the campaign trail.

Hey Brohime. I had the time to refill the glass with delicious Balvenie Double Wood single malt down in my bar, smoke a cigarette, play with two of our nit wit cats with the laser beam and reply to a couple of mails here. I have not got a response from your accusation. Just shameful. You must have found me posting someone about telling Newt to get out of this thing by now.

I love the media... oh.. poor Mitt. he can’t win all the states so he stands no chance against Obama.

I don’t love Mitt... but I love Mitt far more than a person who doesn’t even deserve to be President under any circumstances.

If Mitt happens to be the only chance I have against Obama.. can Mitt really be any worse than him? Of course not.

Maybe you can help out a poor fool like myself. What does Mitt bring to the table that make you want to vote for him? I would love some specifics.
