The death almost a month ago of 17-year old Trayvon Martin at the hands of appointed neighborhood watch leader George Zimmerman has become a cause célèbre that has even drawn the notice of our President, who notes that if he had a son he would probably look like Trayvon. I’m seeing some defending Zimmerman, and most demanding his head on a platter, and a whole lot of people who don’t understand how the justice system is geared to approach these things. As I’ve said earlier in this blog, in answer to reader query, we don’t know enough about what happened to rush to judgment yet, whether that judgment is justified self-defense, murder, or manslaughter. The police have made it clear that there is evidence that has not yet been made public, and may not be put forth until the Grand Jury examines the case next month. Some issues: The autopsy results, including toxicology screen, have not yet been released. If it turns out that the young man who died was fueled by drugs known to cause violent behavior, could that change our perceptions? That knowledge is not yet in our hands. (Reportedly, Zimmerman was not tested, and police indicate that he showed no signs of drug or alcohol impairment.) My advice to YOU if YOU’RE ever involved in a shooting: request to be taken to a hospital to have a blood sample and toxicology screen taken. A “negative for everything” result will prevent false allegations later that you were drunk or drugged-up when you pulled the trigger.

Well, The big divide between black leaders and white is that white leaders want for all facts to come in before passing judgement. If the guy is guilty,then we want his head on a spike.
Blacks want immediate justice. No investigations,no grand juries, no nothing.
If the perp was black and the vic was white, then its because of years of whites oppressing blacks. And if the vic was Jewish then its because the Jews are evil bloodsuckers and most likely deserved it.
Yes, that's right though a lot of damage was done earlier when they said Zimmerman chased after the guy. People said there was an argument before the shooting between the 2. I want to wait until I know more facts. It should be a local law enforcement matter. Imo.

There you go. I’m not getting any responses so I’m spreading this around. According to the 7-11 store finder, the nearest 7-11 to the Retreat at Twin Lakes, reported to be the scene of the incident, is over 2 miles away. There is a local convenience store about 1.5 miles away, so I would like to know where exactly the young lad went. If we’re going to have a civil war over this, maybe somebody could interview a store clerk, know what I mean?

The kid in the pics doesn't even look like Martin and he attends Myers Middle School. Martin was in High School.
Martin was from Miami.

Well, at this point, if I was Zimmerman, I would sue the Unites States, every bit of media in it, Glenn beck, Sean Hannity and, just guessing here, about 90-95% of its inhabitants for being a bunch of race-baiting racist a$$holes.

The kid was unarmed. He was not attacking Zimmerman or threatening his property. Zimmerman was a hot dog cop-wannabe who never should have had a firearm.
I support the Second Amendment and the right to carry and the castle doctrine, but defending Zimmerman is wrong. Just let it play out in the courts, let justice proceed and STOP DEFENDING THIS GUY. He’s a threat to US and the Second Amendment through his apparently irresponsible behavior.

There was no statement about trespassing. He was walking home after visiting a relative. Even if he was walking through a “closed community”, shooting an unarmed person who is not committing a serious crime is an irresponsible action which threatens MY Second Amendment rights.

Thank you. That is what I have been saying all along. We have only gotten one side and things just don't add up.
We don't need the LSM as judge and jury. Sure it could be murder and if that is proven beyond a doubt, then Zimmerman should be punished approately.
So many things just don't make any sense at all. I do live near Sanford and yes the Sanford police department may not be the best, but I really don't think they would cover up a shooting just because the victim was black. Also the friend of the victim said he sent Travon out for the skittles and did not find out until the next day he was dead. That makes no sense at all. Many more things that we just don't know. One TV station here has it in for the Sanford Policed department over an incident several months ago with the old police chief. They played this up from the beginning.
All I want is to get the complete facts in a court of law so that so called witnesses will be under oath.
Now that REV AL & chief Race batter Jessie have gotten involved there is no way they will accept anything but Zimmerman in jail for life.
We may never know the truth. Last night here on the local news they stated that the police wanted to charge Zimmerman but the prosecutors office said they didn't have enough evidence. The police won't criticize the DA and that makes sense they have to work together all the time.
Yeah I can’t believe that about Santorum, what he said. On the other hand I can being that his IQ seems to have dropped about 80 points this past week. Amazing how someone I thought was smart and conservative can turn into Joseph Biden seemingly overnight.
As has been reported elsewhere, Zimmerman is no stranger to the court system.

Trayvon Martin was reported to be an A/B student and had no record.
He did not stop following Trayvon when requested to do so. Zimmerman was following Trayvon in his truck. Zimmerman with a gun and a history of an overabundance of 911 calls. Zimmerman seems to have been a train wreck waiting to happen.
A grown man (with a gun) following a 17 year old in a pickup truck. Who would not be spooked? We just do not know enough to make any judgments about what happened that night Let the facts come out.

This is a man bites dog case. Thousands of blacks and Hispanics shoot each other and white people every year, and there’s nary a charge of racism. White people killing black people is so rare that when a black kid is shot by someone who they have made sure we know is a “white Hispanic”, it gets headlines, and they try to make the case that it’s racist.

The key legal question is did Zimmerman’s actions set off a key of events that lead to Martin’s death. This is where the jury, DA and defense lawyer must fight over. When Zimmerman decided to follow Martin after he reported it to 911, he entered the legal hot zone. The jury must determine if Zimmerman broke the chain of events when he shot Martin. Example, Zimmerman claims he was returning to his SUV when Martin attacked him. That breaks the chain of events for Zimmerman and shifts the responsibility on Martin for his death. This also depends on what was said before Zimmerman headed for his SUV. Example if he told Martin that the cops were coming and he hopes they haul is nigger ass to jail and heads back to his SUV and Martin is infuriated by the insult and attacks, Martin has not broken the chain of events. If Zimmerman on the other hand told Martin the cops are coming and he is letting them handle the situation and he is going to his SUV to wait. He has broken the chain of events that lead to Martin’s death. If Martin is infuriated and attacks, then he has started a chain of events that will lead to his death. Zimmerman would no longer be responsible. This is going to be another Rodney King trial. A good defense lawyer will make sure Zimmerman jury will have a strong contingent of white/Hispanics to counter the black members. If the local DA cannot prosecute due to lack of evidence, a good defense lawyer has a very good chance of getting one jury member to vote not guilty and Zimmerman walks free. Problem the blacks will head to the streets and riot. If you are hispanic or white commuting in your car pray you are not in the wrong neighborhood at that moment.
Zimmerman was on his phone when attacked.
Yea it was stupid to follow a suspect but he did. He then lost the suspect and was heading back to his vehicle. He was confronted and attacked. When he was on the ground getting his butt kicked he drew his weapon and fired once firing the fatal shot.
Zimmerman is Hispanic. He has black family members. He and his wife were in a big brother program to two black children.
Media is using this to stir up black voters for the presidential race. They need a motivated base and huge turn out. This is an excuse for $harpton to raise money as well.
If he was never convicted (?) then does the domestic abuse charge prevent him from carrying? Too many issues for anybody that wasn’t there to decide. Suppose we’ll have to wait and see if the grand jury indicts or not. Either way, this guy has a price on his head now even if he was in the right. I am no different from anyone else, I have gut reactions based on nothing but emotions. But I recognize them for what they are and look for facts.
Supporters of both Traynor and Zimmerman have jumped in gun in my opinion. This is no longer what happened that night It is about race. That is a shame because both of them deserve to have the truth be told.
The fires are being stoked by Al Sharpton and Barrack Obama.
Zimmerman’s call to the SPD was made at 19:11:12. That’s 7:11pm for us civilans.
