Letter comes as pope visits Mexico, Cuba Bishops cite state laws creating local divisions U.S. bishops to file brief against Arizona law

WASHINGTON—Congressional leaders should “build consensus” toward reform of the nation’s immigration laws, said Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), and Archbishop José Gomez of Los Angeles, chairman of the USCCB’s Committee on Migration, in a March 22 letter.

“Passage of immigration reform is more important now than ever, as state laws and local enforcement initiatives are filling the policy vacuum left by Congress,” the bishops wrote in a letter to House Speaker John Boehner, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and the Minority Leaders of both chambers. “This has created a patchwork of laws and policies throughout the country which has led to discord in our communities.”

Cardinal Dolan and Archbishop Gomez expressed concern over the impact that state and local initiatives are having on immigrant families, which become separated because of these policies.

“Children are often the innocent victims of these policies, which leave them without parents and with less opportunity to live a full and productive life in their home country, the United States.”

The letter came on the eve of Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Mexico. Around 60 percent of undocumented immigrants in the United States are of Mexican origin.

The letter also indicated that the USCCB will soon file an amicus brief supporting the “full authority” of the federal government to “enact and implement” laws governing immigration.

Cardinal Dolan and Archbishop Gomez encouraged the leaders to address immigration reform as “soon as possible,” as new State laws will continue to “tear at the social fabric of our nation, until it is torn beyond repair.”

“Immigration Reform”=Amnesty and Open Borders.

Hispanics vote pro-abortion.

Therefore: What Gomez and Dolan are promoting is MORE pro-aborts in public office, and MORE persecution of the Catholic Church through fascist laws like Obamacare.

Here is the “consensus”:

Quit cheating the law abiding, legal immigrants out of a living wage.

Get in line and apply for legal immigration.

Tell Obama to take all of his EPA, HHS, and Dept. of Education paperpushers and assign them to streamline the LEGAL IMMIGRATION process.

I just attended a rally against Obama’s abotion mandates in New York City. The Cardinal of New york City did not attend.I now feel it is a 75% chance that Cardinal Dolan will cave on this issue. At the Rally we surmised that Cardinal Dolan would “support”the rally by talking about capital punishment. We were close.

Sadly, these bishops are being used as tools.

They try perfidiously to worm their way even into professedly Catholic and religious organizations. Again, without receding an inch from their subversive principles, they invite Catholics to collaborate with them in the realm of so-called humanitarianism and charity; and at times even make proposals that are in perfect harmony with the Christian spirit and the doctrine of the Church.

The separation problem is solved if the illegals take their “anchor babies” with them. No one is forcing them to be separated.

What wouldn Jesus say?

Dolan is going to cave on the contraceptive/abortifacient mandate.

He's just putting on a show for a little while.

Obama is trying to destroy the Catholic church, and THIS is what the Bishops are worried about....

We’ve already reached the consensus that we don’t want immigration reform. These bishops just happen not to like that.

I certainly agree that fussing over these issues of prudential judgment deplete the bishops of their moral authority, so that this is a horribly tragic and idiotic move on the part of the bishops.

But it’s hardly been Dolan’s top focus. He has championed the battle against Obamacare like no other church leader in America.

Yes indeed. Pretty amazing given all the outcry from the Bishops over the HHS mandate. They obviously can't bring themselves to use the word "illegal" and "immigrant" in the same sentence.

Where are the similar calls for the Mexican government to promote justice and opportunity at home so that the desperate poor don't feel compelled to enter the U.S. illegally? Or similar calls for changes in the way Mexico handles those who reside there illegally?

Between this and the continued coddling of CINO politicians it's pretty clear that the Bishops remain as politically tone deaf as ever.

Unfortunately, it’s not mere tone-deafness. They’re not elected; they’re not running for re-election. They know very plainly that not only do their “constituents” oppose their position, but that the more faithful their constituents are, the more likely they are to be in opposition.

““Passage of immigration reform is more important now than ever,”

Nah, why bother, they won’t need an amnesty law, they’ll just do it it like this....

Today....
U.S. to grant protected status to Syrians
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/story/2012-03-23/US-Syria/53739856/1?csp=24&kjnd=fjGlzkviqfQmuptHySAGzXf700eqwDrh2aoa70M6u0bd2l%2BbHfCbQlPLBS%2FcXNmX-57fabc95-7668-414e-8361-e4c871ee7ea7_%2B%2FRuLa3QFQ2v6ojauml32QO5ZaoDcAgzqXmvwd4AsgKgPWs4KmPxtgHX2%2FrFQJyO

We already did the same with Haitians, Central Americans from a flood, and just watch, Mexicans and all points south are going to get it on a’humanitarian’ basis because their home is a hell hole. With Hezbollah having a foot hold down there, Mexicans will likely be the least of our problems, other than the fact that Mexicans will LARGELY side with any enemy, they do that all the time at the UN.

Welcome to the the US of A...just an international freeway!
