Skip to comments.Obama: “If I Had A Son He'd Look Like Trayvon”

President Barack Obama weighed in on the "tragedy" of Trayvon Martin's death last week, saying it is "absolutely imperative" that all levels of government investigate "every aspect" of how the unarmed boy was shot.
"I can only imagine what these parents are going through," Obama said, adding "When I think about this boy I think about my own kids."
"I am glad that not only is the Justice Department is looking into this, but the Governor of the State of Florida has put together a task force [to investigate the case]," Obama said. Obama carefully avoided any discussion of George Zimmerman, the man who shot Martin, and has controversially avoided arrest under Florida's "Stand Your Ground" self-defense laws.
"My main message is to the parents: If I had a son he'd look like Trayvon. I think they are right to expect that all of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves."
Apparently Zimmerman called in a 911 report of a suspicous person and then followed the kid in his car. Zimmerman got out of his car and chased the kid, which is one definition of initiating the confrontation. There doesn’t seem to be any evidence that prior to the confrontation the kid was doing anything worse than being a negro walking through Mr. Zimmerman’s neighborhood.
Again, I agree, we don’t have all the facts. Regardless of the facts in this particular case, Obama’s comments are creepy and opportunistic.
Local TV interview with witness to Treyvon Martin shooting — is there more to the story??
Øbama is pathetic
CLASS WARFARE—DIVISION. IT IS HIS MANTRA!!!!!!
That twitterer sure nailed it.
I’ll take “Intentional” for a 1000 Alex.
I agree 100% that people ought to stop blathering. I withhold judgment about the events in the case, but I stand by comments about President Obama. His comments are opportunistic and creepy.
UH! Obama??....not with Michelle he wouldn’t, or are you talking about with another woman? Then maybe.....
The police did an investigation and didn’t bring charges against this guy. If he is prosecuted, does anyone think the defense cannot come up with reasonable doubt - after the police did. It’s not as if they don’t know who did the shooting.
How can they convict this guy, but not Casey Anthony. I don’t see it.
“saying it is “absolutely imperative” that all levels of government investigate “every aspect” of how the unarmed boy was shot.”
Why? Are all levels of government incompetent up until a certain point? This is further proof that he is completely disconnected from the proper role of government.
“When I think about this boy I think about my own kids.”
What happened to keeping politicians’ kids untouchable.
Good thing he changed his name!!!!!!
Where is Zimmerman going to be able to get a fair trial? Guantanamo? I'd say he already has grounds for appeal.
You would think the Constitutional Law Lecturer of the US would remind the citizenry about "innocent until proven guilty."
He acts so UNpresidential weighing in and trying to capitalize on every single news item. It diminishes the office and makes him look silly.
We are constantly admonished NOT to bring the kids into our discussions of Obama.
Yet HE does it ALL the time.
Lookie what we have here.

“has controversially avoided arrest”
Don’t wall avoid arrest daily? This line makes it clear that this is an article with an agenda. I am with holding jusdgement about Zimmerman, at least until I get the facts. However, I am judging the media with every article!
