Santorum Suggests Obama Preferable to "Etch-A-Sketch" Romney.

Rick Santorum's latest attempt to use a Mitt Romney aide's "Etch-A-Sketch" remark against the Republican front-runner instead gave his rival a chance to fire back on Thursday, after Santorum seemed to say he'd rather see President Obama reelected than send Romney to the White House.

Speaking at an event in Texas, Santorum again made the case that Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom's comments Wednesday on CNN about a "reset" of the campaign if Romney clinched the nomination showed the former Massachusetts governor's efforts to appeal to conservatives were insincere.

"You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who's just going to be a little different than the person in there," Santorum told a crowd in San Antonio, according to NBC News. "If you're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch-A-Sketch candidate of the future."

If that be more than taken from context, Santorum won’t even be a footnote at the convention.
If he only has the bitter dregs of his cup may he choke on them.

I’m sick of the hypocrisy. Reading Santorum’s quote, it’s clear what the point was: There is NO difference between Romney and Obama, and that when faced with the choice of a Socialist/Marxist and Obama-lite, people will always choose the real thing everytime.

MANY people here have said the exact same thing on numerous occasions that Romney is not an acceptable alternative to Obama. And that is what Santorum is essentially saying here. And yet, the FR attacks on Rick continue to make him look like the quote is something bad, when it is in fact the truth.

FUMR! NO ROMNEY, NO WAY!

That is way over the top, even given Mitt’s obvious shortcomings.

So what’s going to take over from the GOP-E? What’s going to be the New GOP?

“There’s no difference between THOSE comments and what Rick state.”

LMAO @ you....

There is a very BIG difference between regular FReepers and your Ricky, FReepers are not running for president!!

I will say this though, there are a good many FReepers that would make far better presidents than Romney or Saintorum.

This is what happens to the serious man without a plan. The moral vanity brigade is running off the rails.

“Go Newt!”

Oh, Santorum's got a plan - The "Anything That's Good for Rick" plan. He never deviates.

GO BACK TO NEWT AND STAY THERE!!!

I would rather have a leader with allegiance to the LDS than the Islamic revolution, but if that is any kind of issue for you then the Papist Santorum should have you frightened to death.

“So your argument is to hold our noses and vote for another Liberal Elitist RINO as the alternative?”

No my argument is I’m going to do it, and you can stay home if you want to.

“I did that with Dole and McCain never again!!!!!”

Really? Not me. I could never vote for John McCain! Talk about a RINO! No way. I can’t believe you actually fell for John McCain. I’m sorry you did that. You must feel really dirty. Just kidding. But not about McCain. I never voted for him and never would.

“Nothing and I mean Nothing will change with Romney just look at his tenure as Governor of Mass.”

You could be right. But would Obama be better than that? Not likely.

“Well this Conservative and many others will just say no.”

Ok, say no.

“The country for the most part is lost and the Economic Debacle that is coming can happen on Obama’s watch rather than a Republican’s.”

At least you won’t be able to be blamed when the Country goes to hell. You tell ‘em.

“Between Entitlements along with the Debt and Deficit we are heading Lightspeed into a mountain so let Obama have all the credit.”

Even if it does happen under Obama’s watch I don’t think he’ll get all the credit for it. The Left has the Media on it’s side so don’t hold your breath on that one.

I hate to inform you people, but Santorum has a point.

If you elect a flaming liberal Republican, he WILL be able to get a lot of Establishment Republicans to support his agenda (which will not differ much from Obama). That is PRECISELY why we have to deal with the EPA, OSHA, crazy ‘civil rights’ laws, the Wheelchair Law, and nearly a blanket Amnesty. They were ALL signed in by liberal Republicans (Nixon, and both Bushes)

The Dems don’t even try that crap when they run things (other than the healthcare law, but that’s already on the books and only an IDIOT would believe that Romney will fight it). The Dems would rather let the Republicans step in the crap, rather than take the heat for it themselves.

I’ve wanted Newt since 2008 anyway, but wow...I just lost any respect I ever had for Santorum.

I never had any.

Goodness me, Santorum is NOT a Christian Socialist, not even close.

He was one of the more conservative senators in the Senate on multiple fronts. But not a pure free markets guy.
He’s more like a Pat Buchanan lite.

livius, I've been thinking long and hard tonight, along the same lines.

This election stinks. Romney and Santorum both act like they're applying for the "big desk job" when we need a field general!

I think it's time the tea party started kicking some elephant butt.

I disagree....but thats ok. I see no difference in Zero in Romney other than this. Romney’s tax plan....he defines the rich at $200k, while Zero does it at $250k. Other than that they are the same. Socialized healthcare, planned parenthood, liberal judges, cap&trade, gun control...the list goes on and on.

I can’t find one significant action as governor (not just words) where he is contrary to zero.

I don’t support people just because they have an R behind their name and the GOP losership tells me to. My vote is important enough to not be wasted on an empty political suit.

“Rick Santorum: “Sure, I can come up with something every bit as stupid as Eric Fehrnstrom. Let me think a minute ... I got it! ‘If Mitt’s the Republican nominee, then you might as well vote for Obama!’ How’s that?””

Bears repeating. Santorum is tripping all over his own tongue on a daily basis. Getting mighty sick of him, and used to like him a lot.

OMG, how I want Newt!

Santorum’s ‘scorched Earth policy’. 0bama will be more than happy to use Rick’s statement as fodder during his campaign. The GOP needs to get the word out that ambushing itself is 0bama’s pathway to four more years.

Don’t call him “my” Ricky. Although I like him as a candidate, I’d vote for whoever wins the nomination, Gingrich included.

BTW, there is NO difference. ANYONE who thinks that allowing Obama to win over ANY Republican candidate is a loser. Don’t care who the candidate is. If Romney or Rick loses to Obama via the Gingrich-or-else-crowd, the blood of our dead USA will be on their hands.
