I was standing in the checkout line yesterday at my local supermarket when I saw a very nude, very pregnant Jessica Simpson staring at me from the cover of the April issue of Elle magazine.
She should be ashamed of herself.
The 31-year-old songstress, actress and fashion designer is celebrating her impending motherhood for the whole world to see. But it is no cause for celebration when a baby is born out of wedlock even to a rich and famous mom like Simpson.
Thats not to suggest that Simpson should be punished with an Old Testament stoning (or be chastised according to Sharia law). And its absolutely not to suggest that the life of her soon-to-be-born baby daughter is anything but precious.
But Simpson knows, from her Southern Baptist upbringing, that its morally wrong to bring a baby into the world outside of marriage. Yet she is totally unrepentant, as evidenced by her all-too-brazen cover shoot.
The former gospel singer may tell herself that the fact she is engaged reportedly to her babys daddy makes her unwed motherhood okay. She may think that the fact she didnt abort her pre-born child makes her a GCB Good Christian Baby-maker.
Well, maybe so in the view of those who worship at the altar of moral relativism, but not in the eyes of her Creator. His word says, Marriage is honorable among all but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.
Simpson needs to acknowledge that, like it or not, she is a role model.
Millions of young women first fell in love with her when she co-starred with then-husband Nick Lachey on Newlyweds, an MTV reality show. They downloaded Simpsons three gold and two multi-platinum albums on their Ipods. They bought her hair and beauty products, her shoes and handbags. They look up to her.
And at least some of Simpsons girl fans will think that, if Jessica can proudly drop a baby out of wedlock, they, too, can make such a lifestyle choice.
Simpson will protest that she is not a role model; that she has never encouraged her impressionable fans to emulate her. But the once-wholesome Christian girl next door is no doubt familiar with the scripture that advises: For everyone to whom much is given, from him (or her) much will be required.
Thats not to condemn mom-to-be Simpson, but to pray that she has a moment of conviction. To hope that she recognizes how unseemly it is for her to so brazenly celebrate her unwed motherhood.
“Shame” presupposes the profession of some set of values that deprecates failure to achieve them and celebrates their attainment. No such values exist in Hollywood, so shame is a concept foreign to its citizens.
She should be ashamed because the cover picture of a naked pregnant movie start is such a cliche.
I think we need to see the evidence
I teach at a medical vocational school (for high school grads), and I can attest that almost 1/4 if not 1/2 of my students have had illegitimate children, and, more than likely, they're "engaged to a man who doesnt even love her enough to marry her.
Simpson had a fine husband whom she tossed out for no reason at all. Her life has been a sleazy mess ever since.
Not guilty!!
The best thing to do in today’s world, as a Christian, is to ignore and keep away from the immoral world of celebrity. Television, movies, and all that is associated with the cult of personality is anathema to the Christian and should be avoided. An occasional television program that edifies the viewer is fine, but the moral sewer that is glorified in today’s reality television and general programming does harm to the walk of the Christian in the world. Celebrities, despite their pandering to “values”, primarily worship themselves- they cannot help it. They are celebrities which means they are idolized by millions and are used to an entourage of people salivating at their heels. That kind of lifestyle , one that is egocentric to the extreme, is very damaging. My advice is to read books on the interesting lives of missionaries instead of worrying what immoral people like Jessica Simpson are doing.
My mother use to call women like this, SLUTS.
Yeah -- desperately trying to hold onto her fame now that everyone has moved on to the next cute young thing.
The writer sounds like a typical ‘busybody’ that needs to mind their own damn business. They’d be relieved to not carry around the burdens of worrying about what Jessica Simpson is doing....
Mine too and if she were alive I couldn’t argue with her except by citing the “all humans make mistakes” thingy.
She desperately wants to be accepted. She’ll do anything she can to keep her face in the limelight. I remember that John Mayer described her as “sexual napalm”. That pretty much sums up her motivation driven by the Daddy issues she got from her papa Joe.
TTIWWP..............
Yeah... Why not... ;-)
Of course she should be ashamed.
However, the concepts of shame and sin, once the bedrock of civilized Christianity, are no longer even considerations.
We can thank the tidal wave of nonjudgmental, moral equivalence wrought by the Leftist counterculture starting in the 1960s, for our current residence in an abject moral sewer.
I just don’t wanna waste the gas to drive to Wal-Mart..........
Call me old fashioned, but I don’t see the attractiveness of a nude pregnant woman. I tnink pregnant women in public should wear the clothes designed for them.
It’s a copy of Demi Moore’s Vanity Fair cover, done for publicity.
Driving to Wal-Mart should be a punishment for Class C Misdemeanors.

Leaving the link cold. I have no idea how sticky ABC would be about hotlinking an image.
Huh... Looks like John Rob’s auto-coding did it for me. Going to have to remember that...
Your ‘hot’ link worked....;^)

It shows up like it is supposed to here as I put paragraph breaks at the end of the proceeding paragraphs.
I knew the board code would auto-insert breaks in paragraphs, I didn't know it'd do linking too...
Kinda makes you wonder why it doesn't work for jpgs/gifs then...
Sounds like a Fluke to me.
I agree. She should remove it and repost the pics...
“My mother use to call women like this, SLUTS.”
Now we call ‘em “Slutes”.
“.. call me old fashioned, but I don’t see the attractiveness of a nude pregnant woman”.
You aren’t old fashioned. You have a sense of morality and decorum. Are pregnant women beautiful? Yes, of course. They are glowing and beautiful because they are carrying a life. Sexy? NO.
she should be ashamed for copyright infringement (Demi Moore posed for an almost identical cover twenty years ago)
Yeah, like Daisy Duke shorts. Good ol' traditional late 1970s values.
Yes, and that worked out so well!
hey, Daisy Duke was a Vestal Virgin compared to what we have running around today
Maybe next she’ll do a pole dance to The Star Spangled Banner.....
***My mother use to call women like this, SLUTS.***
And men called them “penny whores”. Plus a few other very vivid discriptions. Lust for them and despise them at the same time.
You ain't kiddin'. If you're a chick born after 1990, them shorts are like a bhurka to you.
It would be faster if we could upload pics like on Facebook, then we wouldn't have to link..........
I think the reason is simpler than that. She was raised by wealthy parents who spoiled her, and as such she never developed “common sense skills”. Thus she often comes across as either very ignorant or stupid.
I have met people like this before, and their level of naivete is appalling. At some point they are often confronted by something so far outside their experience that they are captivated by the idea. Often in a self destructive way.
One such was a girl raised by again wealthy parents in a small, isolated community. She was raised to her parents likes and dislikes, with very little exposure to the real world. But eventually she got out, in this case she attended a public high school. Her “mind was blown” by the different lives of others, especially those from very poor and troubled backgrounds.
When she left her home state to attend college, education was the last thing on her mind. Instead she had to learn about such people, to *know* their enigmatic, to her, reality.
One street-smart young man remarked that “she was on her way down”, and that, until she “hit bottom”, and either recovered or died, she was a hazard to herself and everyone around her. He was quite correct.
She went on a hard drinking, hobo tour of the West coast with another girl from a bad background. Eventually though, she came to her senses, and her curiosity satisfied, she went home. Nobody knew what happened to her after that.
So to try and apply a moral standard to such people is really operating at a much higher level than they are capable. Until they fail they cannot succeed. We can but hope that there is some “life redemption” for them, because until then there is little or no chance for spiritual redemption.
She is not naked in the picture. I saw it yesterday in the check out line as well.
Welcome to FR. You may want to reply to some posters, Som far, all you’ve done is post threads.
You should be ashamed for being a public busy-body.
John Adams, founding father and the nation’s second president, stated: “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion . . . Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” Was he a busybody?
Interesting that Papa Joe, who was a youth pastor in Abilene, Texas when Jessica was growing up, hasn’t had much to say about his eldest daughter’s abandonment of her faith life.

Kids of pastors were always the wildest ones in HS and college...and I know I am not the only one to observe this.
WOW!
I haven’t seen any empirical evidence to that effect, but there certainly is more than a little anecdotal evidence.

boy that kid is going to be well-fed!!!!
She named her daughter Maxwell. Maxwell is a boy’s name.
What would she have named a son? Sarah?
