ROSEAU, Dominica (AP) -- Two California men on a gay cruise of the Caribbean were arrested Wednesday in Dominica, where sex between two men is illegal.
Police Constable John George said police boarded the cruise ship and arrested the two men on suspicion of indecent exposure and "buggery," a term equivalent to sodomy on the island. He identified the men as John Robert Hart, 41, and Dennis Jay Mayer, 43, but did not provide their hometowns.
George said the men were seen having sex on the Celebrity Summit cruise ship by someone on the dock.
The two were later charged with indecent exposure and are scheduled to appear before a magistrate Thursday morning. If found guilty, they could be fined $370 each and face up to six months in jail.
The ship carrying about 2,000 passengers departed Puerto Rico on Saturday and arrived in Dominica on Wednesday. It departed for St. Barts without the men, who are being held in a cell at police headquarters in the capital of Roseau.
The cruise was organized by Atlantis Events, a Southern California company that specializes in gay travel.
President Rich Campbell, who is aboard the cruise, said in a phone interview earlier that he thought the two men would be released. He later said in an email that the company has organized many trips to Dominica and would "happily return

"I am very pleased that the police were called in and have arrested the people in question. I have warned about gay tourism and its implications for Dominica," said Rodney, who is a vocal critic of homosexuality and lesbianism."
I'm thinking I should move to a place like this.....
"love boat pirates"
Which means they could be seen by, like, everyone. EEEEEEEEWWWW!
wtf were they thinking? Ask ten gay people if having sex in public is something one should do in foreign countries and I bet nine say no..
That's like a travel agency that specializes in Jewish travel organizing vacations in Iran. I think maybe they should ask for a refund.
While this may be socially acceptable and even expected in San Francisco, I guess Dominica doesn’t like buggery.
AP wants us to think these guys were arrested because of their homosexuality - in fact they were arrested for public lewd behavior that is a crime the world over.
Hint to AP: If you want the world to stay out of everyone’s bedroom, then don’t make every venue your bedroom.
Homosexists used to claim they just wanted to be left alone; well, clearly that idea was abandoned and now they demand that we approve of every deviation and spectacle no matter how bizarre, destructive or pathological.
Dominica is a beautiful and largely undeveloped island. People go there to see the views, the tropical flora, and the wildlife, especially birds.
Maybe the travel agency thought the tourists could avoid public anal sex for a brief time. (Most people manage ...) After all, if they just wanted to bugger one another in public, they could have saved their money and stayed home.
Eight would say no, if my math is right!
Remind me to stay off that ship...
I bet when incarcerated they asked for the same jail cell and agreed to the six months sentence.
In many moose limb countries this is a stoning or beheading offense.
Course in Iran there are NO fags least that’s what their president says.
Awwwww come on...they were just hosing down the poop deck! (sorry)

I’ll bet there are not a lot of homosexual cruises to the middle east, especially Saudi Arabia.
The problem with a story like this is that you have no idea what happened. Not that I need the grisly details... But were these two engaging in activity they thought was private, but they happened to be seen through a window? Or were they out on the balcony as a deliberate provocation?
If they were being prudent and had a reasonable expectation of privacy, I would say that this is an over-reaction by the Dominican authorities. If they were being “in-your-face” about it, then they deserve to have the book thrown at them.
But you can’t tell, based on the information provided.
Oh, you’re bad... very very very bad.
I think I am going to go pound my head against the wall and see if I can get that post out of my brain.
GROSS!!!!! I need to go wash my eyeballs after reading that!
I agree, isn’t that what mall bathrooms were built for?
I do not understand why the queers... oh. never mind.
Sounds like possibly a deliberate act of defiance
Ha ha ha...I think I need a brain-scrub after posting it too.
“Yeoman Bosun, you have been charged with the highest crime of Buggery on the High Seas!”
“2 US men arrested on gay cruise in Caribbean “
2 US men arrested on SSAD cruise in Caribbean
Fixed the title to be more accurate “Same Sex Attraction Disorder” Gay is a stupid application of a word and so typical of liberal wordsmiths.
In Dominica if you want to bugger, you’d better do it on the hugger mugger.
They put two gay men in a Dominica jail for having sex.
For some that would be called “the guests of honor” have arrived.
You know, this makes me rethink my ‘Oktoberfest in Mecca’ business idea...
That is certainly possible. But you can't say for sure, based on the information we have at hand.
One reason why this information might not be available, of course, is because the media is too busy cheerleading, instead of reporting the news. They love a canned story, where there is a deliberate provocation, and they get to report on the government reaction, without every analysing why the government found it necessary to act in the first place.
A story like that can be written comfortably from the hotel bar, half in the bag, with no serious thought required.
I have no patience with this "put up job" type of protest. Back in the day, people courted arrest by the police, and owned up to their actions. To whine that they were innocent victims would have completely undermined the point of the protest. They were willing to bear the consequences in order to protest an unjust policy.
But this whining about how folks are just minding their own business and are being singled out for special punishment is just obnoxious. Especially when getting busted is what they wanted to happen from the git-go.
