Toulouse gunman Mohammed Merah shot dead

A gunman responsible for shooting seven people in separate attacks has been shot dead by police.

Mohammed Merah has been holed up in the Croix-Daurade district of the city for 32 hours in a dramatic siege situation.

French Interior Minister Claude Gueant said "[The police] had never seen anything like this. In the end Merah jumped out of a window continuing to shoot. He was found dead on the ground. We were able to remove him and the dangers he posed to the people of Toulouse".

I wonder if the French police wore cameras and filmed their assault to protect themselves against lawsuits. If they did record this execution, I, for one, would take great satisfaction in viewing Mohammed Murah's demise as a result of non-Muslim members of society taking him out.

I am also appreciating the fact that Murah was ultimately denied the media platform he clearly desired by NOT being taken alive.

Looking at a recent BBC article about Mohammed Merah,

And Merah's lawyer, Christian Etelin, told the AP news agency his client had been in jail in France from December 2007 to September 2009 for a mugging offence.

Mr Etelin said those experiences could have "provoked hate for the justice system" and "laid the groundwork from which he threw himself into this religious fanaticism".

However,

Afghan officials told the BBC he had been jailed in Kandahar for planting bombs in 2007, but escaped in a Taliban-led break-out in 2008.

At least, by jumping out the window in a hail of bullets, he saved the world from a media frenzy and along, drawn-out trial.
