Top Romney adviser: Mitt will erase his conservative positions once he’s the nominee
WaPo ^ | 032112 | Greg Sargent

Think Progress flags an amazing exchange on CNN, in which Eric Fehrnstrom, a top adviser to Mitt Romney, seems to confirm that the conservative positions Romney has been forced to take during the primary won’t be a big deal because he can simply erase them once he becomes the GOP nominee:

HOST: Is there a concern that Santorum and Gingrich might force the governor to tack so far to the right it would hurt him with moderate voters in the general election?

FEHRNSTROM: Well, I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It’s almost like an Etch A Sketch. You can kind of shake it up and restart all over again.

There you have it. Dems, predictably, are pouncing on the remark, arguing that it validates their message that Romney has no core and will say or do anything to get elected.

yes, but the etch-a-sketch comment pulled it all together into an easily digestible sound bite for the ignorant masses.

Well, we knew it and now we have it from one of Romney’s people. That comment will go a long way to bringing Romney down and cut down his votes from Republicans and Independents. That Etch-A-Sketch isn’t going away.

Maybe, just maybe, more primary votes go to Newt and Santorum because of this and keeps Romney from getting enough delegates.

FUMR!! NO ROMNEY!!

Agreed, but... Let's make sure I understand you.

If Willard is the nominee, come November, you'll not vote for him, even if you're convinced that's the only way to keep Obama from winning a second term because no other candidate has a chance. Then, if it's Romney vs. Obama Unleashed, you either don't care who wins or, you prefer the Marxist over the pretender.

A woman called into Mark Levin's show last night with a similar sentiment. He was just as incredulous as I have been.

But, hold on. Now it occurs to me that, if the GOP sees enough of you (us) who take this stand, ... Maybe this can help to bring about a brokered convention. So, it's definitely worth a try. You're right; it's too early to talk about caving in to the Establishment. I'm going to put away this "If Willard is the nominee" stuff until after the convention and pray that we won't need it anymore by then.

Thanks for your patience.

LOVE IT! Why can’t enough people see how Newt Gingrich would change things for the better as our President?

I will not vote for Mitt Romney I want a conservative president not a Democrat lite wishy wash like Romney. I know a lot of Republican/Conservative voters that feel the same. I know many say this will only help Obamma, but I simply cannot vote for Mitt Romney....

Sorry Carry, my reply was meant for the poster above yours : / I was in such a hurry to get out of the house and to an appointment that I replied to the wrong poster : o

You can imagine when I got home and settled down to read your reply, shakes head. I was sitting there thinking, “Well heck, Carry, if you think that why did you say that other statement!?”, which I realized after going back and looking at the thread, it was because YOU had not said it, lol.

Ah me.... After all these years, that was a first for me, and I hope the last!

Take care, and may God guide our course.

This guy Romney is a fraud, and between him and Paul, they are proving that a near majority of GOP primary voters are chumps. BTW, I’ll be seeing Rick, and I’m sure lots of Romulens at at a Harrisburg conference on Friday and Saturday, so I think there will be quite a few tough exchanges there.

I take it you haven’t examined his judicial appointments, including ones who foisted homomarriage upon Massachussets and crucified the Boy Scouts. Romney appointed almost exclusively leftist judges and there’s no evidence beyond his word that he won’t do so as President.

And we know what Myth’s word is worth, don’t we? Or do actually believe him?

Sounds like Hoppe’s “Democracy: The God That Failed?”

If so, Hoppe is not a monarchist.....but does believe that monarchy inevitably lead to more liberty than pure democracy. Hoppe is an anarchocapitalism, I believe.

Actually, “Leftism: from de Sade and Marx to Hitler and Marcuse,” by Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn.

Both books are actually available for free on mises.org’s webstie.

Hank, I am aware of his stint in MA. My point was simply this, Obama will not bend to any pressure from Conservatives or Republicans so we will end up with the worst of the worst. It is a guarantee. It will be Obama’s Nothing to Lose second Term, and he will milk it for all it's worth.

IF Mittens wins the Republican Nomination and IF he wins the General against the Dear Leader, we have a good chance of influencing his choices, just as the uproar against Harriet Meyers and Amnesty forced Bush, a RINO in his own right, to back down and make the right decisions.

IF you think Obama and Romney are one in the same, there is nothing I can say to change your mind. It is beyond my comprehension that anyone could believe that, but here we are. I have said all I can say about it.

Vote for Daffy Duck if you like in the General Election if Romney ends up being the guy running against Obama. You are not alone here on FR with that idea. Other FReepers like myself disagree. So be it.

I am a Newt supporter, but the reality is my guy might not make it to the end. The same goes with Santorum, and I think Santorum would fare much worse against Obama than Romney would. Just my opinion and everyone here is entitled to theirs.

Good luck to you my FRiend. As Doris Day famously sang, what will be will be.

Let me give that a try: as for Obamacare, it was modeled on Romneycare and you’re making an absurd argument if you want us to believe Mitt Romney is going to repeal the measure. Then you might want take a closer look at Romney’s support for gun control including Clinton’s ban on semiauto rifles. As for queers in the military, Romney said he was better than Ted Kennedy for gays, his judicial nominees ruled in favor of cross-dressing in schools, and he openly endorsed gay pride. Mitt Romney is quite progressive and he will lose the election..this is 08 only worse
