Rep. Don Manzullo (R-Ill.) said House Majority Leader Eric Cantor should step down from his leadership position for interfering in Tuesdays primary.
The 10-term congressman said he was outraged that Cantor (R-Va.) endorsed freshman Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) in the battle between the two lawmakers, which is growing nastier by the day.
He needs to step down as majority leader, Manzullo told The Hill on Monday afternoon, referring to Cantor. Members of our conference dont trust him, and when you dont trust someone, you need to replace him.

Heritage Action- Manzullo 83%; Kinzinger 63%
So Cantor and the GOPe go with the young pretty boy (Kinzinger) who has voted way less conservative then the 20 year congressman with a lifetime ACU rating of 95%. This is what the leadership in the GOPe have to offer. Pathetic.
“20 year congressman”.......it’s time for him to go, he’s been there long enough. :)
Manzullo is my congressman. He is not perfect, but he is the best in Illinois.
When Kinzinger was redistricted into a heavy Dem district, he moved. Once he decided to move, he could have moved anywhere. Why did he have to attack the best ongressman in the state?
I get his ads, and the ads from that lefty Super Pac. Why does the Frosh have all of the Chicago Establishment pubbie endorsements? Because while Manzullo is no exactly a maverick, he is his own man. Kinzinger seems to want to be Aaron Schock’s man. (See Hillbuzz.org for what that implies).
Kinzinger is running a VERY dirty campaign, even taking snippets of quotations to make Manzullo seem to say the opposite of what he is saying.
Kinzinger is evil.
Normally, I would agree if the primary was between TWO candidates with similar 90%+ ACU and Heritage ratings.
However, Adam’s 72% rating is ridiculous. That’s Scott Brown-like RINO ratings.
I am completely unfamiliar with both candidates, but it does appear a bit unseemly for a majority leader to actually endorse one member over another. And in another twist, it looks like the young gun actually moved to Manzullo’s district after his own district was swallowed by JJ Jr. Leadership must absolutely hate Manzullo.
I’d like to see both Cantor AND Boehner gone.
On Tuesday in Illinois, the super PAC is working against Reps. Donald Manzullo, a Republican, and Jesse Jackson Jr., a Democrat, Politico reports.
The Campaign, based in Houston, says its mission is simple to oust incumbents. We step in as equalizers so that there can actually be a competitive election, so that God forbid members of Congress have to face the voters in a competitive environment, Curtis Ellis, a spokesman for the super PAC, told Politico.
So far, the super PAC has spent more than $1 million for ads around the country, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Thats small compared to some other super PACs, but the impact has been large.
Manzullo, who is engaged in a tight primary contest with Rep. Adam Kinzinger, isnt so happy about that. Why would we have a system that allows people from outside the state with absolutely no connections to literally buy an election? he told Politico
The super PACs financial backers include founder Leo Linbeck, a construction titan based in Houston who has donated $775,000; TD Ameritrade founder Joe Ricketts, who contributed $500,000; and Tim Dunn, CEO of a Texas oil and gas firm. The Campaign garnered $1.8 million as of Jan. 31, according to its most recent campaign finance report.
The super PAC succeeded in its goal to defeat Ohio GOP Rep. Jean Schmidt in her primary earlier this month against obscure tea party candidate Brad Wenstrup. The super PAC shelled out $132,000 for ads against Schmidt, calling her corrupt.
I like Manzullo but that aside...the stupidity of the Republican party is boundless. When Marcy Kaptur beat Kucinich in Ohio, you just knew the Democrat leadership wanted Kaptur and they got what they wanted. But there was no public fight or nastiness of this level in that race.
IF the GOP wins in November, it will clearly be in spite of themselves...Stupid, stupid, stupid.
The Dems redistricted a lot of suburban Chicago into our rural/Rockford industrial blue collar district. The Chicago Republicans would love to peg a real conservative and replace him with a Mark Kirk/Aaron Schock/Mitt Romney type.
There’s no crying in politics, Manzullo. Maybe you should pack your toys and go home if the other boys on the Hill aren’t being nice to you. For goodness sake, so a party leader endorsed your opponent: that’s not election interference. Manzullo’s misguided sense of entitlement is palpable, and that attitude is part of the problem in D.C. Manzullo clearly has demonstrated why his primary opponent should win.
Don Manzullo has served NW Illinois for 20 years. We were saddened to see him gerry-mandered out of our district. I pray that he will win this primary. Congress needs a shining light on the hill.
So you want to oust a reliable conservative just because he has been around for 20 years? To add to that you’d like to replace his with a young RINO? No wonder the GOP is such a mess. Adam Kinzinger is the Scott Brown of Illinois.
It’s a trick to get all of the cheating Dem’s voting in the Republican Primary, to back Manzullo.
While I understand your concerns, I still say it’s time for Manzullo to go. Congress has a 9% approval rating? People hate Congress, except for their own Congressman. Fine. Nothing will ever change.
It’s time to vote them ALL out, even the ones we like, if we expect things to change. The way I figure it, if I like my Congressman, I’ll still vote against him if he runs for reelection, BEFORE I learn what he is really up to.
There are no honest politicians....none. Let them serve their term, so they can boost their egos, then dump them. It’s good for them, it’s better for us. :)
I assume by the smiley face you are joking.
Kinzinger beat his Dem opponent with alot of Tea Party backing. He has been a big disappointment.
So that’s the determining factor in your decision to support RINO Kinzinger?
“So you want to oust a reliable conservative just because he has been around for 20 years? To add to that youd like to replace his with a young RINO? No wonder the GOP is such a mess. Adam Kinzinger is the Scott Brown of Illinois.”
Yes. For the record, I am not a Republican, they lost me after Reagan. I am a Conservative, and I believe in term limits.
Term limits would prevent a few “reliable conservatives” from “serving” us longer than they may like, but it would also severely cut down on the amount of corruption in Congress. I can live with that tradeoff.
I find it quaint that people who would normally be all in favor of term limits, change their tune a bit when it comes to their own Congressman.
As for the “GOP being in a mess”, I couldn’t agree more. They are every bit as corrupt as the democrat party. But....can you imagine the massive support the GOP could attract nationally if they would come out with a term limits platform? It will never happen, but it’s nice to think about.

Don Manzullo is my congressman;I’ve known him a long time.He chairs the Small Business Committee and doesn’t make a lot of headlines. He’s always been a solid conservative and I proudly voted for him today.Boehner and the statist GOP losers backing Kinzinger should tell you all you need to know.
when you dont trust someone, you need to replace him.
Does that mean we can look forward to Boner being replaced soon?
Cantor is yet one more douche who (too) many FReepers wanted to run for president.
What????? First time I’ve heard ‘president’ mentioned & he’s ‘my’ congressional rep (that I did NOT vote for last time!). Oh boy, ‘president’ is a really bad idea ...
It appears the GOP-E Rombots are trying to purge Conservatives from the party using the same tactics in Congressional primaries they are using in the Presidential primary. Next e-mail I get from Cantor I’m going to unsubscribe.
Two-State Newt did something similar to this in 1996 — he intervened unsuccessfully in the TX primary against none other than Ron Paul. But Paul hates Santorum more than he does Newt.
Here is what this endorsement of Adam Kinzinger by Cantor is all about. Manzullo is a very fine man and one terrific Congressman who has held this seat for twenty years. It is the old John Anderson district and was held by a Democrat when Manzullo defeated the Democrat even while Clinton was being elected to his first term. Manzullo has made the 16th a very Republican District by compiling a twenty year track record of social conservatism, foreign policy conservatism and fiscal conservatism and by resisting the free trade schemes that have elsewhere done such damage to manufacturing and to factory workers. Nationally, manufacturing is apparently 12% of the economy. Here, in a relatively rural and agricultural district centered on Rockford, manufacturing is 23% of the economy. Thanks, Don.
Whores like Cantor and Boehner live for lobbyist and special issue cash above all. They are willing to demand that caucus members vote for every increase in the debt limit that Obozo's corrupt regime requests. Lots of the money goes to Republican as well as Demonrat special interests, after all, and we must not jeopardize the special interests that hand out the money and run the really neat cocktail parties to protect such boring losers as actual taxpayers, right???. Just ask Eric Cantor and John Boehner.
Kinzinger was elected to Congress by Tea Party folks just two years ago based upon his grand promises to them. When he arrived in Congress, he proceeded to do nothing but suck up to the corruption-defined GOP House leaders and pissed on (and also pissed off) his Tea Party constituents back home. He is being rewarded by the "leaders" for betraying the Tea Party and his constituents.
Not unlike the disgraceful Romney campaign, Kinzinger expends massive amounts of special interest money collected for him by Cantor and spends it on nothing but lies and distortions of Don Manzullo's fine and exemplary record.
Don Manzullo is a movement conservative who was quite active in Young Americans for Freedom in his law school days at Marquette Law School when the disciples of William Ayres and Bernardine Doehrn Ayres were running wild. Don was at Rick Santorum's appearance in Rockford yesterday. Kinzinger was not there and was not represented. Kinzinger no longer does movement conservative appearances because he is a junior stooge for "leadership."
Finally, Don Manzullo sent an open letter to Boehner, asking that Congress cut short a recess, come back into session and pass a resolution vowing that there would be no more debt limit increases to accommodate Obozo. That essentially was demanding that the whores like Boehner and Cantor behave as though they were actual Republicans. Of course, neither Boehner nor Cantor are interested in anything so unseemly as actually fighting Obozo and cutting off his allowance.
I am proud that Don Manzullo is my Congressman and I expect that the new 16th district GOP of Illinois will agree this evening. If Aaron Schock, one southern Illinois "GOP" Congresscritter John Shimkus, Eric Cantor and John Boehner think that Kinzinger ought to represent Illinois 16, those of us who live here say to each of them: mind your own business. As to Adam Kinzinger, after his despicable campaign, I am glad to see him go.

You like Reagan, but you’d rather have the less conservative incumbent beat the conservative incumbent because the more conservative guy has been in Congress longer?
“You like Reagan, but youd rather have the less conservative incumbent beat the conservative incumbent because the more conservative guy has been in Congress longer?”
Yes, and at the next election, you can vote the RINO out. If a politician has been in Congress 20 years, it’s way passed time for him/her to find a real job. Voting him out will send a message to the other career politicians...
