The Peyton Manning sweepstakes came to an end Monday when the free agent quarterback informed the NFL teams pursuing him that he intended to sign with the Denver Broncos.
The resolution of where Manning, one of the most high-profile free agents in pro football history, will play next immediately rippled through the ranks of NFL quarterbacks. The Broncos seem intent on trading quarterback Tim Tebow and speculation immediately focused on the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars. A trade to either team would send Tebow back to the state where he won a Heisman Trophy and two collegiate national championships at the University of Florida.
Manning had narrowed his choices to the Broncos, Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers. He informed Broncos front office executive John Elway, the franchises Hall of Fame quarterback and two-time Super Bowl winner, on Monday morning that he planned to play in Denver. Other teams also received word of Mannings decision, a person familiar with the deliberations said.
Mannings agent, Tom Condon, was working to apply the finishing touches to a contract with the Broncos. No last-minute breakdown in negotiations was expected because the teams on Mannings list of finalists understood that it would take a deal in the range of $90 million over five seasons to sign him, according to the person close to the situation.

I hope Tebow stays, but I think Elway dislikes him too much.
Unlike pitchers who go to the Rockies, he won’t have to worry that his curve ball won’t work anymore
I hope Tebow goes to another team and Denver lives to regret it. Manning is past his prime, he will be playing outdoors 50% more than he ever has. The Colts were built around Manning, he won’t have that luxury in Denver.
I’m not a big football fan, but I lived in Gainesville and therefore I at least know who Tebow is! I have vaguely followed his progress, and he seems to be doing well, so the thing that mystifies me is how much people in Colorado hate him. I know somebody who lives in Denver and evidently they all want him gone.
I would assume this is because of his religious positions. Denver is an extremely leftist, secularized city. It’s bizarre that your sort of typical sports guys would even get into this though.
Then, when he retires after a season or two who’ll be manning Peyton’s place?
Tim will be just fine with or without the Broncos.
Do you know why Manning is doing this? Because he CAN. He has had his many hours of fame, but like so many jocks before him, doesn’t know when to quit. They overstay their prime and often make a fool of themselves.
Jim Palmer’s “comeback” as a baseball pitcher was a shining example of an over-the-hill athlete with delusions of grandeur!
There’s got to be some arrogance involved with Manning, too. He may have a case of the redass over his little brother getting so much glory in the Super Bowl. So while I don’t wish Manning any bad luck, if he has some I wouldn’t mind hearing about it!
God Bless Tim Tebow!
Not saying Tebow is perfect but he came in and turned around a losing team, then won in the playoffs. And the articles all diss Tebow. Seems very unfair.
Peyton Manning on the other hand has to hope he doesn't literally land on his head in one of those many pass rushes he'll soon be facing.
The Broncos have put their all their eggs in one basket. Good Luck!
Exactly my thoughts. A mighty fine thank you, heh? I hope he leaves and they do live to regret it. Would serve them right.
“Do you know why Manning is doing this?”
Ah....90 million dollars over 5 years?
If the Broncos dump Tebow they are fools. What happens if Manning gets hurt again? A lot of QB’s go down during the season. Sometimes even if for a game or two.
Decent back up QB’s are hard to come by.
“...how much people in Colorado hate him. I know somebody who lives in Denver and evidently they all want him gone”
Huh? Don’t believe everything you hear. Fans all over Colorado had a blast watching Tebow play last season. All you need to do is go to a sportsbar and see the fans. Just stop listening to the media and the tiny number of loudmouth, leftist, haters that pretend to be football fans.
Too bad Elway’s brain is not as good as his arm.
Glad Tebow may get a chance to go to an organization that appreciates him.
I graduated from University of Florida and now live near Denver. Tebow had a huge following and some vocal haters. Denver is an urban, left wing island with it’s evil twin city Boulder. The rest of Colorado is conservative and mostly anti-communist!!!!
I did not hear any figure whatsoever. Can’t believe the Broncos would pay that much for a player in questionable health. Whatever!
I think this may be a bad move by the Broncos. Manning is a great QB but he is 36 years old and spent the last year recovering from a serious neck injury.
It will take him a bit to start hitting his stride again. They will probably get about 2 and a half years with him barring more injuries and once they get injured they seem to keep getting injured.
On the other hand Tebow is young and still learning. He is a winner and will probably be a great one. He has the physical skills for it. His times in the slalom and forty and jump were surprisingly good. He is not just some big palooka, he can dodge and run and leap with the best of them. I do think Manning would be a great reserve QB for maybe 10 more years. They don’t take much of a beating and can stick around a long time and come in and win games.
Why does Elway personally dislike Tebow?
Bingo! Professional sports is a more about ego, immorality, thuggery, and assorted sins than about character and winning. Elway just couldn’t stand the way Tebow won. The Knicks just couldn’t stand letting a character-laden player like lin continue to win. Now they have Carmello running the team (and the coach fired!) and losing. It is so refreshing to have these Christians marginalized and get back to the debauchery that professional sports has become!
I agree that this is a huge mistake. Not that Manning probably can’t play but that a team is going to get only about 2 years out of him and then after that the Bronocs will have to start searching for a future starting QB. Tebow is relatively young and can still learn and grow and the Broncos are going to throw him away
John is back in the Coke and the Sauce.
It is pretty obvious to anyone in the Denver area who follows sports. I don’t know for sure, but Elway seems like a narcissist to me. Narcissists hate anyone else getting any attention. Wonder how Payton will get along with the EE-Elway Ego?
It seems a really stupid decision. Why not hire Joe Namath?

But the deal isn’t sealed yet.
Ngat is right! Fans started showing up at sports bars again. Five years ago, you actually had an easier time catching a Green Bay game at most bars and actually had to ask the owner to put a TV on the Denver game. Our precious little state is so going to regret this deal.
Clearly, your friend needs to get out more...
Tebow returned passion to Bronco's football last season - and excited the entire state...
More phone calls to radio stations today on the way home about those upset about this than those in favor...and that was on the Bronco's "official" radio station.
Count me in the
not happy column...
Welcome to corporate America. I think Manning falls flat, btw. It's his own Brett Farve act.
After watching the Patriots defensive line just push the Broncos offensive line all over the field I’d be surprised if Manning isn’t back in the MRI scanner before half the seasons over.
I think Manning is a decent guy himself I think he is probably even a Christian from what I have seen of his family.
Manning has been better than Tebow is right now and might still be for a year or two but then he will be gone and a much more skilled Tebow will still be playing.
There was a billboard in Denver that had a website for people to vote Tebow or Manning. Tebow won by a large margin. The tax payers paid for that stadium. I wish we could fire that idiot coach fox! Elway too! I will be rooting for whoever is playing the Broncos!
Welcome to Jacksonville, Tim!
My son bought a large house in Denver around 1990 and worked
on it for a year or so and lived in it a few months. He was promoted and transferred back to the So East. During this time there was a large influx of of people from California
and the prices increased greatly. Got a very good return on
his investment.
Sometimes blessings come disguised as trials. Maybe the Broncos management doesn’t deserve Tebow and perhaps he’s going to greener pastures to thrive guided by the Unseen Hand.
Yes, we have the large influx of Californicators escaping the collapse of what happened there, but voting for the same things here. Home prices are way down now. I just hope they fish out the Elway and Fox in the punch bowl before it gets turd like in Denver.
Unless he moved his membership to a church in Denver, Tebow is a member of First Baptist Church, Jacksonville.
If Jacksonville needs a QB that would be a perfect match plus it is also close to Gainesville.
Manning’s been out of the game for a year plus he’s older and dealing with recovering from the cervical spine injury. At least Favre didn’t miss a season and was real healthy until the last year. Manning has to get used to new surroundings as well. No guarantees it works out for him and the Broncos.
He’ll be staring at the Denver sky when he’s not digging turf out of his facemask. I can only imagine he’s doing this for the money. Denver had the most cap room. If he wanted another Superbowl he would have gone to San Francisco.
I agree and I also think that Elway is concerned that Tebow could eventually usurp him as the greatest Broncos QB of alltime so he might be at least subconsciously be looking for a way to get rid of him.
As a Patriots fan, I'm hoping that they can make a trade for Tim Tebow. Tom Brady, who may well go down as the greatest QB in the history of the game, is entering his twilight years and it's time to groom a successor. I believe that Tebow is still young enough to tutor under Brady for a few years before assuming the helm himself as Patriots QB where he can continue the dynasty of Bill Belichick.
Also, I think New England is the best place for Tim Tebow to play football as we are deeply conservative and religious out here (once you get outside the city). Also, New England has the highest standard of living in the United States in terms of climate, geography, education, medicine, culture, dining, hiking, dog-owning, fishing, hunting, beer brewing and sports.
SO hopefully Tim Tebow is soon pulling on a Patriots uniform.
As for Peyton Manning, I can't help but think that Denver is making a grave mistake. Peyton is turning 36 and is surely past his prime and coming off what was very close to being a career-ending injury. At best, Peyton will have 2-3 more seasons in him and the Broncos offensive line better protect him well because he's one good hit away from having his career ended.
Finally, someone that sees it like me.
This guy had an illegl operation (in the US) in England with stem cells. Oh, I really like my QB to have cells from another body in his neck.
The wording on the contract for neck injury is going to be touchy. One hit and the contract is null and void.
Anyone is an idiot that signs him.
yes, jacksonville is a probability. i wonder if a team like KC would try timmy time?
even though i’m not a 49er fan, peyton made a mistake not picking them if his criteria was to win a championship. maybe he just wanted to stay on a horse-themed team?
You may be right. I do not wish anything bad on Manning, but think he should probably go out at the top of his game and not get hurt and go out disabled. I do not see Broncos fans buying many tickets. I won’t. Elway and Fox may have just super glued themselves to the railroad track.
yes he will because he knows who he is, what he is about and also knows that football is not the do all be all in his life. He has his God and his faith and will do great things.
Do you think Elway the punchbowl turd is destroying the Broncos on purpose to keep his legacy from being challenged?
Elway running the organization? A dumb jock atop a football franchise. Doesn’t that say it all about the, uhm, sport?!
