Rick Santorum: If I Win The Illinois Primary, I Win The Nomination
By Andrew Rafferty EFFINGHAM, Ill. -- Rick Santorum on Saturday guaranteed that a win in the Illinois primary will result in his nomination as the Republican presidential nominee.
"This is a primary, and turnout is everything. You do your job, you do your job, then this is the pledge," Santorum said. "If we're able to come out of Illinois with a huge or surprise win, I guarantee you, I guarantee you that we will win this nomination."
Illinois has largely been predicted to favor Mitt Romney for Tuesday's primary. The vote is expected to be driven by Chicago and its surrounding suburbs, pegged as unfavorable territory for the former Pennsylvania senator's brand of conservatism. But in areas like Effingham, hours south of the Windy City, Santorum hopes to fire up a Republican base that is often overshadowed by its Democratic counterparts to the north.
"You know you don't get a chance to out-vote your friends up in the Chicago-land area very often, but this is a primary and turnout is everything," he said, standing in a warehouse of a local business specializing in kitchen equipment. While stumping in the Land of Lincoln, Santorum said he feels like he's already running in the general election.
People ask me why Im the best candidate to run against Barack Obama," said Santorum. "Its because I feel like, in many respects, I am running against Barack Obama here in this primary because Mitt Romney has the same positions as Barack Obama in this primary.
The health care bill that Romney signed as governor of Massachusetts is the issue Santorum has been hammering him on most frequently. Santorum says the legislation laid the groundwork for the health care bill Obama signed in 2010....

If Rick Santorum wins the nomination, the GOP is insane.
Probably true but Illinois is a tall order.
Too bad he faced stumbling blocks in Michigan and Ohio.
I’d think the GOP is insane if he doesn’t get the nomination and especially those who seek to split the anti-Romney vote.
Your boy is beginning to babble. (He does that when he is desperate for attention.)
Romney Camp in response:
“Senator Santorum is an economic lightweight who has precisely zero job creating experience. He ought to scare every conservative when it comes to his economic record. We won’t get the economy going again by replacing one senator with no job creating experience with another with no job creating experience.”
Romney is just so dang arrogant it ain’t even funny. And Romneycare and turning around the Olympics with a big handout from Uncle Sam is supposed to impress me with his “job-creating record”?
Santorum’s right: If he can win in IL, I see no reason he can’t take NY or CA either, which are the big contests, at least one has to go to Not-Romney to take this to the convention.
I don’t think he’ll get to the point of promising “permanent lunar-based colonies within eight years.”
This ain't the Bible Belt no mo’ Toto! Santo is too weak a candidate to hang our future on. Obama will eat him alive.
One can only conclude from your own logic that you, PSYCHO, are always so desperate, as you never stop babbling.
The Beltway Bunch and general sons of famous fools has gutted the party. GOP probably stands for
....In other words, someone else makes the decisions.
For decades, I have voted along the line...holding my nose... well... Dole, Bush 1 &2, McNasty....
Looks like you are beginning to babble a lot yourself.......(same reason)
Sort of like what is going on here at Free Republic.
Go line up to join the lunar colonies where all intelligent discussion comes across as “babbling” to their enfeebled minds.

Rick will get pounded in California and New York. He has no organization in either state and as far as California, is a non-entity. Newt has more visibility in California.
I have no illusions about the odds against Santorum in this upcoming Illinois primary fight. I just said “if.” Unless I’m mistaken, Santorum has proven three (four?) times this primary season to not count him out yet.
California is not for another two-and-a-half months. That’s a political lifetime.
Instead of responding to Romney's critical view of Santorum, based on reality, one might add, you instead make irrelevant comments about Newt Gingrich's space proposal. That tells me a whole lot about what even Santorum's supporters seek to run and hide from.
“Newt has more visibility in California.”
That just might be his problem. His phenomenal gender gap will be most accentuated in CA, the home of Boxer and Feinstein.
One more time, we agree. What is wrong with this party?
He’s smoking something.
I agree with you as regards California and New York. It’s odd, but if he is nominated it will be largely on the strength of delegations whose states (MA,CA,NY,VT, etc.) he has no chance of carrying in the general election. I’m not sure that is a good indicator.
God we hope not. Illinois voters don’t fail us now.
not going to win...like the guy...it is reality...we have to accept it over here, and adjust
3 or 4 reasons, or a few more
Iowa, North Dakota, Alabama, Mississippi, Colorado, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Missouri (part 1), Tennessee, Kansas
Funny you should say that, because a lot of knowledgeable, powerful experts are doing just that... and have been for awhile. and much of their interest, and many of their concerns stem from national security issues.
since you almost always post stuff about Newt without knowing what the heck you are talking about - I have a clue for you: Newt has said he would like to create an opportunity for the private sector to be let loose in 'space exploration' with little, if any, of the funding coming from the government - mostly prizes, incentives, regulation easing.
Read about what is going on in the real world:
Russia is talking with the US and Europe on plans to create a manned research base on the moon, the head of the Russian space agency Roscosmos said Thursday.
Roscosmos is discussing the possibilities for a permanent moon base with officials from NASA and the European Space Agency, the agency's chief, Vladimir Popovkin said. "We don't want man to just step on the moon," Popovkin told Vesti FM radio station, according to the Ria Novosti news agency. "Today, we know enough about it, we know that there is water in its polar areas ... we are now discussing how to begin [the moon's] exploration with NASA and the European Space Agency." He said the plan was either to set up a base on the moon or launch a station to orbit around it. Russia also is planning to send two unmanned mission to the moon by 2020, Popovkin said. The comments come after a string of high profile space failures by the Russians. On Sunday, the doomed Mars probe Phobos-Grunt plummeted..

I think Rick Santorum would be a great nominee. Honest, smart, and a real fighter.
Supporting RINO ROMNEY openly on FR openly and publicly should earn the poster immediate suspension or banishment from Free Republic. Coming out either now, or after Gingrich suspends his campaign, either way. Anti-thetical to the essence of Free Republic.
Sort of like what is going on here at Free Republic.
LOL! True be that!
And add to that the fact that Santo is now getting hammered non stop with this ad in almost every channel:

This race is truly bizarre...
“Newt has more visibility in California.”
When Newt came to speak here in 3 different L.A. locations, it was never reported in the local media. Obviously the LA SLIMES will never cover the GOp either which is understandable. Most conservatives who are politically-charged that I know of here in the L.A. area did not even know Newt was in town until we all looked at FR and it was too late..
Rick you ignorant slug. Sumptimes you just sount stoopit.
Do we now need an English class here as well?
Just for the kids.
He’s probably right... “if”... This is intelligent strategy on his part, actually, from a motivational standpoint insofar as his supporters are more apt to be fired up positively by such a bold declaration than Mitt’s would be contrarily. It’s a tall order, and in purely statistical terms unlikely, but stranger things have happened already this cycle.
What’s your problem? Soaring rhetoric? /s LOL
Wonder what you’d call him if he promised “permanent lunar-based colonies within eight years.”?
Don’t worry..the Chinese already have plans for a base on the moon.
Years later the ignorant will be saying “Newt was right”
The GOP is insane by anyone voting for Romney. I favor Obama over Romney, any day.
LOL
Nuttin....he’s still my backup plan.
LOL
Nuttin....he’s still my backup plan.
Wouldn’t it be great if, in a completely unexpected twist, Ron Paul won Illinois?
If Illinois voters were smart they would chose the family values candidate with character, Rick Santorum. God please let this happen. First true conservative in decades. I just hope this happens.
I doubt Ron Paul could win an Asst. Manager postition at Dairy Queen..........but yeah, he’d be better than Romney.
God be with him. We need Romney to fail—badly. May the voters of Illinois be wise and may the Romney slime machine finally crash and burn.
The GOP is crazy if it nominates Mitt Romney! Almost any other GOP politician would make almost infinitely more sense.
