If police chiefs send armed officers to a journalist's door because he didn't like what was written abut him, would you feel just a tad uncomfortable as an American at the audacity? This is no academic discussion because it really happened. Not in what liberals may claim is the dangerous, intolerant south but instead in the heart of liberal land itself, Berkeley, California. Worse, one of the reasons this whole situation arose is because police were too distracted by an Occupy Berkeley protest to respond to an incident that ended up in the murder of a 67-year-old resident.
But first, on Friday, Feb. 9, Berkeley Police Chief Michael Meehan sent an armed officer to the door of Bay Area News Group reporter Doug Oakley at nearly one in the morning to demand that he publish a correction about something the reporter had written about the Berkeley police department.
The Oakland Tribune notes that reporter Oakley at first thought there was a death in his family or some emergency when he opened the door to a policeman at 12:45 AM but was shocked when the officer presented the reporter with the chief's demands for changes in a published article.
First Amendment activists are not amused by the chief's intimidation tactics:
Meehans's actions were "despicable, totally despicable," said Jim Ewert, general counsel of the California Newspaper Publisher's Association. "It's the most intimidating type of (censorship) possible because the person trying to exercise it carries a gun."
Chief Meehan has been under fire for what residents feel was his "slow response" to the murder of Berkeley homeowner Peter Cukor who was murdered by a man with mental problems as the victim's wife watched in horror. Mr. Cukor had initially called the Berkeley police on a non-emergency line when he saw someone skulking

See the pattern?
Normal leftwing behavior
Ohmy, he must be one im-pooo-tent jerkoff !
I wonder what this smug self important little 4 star twat makes?
He should be billed for the time the officer spent on the call.
And the $ should be taken from his last paycheck on the way out.
Typical 4 star ranks are Commander US European Command, and Chief of Police Berkeley Police Department.
The journalist can sue the police officer who came to his door with the threat, as well as the Police Chief, for IIED - Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress, and for extortion.
Cukor’s family should sue the Occupy Berkeley movement and any identifiable leader, spokesman or member, for causing violence demonstrations which pulled police manpower away from being available to respond to criminal activity elsewhere.
The police chief and the officer who delivered the threat should both be arrested.
Well, he is a 4 star general. He likes buttons, whistles, lights. Lots of lights. Lots of noise makers. And he has those crazy eyes.
is that really the doofus who sent them to her door at 1AM
I would have filed a complaint and a lasw suit the next day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HE would be without a badge before I was through

This whole post is old news. Today, Berkeley hired an outside lawyer to investigate what the BPD Chief did. They did hire one of the biggest liberals in San Francisco to look into the matter so it may end up being a white wash though.
Most Chiefs I have seen have one or two stars. This guy looks like an general of a South American army.
And he has crazy, whacked out eyes....
i hope you are filling your gillet with green beer and Guiness tonight.
Thank you for Nachumlist.
Beer yes. Green..... that may be my face if I drink too much :)
The city of Berzerkeley has hired a law firm and private investigators to scan the conduct of their Chief of police.
