The U.S. soldier accused of slaughtering 16 Afghan civilians last weekend had twice been injured during tours in Iraq and was reluctant to leave on his fourth deployment, a Seattle lawyer said Thursday.
"He wasn't thrilled about going on another deployment," said the lawyer, John Henry Browne. "He was told he wasn't going back, and then he was told he was going."

First thing we do is give the scumbags free legal aid. Whatta country!
Given the fact that there is no longer a defined mission in Afghanistan (other than getting our troops killed), we need to have all our troops brought home.
38 years old, well he sure fix that problem. Why was he not kicked out years ago.
There are plenty of soldiers who have volunteered to deploy and who have few or zero deployments, but commanders want the most “experienced” soldiers or those organic to their unit only.
There comes a point where common sense . . . oh wait. This is the army.
“38 years old, well he sure fix that problem. Why was he not kicked out years ago.”
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
Other than the fact that your first sentence is unintelligible, I’m tracking on what you’re trying to say.
He could have joined after 9/11, like a lot of soldiers. You don’t know how many years he’s been in.
“He described the soldier as highly decorated and said he had twice been injured during deployments to Iraq, once suffering a concussive head injury and once a serious leg injury.”
You win the Blue Falcon award of the month.
Maybe he did not want to go back because he had head injuries? Given he was a decorated soldier who served multiple tours, that would make sense.
Since there is no clear purpose for this “war” except a bunch of muslim toe sucking, bowing and appologizing, we need to get the soldiers out of there. This is a ticking time bomb not to mention abusive of the US military’s integrity.
Are you currently serving? If you are, you must be one of the “great minds” at the Pentagon. “Uhh, gee, sir, I don’t wanna deploy.” “That’s okay, SSG Pog, we’ll get somebody else to be a fobbit.” You can’t quit like in a civilian job. I have absolutely no clue where you could have gotten that idea.
This was clearly a failure of both this soldier and this soldier’s chain of command. EVERY officer in the US Army knows that a traumatic brain injury can cause irrational, violent behavior for YEARS. We’ve all taken the MANDATORY training. If he told his PL that he had doubts and his PL didn’t follow up, that is on the PL. From what I’ve read, this sounds like a clear failure of LEADERSHIP to consider basic soldier care and to entertain the idea that this guy was on the verge of cracking.
If I were a bettin man, I’d bet he got treated by an Army “psychologist” on par with Nidal Hassan, who then cleared him for duty. He told his chain that he was concerned and his chain ignored him.
Do not piss on American soldiers with your crap.
WTF. You don’t just “take” a medical discharge. A medical discharge is *not* up to the individual soldier.
You are also assuming someone suffering from TBI even knows they have it. Their brains are f-ed up. I’m not saying that was the case here, but from the reports I’ve seen, it sure sounds like it.
If you are charged with a serious crime in the state of Washington, Browne is the go-to guy. I would hate to be in the defendant”s chain of command and had any knowledge that might create mitigating circumstances.
Before Browne is done, the chain of command will be to blame for the killings.
For those who don't remember, Browne once represented Ted Bundy in one of his prosecutions.
I had wondered why the Bare Foot bandit got off with such a light sentence, but only until I saw that be was represented by John Henry Browne.
Have you ever been in the military, I guess not, you can resign and/ or ask for a medical anytime you wish, it has always been that way. And knock off the WTF crap if you do not know how the system works just say it.
Treat soldiers like crap, ignore their mental problems and tell them it doesn’t matter if they are getting screwed.....it is their personal problem and no one else’s.
This is exactly what you get,2 tours in Iraq was enough to make me realize that enough was enough.Whoever he was,I am not happy about his actions but I don’t think people correctly understand the situation he was in.
Cracking down on soldiers when it is the civilian and military leadership that is screwing everything up,just adds more fuel to the fire and lets the incompetent(who won’t risk their own lives) pick a scapegoat.
Oh and executing a soldier whose Army lost 6 men to soldiers in the forces, they were supposed to be helping, says a lot about that soldier’s Army and his country.Just sayin’,what he did is disgusting but it was the logical outcome of what the Afghans set in place when they started murdering American soldiers in cold blood.
I am currently serving. You can ask for anything you want, which means nothing. If you have ever served, you would know that. You can always leave with a dishonorable or an Other than Honorable all on your own. That’s assuming you even know you’re screwed up.
You may know the system, but, if you do, you’re purposefully obfuscating a soldier’s choices when attempting to “resign.” I have dealt with this issue and you don’t walk in with a letter of resignation saying you want out and then go on your merry way. It doesn’t work that way and if you know anything at all, you know it.
If you want to see Afghanistan function like a peaceful, orderly society, just tell the Afghan government and the Taliban (and Pakistan, for good measure) that the bullsh!t is over ... and that if they don't get their acts together the U.S. is going to send this guy back -- with bigger guns and more ammunition this time.
We have the draft.
It’s just called The National Guard now.
USAF, 1967 -71, Yes, he should have walked. Because he still gets the dishonorable . And yes he was screwed up and no matter what it takes get out, at least you are not going to be executed /or spend the rest of your life in jail.
You are nuts.
I blame this whole situation on the Congress and that Idiot Obama. They have lowered the countries military capability to the point we don’t have enough ground forces around to cover these contingincies.Thats why we have to have troops going on their third and fourth tour in these combat areas giving the enemy another bite at the apple.
These troops are not even given the time to decompress and they’re sent back on their next combat tour. This is disgusting.
I thank our serving troops but I hate the leadership thats putting them in situations out of their control.
They even ensure that this option is usually not worth it.
There was a guy (douchebag) in my unit that decided he wanted out. By the time they were done running his request through all the channels, he was at the end of his enlistment anyway.
The only thing he accomplished was getting himself a well deserved "Other than Honorable."
I agree...and the first time ever I've said our soldiers need to be brought home in a time of war. Had they not tied their hands...and started arresting them etc. I might have felt differently....but if they aren't going to let them win this war outright, and keep putting our soldiers at risk before these heathen minded people....then bring them home...yesturday.
Why should America sacrifice our best for people across the world for whom freedom and liberty are unimportant. We should NEVER sacrifice blood in an unwinable cause. The BEST we can hope for in the ME is to wreak enough damage upon them, from the air, to give the message that America will not tolerate being attacked. And, to hell with trying to fight a “kinder, more gentler war”. Civilian casualties are part and parsel to any war. I say NO MORE BOOTS on the GROUND in the ME. We can destroy them from the air.
If that was the case, everyone would get shot at a couple of times, holler “I QUIT” and take off into the wild blue yonder.
And that’s just the officers.

Exactly.....and no more re-building these God forsaken places who their own people not only are not co-operating, but they oppose and destroy what is done.
Aphganistan people have made it quite clear they do not want to change how they view life and desire the Death Cult of Islam to rule their life.......so let them have their way...there comes a time where you get it....they've chosen to stay married to their abusive lifestyle.
You can`t build a modern state where people reject modernity.
I don`t understand why this has never occurred to politicians.
Politicians simply use this re-building nonesense today in order to have grand sums of dollars to laundry thru it all.
It’s not about the countries....
I think so. It`s just about transferring more of Americans` wealth to the ruling class. I mean honestly does John McCain, for instance, really believe we are going to build modern democratic states in the Middle East
My answer is no.
John McLame is now out there pushing for U.S. military intervention in Syria. These people just don’t get it. The Muslim is NOT our friend. There is NOTHING we can do to make them like us.
Probably....he'll say whatever is politically popular at the moment.
Additionally we have a sitting Pres. who promotes Muslim Ideology rather than speak the truth about them....yet trashes everything Christian or turns his head....dispicable! Then he turns around and place Mr. nice guy....what a deceiver!
