Obama compares Republicans to ‘flat earth society’ for stance on green energy
Washington Post ^ | 3/15/2012 | By David Nakamura

President Obama blasted his Republican critics Thursday for their resistance to investing in alternative energy sources, comparing their stance to the beliefs of those who thought that Columbus would sail off the edge of the world.

In another in a series of speeches defending his energy policies, Obama touted his push for green energy growth — including wind and solar power, electric cars and biofuels — as a way to help wean the nation from a dependence on foreign oil. And he mocked his rivals for failing to embrace his ideas.

“If some of these folks were around when Columbus set sail, they probably must have been founding members of the flat earth society. They would not believe that the world was round,” Obama told an enthusiastic crowd of hundreds of students at Prince George’s Community College in Largo. “Maybe they would have agreed with one of the pioneers of the radio who apparently said, ‘Television won’t last. It’s a flash in the pan.’ ”

That's rich!

The "Flat Earth" was the settled science of the time.
It was precisely flat-Earth deniers of the time who rejected the notion of a flat Earth.

But instead of waiting until that happens naturally as a result of improved technology, the regime is trying to increase non-green energy costs to the point where the overpriced technologies become competitive.

True enough. In the early days of the gasoline engine, gas was actually quite expensive until refinement technology caught up with the growing demand.

If the world WAS warming - or cooling - whatever - I would fight dems - knowing they use anything as an excuse for control.

It's how they collect useful idiots. They run scare stories - sky is falling stuff - and offer their 'chosen' a chance to "save the world".

Elites have used Silent Spring, Club of Rome, Population Bomb, Nuclear Winter, Global Warming, Peak Oil, Peak Natural Resources.. etc. etc. Each was a lie - each brought in wide-eyed intelligent - but totally naive - young to be transformed to useful idiots. Some with grants - some with jobs to lie and destroy. Slowing turning the innocent into the corrupt. Useful ... useful idiots.

...and Obama believes that communism would have worked if only those countries had the right guy LIKE HIM in charge explaining to the serfs, and if it was phased in correctly like Obama-care is being phased in, so some voters blame the companies for the governments blunders while thinking they are getting free goodies.

...no one in the media will talk about it.

Nor about anything that will displease the regime. They are afraid for their personal safety, plus they won't get invites to the really good cocktail parties!

So, Obama is telling America that we need to divest ourselves of proven energy technologies and give up our freedoms and embrace technologies based on environmental factors we are told by the same administration are killing us.

And people believe this?

“...allows the individual the freedom to travel as we do today.
But don’t you get it? All that freedom to travel is a danger to the regime...More UN Agenda 21. Pack ‘em all (except, of course the elite) into Soviet-style apartment blocks, where they are more easily controlled.”

Absolutely spot-on. Freedom is what the Communists are all against, and when an individual has to take public transportation instead of driving his own vehicle, control can be taken over him.

It is why they love those stupid light-rail trains that nobody wants to ride. It is also why there is an escalating war on suburbia and rural families. If more of them are forced to live in the cities where union thugs roam, they can be controlled much more easily.

Is that an actual picture of him at a gas station, claiming “elect me and I’ll lower gas prices” and now he’s criticizing Republicans?

Pot, kettle much?

Maybe if Obama could show where the tax dollars he has invested in alternative energy scams have paid off, Republicans could be enticed to get in on the game. We aren’t going to get alternative energies by bankrupting the public with failed schemes and artificially high energy prices. We will get new and improved ways of producing energy by creating a wealthy, strong, independent nation again. Reality has to be accepted first, and that reality for now is oil. We have domestic access to all of it we need, if we would only take advantage of it.

Can’t decide whether we give up food or electricity...

If you give electricity, your $50 bulbs will last
a long time.
If you give up food, your $50 bulbs will out live
you.

Obama, Win-Win.

Obama's idea of Green Energy is blowing taxpayer "green" on politically connected companies.

...including wind and solar power, electric cars and biofuels <./I>

Taxpayer money down the rat hole - and kickbacks up the wazoo... Gotta love elite dems - getting their shills in the media to carry water for them - they're shameless.

How about the Democrat-Media Complex so a little independent reporting - like how much taxpayer money was spent on the boondoggles - and EXACTLY what did we GET in return. Not what we 'might' get, 'could' get, 'dream' of getting. But what did we get?

The little butt kissers won't do that story.

No one I know opposes “green energy.” Reasonable people realize, however, that UNTIL it gets here, oil is needed. If Obama thinks he has no control over oil and gas prices, he SURELY has even less control over making green technology work. What advances in alternative energy TECHNOLOGY (not funding) have we seen result from any government policies under Obama? None.

“flat earth”

Obama’s adviser on race relations was busy rooting out Koreans in the `hood http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Journalism/2012/03/13/Al%20Sharpton%20Slut-Gate
but the president’s environmental adviser, Danny Glover, was asked to comment: “Lissen up suckas—global warming causes earthquakes. Word!”

Algae is formed in still waters.

I have a swimming pool that would prove "that ain't necessarily so".

Algae as an energy source has the same drawbacks as any solar project. It doesn't work at night, on cloudy days, when buried under 2 feet of snow, &c. Because the sun puts out about 84 watts per square yard, you need lots of area to intercept enough energy to do anything useful whether photo-voltaic electricity, heating water for your home, or growing green slime. The state of "green energy" at this stage of the game is "NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME"! There is no way that it could maintain our current economy/life style.

Regards,
GtG

“84 watts per square yard”

So, if you have 30 lights and other electrical sources in your home that need 75 watts each, you will need....well, it’s more land than I own, that’s for dang sure. Then, there’s the whole air conditioning and refrigeration issue.

I used to correspond with a biomass guy. I couldn’t get my arms wrapped around the concept’s viability. I figured we’d need something the size of the Pacific to get to a real product.
