Obama Gives British PM a Grill…

I guess it’s better than the iPod filled with his speeches he gave to the Queen.

(ABC News) — President and First Lady Obama gifted UK Prime Minister and Mrs. Cameron a one-of-a-kind Braten 1000 Series Grill hand made by Engelbrecht Grills and Cookers of Paxton, Ill.

The grill normally retails for $1,895, but this one cost significantly more not only because it was a nicer version, but because the White House insisted that every part of the grill be American-made.

Kyle Bloomstrand, vice president of Engelbrecht Grills and Cookers, tells ABC News that the body of the grill is the same one as is always for sale, but that since normally some of the parts in their upscale grill are made in other countries, that had to change for this official White House gift. Everything in this custom-made grill was “Made in America,” which required some parts – the wheels, for instance – to be custom-made.

You need to re-label that stuff. Real Carolina barbeque sauce wouldn’t be caught dead with ketchup or tomato sauce in it.

IIRC, Carolina is vinegar based while Texas tends to be tomato based.

This thread is useless without at least a picture of the type of grill he gave the PM... He might wear mommy jeans, but he did pretty good with the grill.

Heck, they probably used it many times to cook Her Lardass’ Triple Cheeseburgers, and couldn’t figure out what that wheel is on top.

(What IS that wheel on top for, anyway?)

I'll pimp my friend John (and Dale )Reed's book on the subject. It details a lot on the subject in general and the breadth of NC barbeq in specific. It'll leave your mouth watering

The best is here in East Tennessee at Woodridge BluffCity Tennessee.

Next is Coopers in Ilano TX

We are headed to Texas boon docks in May to search out equal or better.

The other pictures at the website makes the wheel look like it lifts and lowers the grill from the fire.

I believe most of the raw materials for the Bean Bags come from China.

But, put yourself in his shoes - what would you give a visiting dignitary as a gesture of good will?

I’d do something along the lines of hitting Hollywood up for some prop from a famous movie, or maybe a custom gun/rifle from Red Jacket Firearms, perhaps a custom made pocketknife from an American knife-maker. Perhaps looking into a quality set of tools from Snap-on.

What I would NEVER do, is pull the hare-brained, low-class crap that Zero has pulled. An iPod with his speeches on it? Arrogance on display. A collection of DVDs in a basket? Wow ... what an utter lack of thought that was. “Here’s a credit card, run to Walmart and spend $200-500 on something that says “America””

Or, giving the sons/daughters gifts from the White House Gift Shop. What the H*ll is that noise?

For sons/daughters - how about asking a celebrity to autograph a CD or DVD for them? Or a stock (non-custom) nice pocketknife, or camera for them to record their own trip. A little thought could go a long ways.

Besides, isn’t there a Protocol Agent that could advise you on these matters?

A grill is just a grill until I don the “Kiss the COOK!” apron.

The British are well known for their love of outdoor cooking. Mary Tudor was especially famed for her marinated flame broiled Protestant.

Thought the same thing, but this is a Smoker; the firebox is that box on the left hand side.

Unless, this is a high-end BBQ that can use both direct heat with a fire pit and/or the slow smoky goodness of Southern BBQ with a firebox on the left far corner.

Either way, I wants one. And you can even put Chinese wheels on it.

Jeff Foxworthy said Carolina BBQ is so good if you put some on top of your head, your tongue will eat its way through your brain to get it. I agree
