Obama Gives British PM a Grill…

I guess it’s better than the iPod filled with his speeches he gave to the Queen.

(ABC News) — President and First Lady Obama gifted UK Prime Minister and Mrs. Cameron a one-of-a-kind Braten 1000 Series Grill hand made by Engelbrecht Grills and Cookers of Paxton, Ill.

The grill normally retails for $1,895, but this one cost significantly more not only because it was a nicer version, but because the White House insisted that every part of the grill be American-made.

Kyle Bloomstrand, vice president of Engelbrecht Grills and Cookers, tells ABC News that the body of the grill is the same one as is always for sale, but that since normally some of the parts in their upscale grill are made in other countries, that had to change for this official White House gift. Everything in this custom-made grill was “Made in America,” which required some parts – the wheels, for instance – to be custom-made.

The only time Mr. Cameron will use this is the day Obama asks for the return of the Churchill bust.

I look forward to the complete and total skewering given Obama by the British press.

I wonder if he checked to see if the Prime Minister was a meat eater. It would be funny if he was a vegan.

Somehow I don’t see Cameron grilling in the backyard of 10 Downing Street.

Do the Brits”grill” outdoors like we do?? Doesn’t sound like a British thing-I can’t even see the butler doing it...

What would YOU give a visiting dignitary. Bear in mind, the rules place dollar limits on personal gifts.

What would YOU give someone, as a good-will token. Something that says America. Something of quality.

We just don’t make things like we used to.

The last time the Brits grilled anything was when they captured Roman prisoners.

Anyone who's been to Britain knows that what they really need are cooking classes, long before any grill is involved.

Credit where due ...

I have to agree. A grill beats the heck out of a box set of DVD's... It's too bad Obama hasn't improved at any of his other Presidential duties.

Funny how Obama has to pull such a scheme to make it look as though “American Built” stuff is so great. Sounds like something the Soviets would have done.

But at least the body of the grill was made in America. More than can be said of Obama himself perhaps. And even if his body was born in America, it is all the foreign parts that make it/him what it/he is.

F-35? Volt? A pack of $50 light bulbs?

You need to re-label that stuff. Real Carolina barbeque sauce wouldn’t be caught dead with ketchup or tomato sauce in it.

I think you got that recipe from some pretenders over around Lexington that don’t know any better.

Well, one would certainly wonder if the fittings for the propane tank are compatible with the European tanks. After all, the CD's obama gave the PM (of himself) were incompatible.

What about the bean bag chairs. Are those considered a ‘nice gift’?

I wouldn’t give those to someone living in a burned out trailer. What an insulting disgrace. Are they supposed to be put in the same room with the revered antique furniture?

They are both trash. Pure and simple with trashy taste. They are unsuccessfully trying to take the office down to their level.

The entire world knows they are not fit for the respect of the Office of the President of the United States.

F-35 is out of bounds, as those are multi-million dollar critters. Besides, we need them.

Volt - Uh, we actaully like Great Britian. Zero has insulted them before, giving them a Volt would perhaps make them hate us worse than Afghanistan hates us now.

Pack of $50 lightbulbs - clever, and priced right for a diplomatic gift; but wrong voltage. Great Britian is at 230 V +10% /- 6%, AC, 50 Hz. I doubt they would fit into the light socket - but if they did, chances are there would be an audible pop, a flash of light and some smoke. It would say that Americans are foolish not only in paying $50 for a bulb, but that they don't last long.

"But at least the body of the grill was made in America."

Out of a Oil drum imported from Saudia Arabia that was labeled U.S. Gallons.

NEW YAWK CITY! That explains a lot! Those critters think that cooking hot dogs on a grill is barbeque.

it’s something that the recipient can actually use when he gets home.

Silly peasant! What makes you think he stoops low enough to actually PREPARE his own food?
