Wish we could give you some clarity in Alabama but...Romney 31, Gingrich 30, Santorum 29, Paul 8
Go Newt! Alabama can do it!
Paul supporters, but not Paul himself, could make or break the other three. With these numbers, there will be a 3-WAY TIE FOR THE DELEGATES. I imagine the GOP-E is so strong in AL that it is pushing Romney. Also Roy Moore is on the ballot, and he is bound to lose again for the Supreme Court. That hurts conservatives. AL people won’t vote for Roy Moore.
Keep in mind that PPP is a Carville owned polling company and they are as honest as Politico and Nancy Pelosi when it comes to anything Republican.
“Time for Rick, ***the spoiler***, to get out of the way, dagnammit!!!” .... /gibe
Surprised it is this close and Romney is in the lead. Do they have early voting in Alabama?
With the margin of error, this is essentially a dead heat (except ole’ Paul of course). Should be interesting.
check out #3.
How does Romney have any strength in the South? Sickening.
The RNC and Congressional chit calling is underway. Bribes, positions, earmarks, contracts, (threats perhaps of losses of all the above).
The people of Alabama can not be behind this, but “interest groups” may be playing a role.
Never heard before that PPP was a Carville enterprise! That is news.
Romney’s strength in MS is probably tied to Haley Barbour; in MS to establishment figures that we may not recognize. I think the AL governor, Robert Bentley, is a liberal Republican, isn’t he?
GO NEWT GO!
Not sure. Everything about Romney just seems so contrary to the people I’ve met from down that way. He’s a phony northeastern politician.
Even if Newt ends up at 31 and Romney at 30, does it matter?
Romney keeps gobbling up delegates. The thing about Romney is that where he doesn’t do well he still gets 20-30% and grabs some delegates.
When Gingrich doesn’t do well he is in single digits and gets no delegates. And Santorum can’t master the task of getting on ballots.
Maybe Mr. Newt should offer a cabinet position to Rick, something solid, like Secretary of State? Maybe he would be willing to join Mr. Newt to beat Romney. Rick simply cannot beat Obama, I am sure of it. The liberals will tear him apart, and he has very thin skin. I can’t believe there isn’t something Mr. Newt could do to get Rick on his side.
Any thoughts?
I’m dyin’ here if this is but remotely true. Santorum must be plugging away for Romney in Alabama, for a share of his ticket.
Rick reads the writing on the wall. Still, for the sake of salvaging less than 1144 for Romney, I hope the spoiled one stays in.
Ron Paul will try to stay in to the convention, for a seat at the table, but it is Romney he wants to deal on Rand’s behalf.
What do you bet there is a war between Ron Paul and Rick Santorum for the Romney ticket?
Romney would need someone from the South (Rand Paul), but,
Santorum has more delegates to offer than Paul.
Newt is the only one running on truth, and he knows exactly what is playing behind the scenes, I’m confident of that. Lord have Mercy.
elitist I forgot elitist.
Rick’s taking one for the team!
I believe Newt has made overtures to Rick some time ago, which explains his light touch and patience dealing with the kid squealer, but in my own mind I think Santorum rejected Newt to go for the power ticket, Romney.
Santorum has ALWAYS played ball with the Establishment and is indebted to them, and they to him really, for his cooperation, particularly for his backing Specter in PA.
Rick is a climber and a player. Always has been, always will be and his RINO record of play fits in perfectly with Romney.
Hey Rita- They say Newt’s doing well with the Tea Party- Those folks better turn out- If it’s within 1-2%, the Ala Gop-e controls the ballots.
Least Newt’s in a better position than a week ago -13.5%.
I’m sorry, my friend, I don’t know.
your 1st sentence is beyond logic.
Santorum has managed to get about 30+% or close to it in just about EVERY primary race.
How many states as Romney’s Stalking Horse (Newt) managed to do that in?
Face it, you know Newt is the true Spoiler in all of this. If he dropped out, Santorum would have been above 50% here and Romney would get 4 or 5 delegates tops. But Newt has to be a pompous, arrogant, a-hole, so splitting the vote will allow Romney to get out of AL with about 13-14 delegates.
Santorum has run at the same strength in virtually every contest in every part of the country. Newt apparentally can’t be competitive unless I-20 goes through the state.
It’s Santorum or it’s Romney. Any other thinking is flat out delusional at this point. If you got math that can counter that, you would have an argument. But since you don’t and your basing your entire argument on emotion similar to what liberals do, you’ll continue driving conservatives into a ditch.
Thanks for the Tea Party news. I am deeply disturbed, smelling corrupt pay for play going on over Alabama, with the GOP-E corraling interest groups to pressure and promise.
This poll can’t be of the rank and file, can it? How could Romney be with in sight of a lead, in Alabama????
Was it #3 who said this PPP poll is a Carville operation?

I am so done with entertaining your obtuseness.
This is about so much more than about your jitters over Santorum. (Brace yourself, Santorum is about Santorum, and you’re just going to have to find that out the hard way.)
Call me when you catch on, and catch up, okay?
Meanwhile, go lay your bone at someone elses feet. I am not in the mood this evening. Maybe tomorrow.
:)
Newt definitely needs to make something out of Santorum going along with Obama on the economy.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2857625/posts
It’s illegal to offer a cabinet post to someone until the candidate has been elected president.
Romney’s share doesn’t surprise me. As I posted elsewhere, Newt said Romney would get a 3rd- or more likely 25-28%. It’s Rick that’s splitting even.
Newt’s been campaigning as he did in Georgia- in a lot of the smaller, rural places to increase turnout. Hopefully, this strategy will pay off.
My stars! Santorum is having his own little breakdown to babble that stuff. Astonishing.
Who Rick seems also to be agreeing with is Romney, the edge nibbler on the economy—the genius who needs something to fix—resulting in Romneycare! Yikes!
I swear, a vote for this empty suit Romney is a vote for Obama 2.0. Santorum on the ticket would just about be the tailgate falling off of a once great nation.
Thank you Vin, for your tireless patience in delivering some details that add to the context.
I never imagined Romney could forage for nearly 30% in Alabama.
Sorry, hit post instead of spellcheck!
Here are the details on the 3/10 - 3/11 PPP Alabama & Mississippi Polls:
“Too close to call in Alabama and Mississippi”

Some things are about principles, not about math.
That’s the Rick Santorum I know here in Pennsylvania.
I will never question his Pro-Life convictions, but in politics he has always done the bidding of the GOP-E.
Thanks for the internals, BC.
I’m not voting for a goofball theocrat like Rick Santorum nor am I voting for a milquetoast crony like Mitt Romney. Both men epitomize the worst elements of the GOP and will lose handily to Obumo. I want a real game changer this time, and that’s Newt.
One interesting stat: Among those who voted early...
53% voted for Newt in AL,
38% voted for newt in MS
But just 5% voted early in AL, and 9% voted early in MS. But if turnout on election day is lower than expected, that slight edge for Newt could make the difference.
I remain curious. After campaigning for office, what did Rick ever do to advance family values? I know he didn’t vote against them, but did he ever lead or advance anything on family values, beyond the status quo?
Rick hustled for the elusive union favor well enough, but he did what for leading on anything? He campaigns on the Right and then it’s never heard of again, busily legislating to the benefit of unions with much more vigor.
Yeah, I’ve been looking at the internals. IMO, PPP has been pretty accurate during the primaries. The numbers mirror Ras from a few days ago - Newt 30 San 29 Rom 28. Not many undecided-
I’m hoping these intrade folks know their stuff; because Newt’s odds shot up after the PPP. No idea why.
Currently, Ala Newt45 San 30 R23; Miss Newt 55, Rom 30, R 20
Hey, any port in the storm.
This is good stuff....and a real race....both Newt and SAntorum pulling delegates away from Newt......I hope they both run it til they break Romney! Though ideally Santorum dropping out would bring me joy!
Oh shoot...I mean they’re pulling votes away from Romney.....Can’t help the error...am soooo excited for Newt.
I got Newt on me mind!!!!
Go Newt Go!!!!!!
AL people wont vote for Roy Moore.
______________________________________________________________
Why not? I thought he was very popular in AL?
Too bad Newt didnt run ads on how Santorum supported earmarks and the Bridge to Nowhere even when it diverted funds for the Hurricane Katrina victims which also hit Mississippi! they tried to take some funding from the Bridge and give it to the people hit down there..Santorum voted NO!
Gov. Bentley is no RINO. He was instrumental in getting our new immigration law passed.
“They say Newts doing well with the Tea Party- Those folks better turn out”
Newt can take a vast majority of the AL, MS Delegates if the Tea partiers Turn out.
Its now or never stand up and be counted.
Looks like mostly even/barely negative, and only very light trading on Newt over the weekend:

Mitten's trading marginally positive on best of the 3 volume-wise:

Rick harder to discern due to very light trading:
