There was an overflow crowd greeting Newt Gingrich when he arrived at the Wiregrass Museum of Art in the southeast corner of Alabama on Saturday.

Looking over the hundreds of people packed into the gallery area and spilling down the steps in the main lobby, Gingrich enthused, "What a crowd. I'm really impressed. There must be no one left at Wal-Mart this afternoon."

oh for pete’s sake..this is on a Saturday, a day when most working people are shopping! The remark was said in jest and it was taken that way by those attending. What is happening to our people, have we lost all sense of humor. I thought that was the liberal way, pick and tear apart every word uttered.

“Both Santorum and Romney.”

Have you received a single Newt robocall against them?

I’m a born again Christian and I don’t want to be lectured to about Christian values by someone who does not even tithe.

I have a friend in MS, and Newt is going to go to church with him tomorrow night, a little Baptist church. I don't want to say the name or location. But Newt has done this before in the South. He is sort of coming back to his southern christian roots.

Santorum only gets about 23% of the catholic vote - and loses the rest to romney, a known Mormon, and then Newt. I am not sure that is the absolute accurate figure, but it is pretty close. It is the evangelicals who support santorum spiritually.

Why catholics bolt from Santorum so consistently is he is so judgmental and self-righteous. the christian church, especially evangelicals, literally crucified Newt for his sins, and wanted nothing to do with him. And for several years, Newt just wandered in a spiritual wilderness.

Whatever you say about the catholics, they have some very comforting rituals, and little by little newt came back to the church because of callista. There are some really deep articles written about this, newt and his spiritual counselors, etc.

But the christian church failed Newt. And my friend told me he is being welcomed now in many southern churches, but not as many as he should. And definitely the evangelical powers-that-be want nothing to do with him.

the evangelicals are propping Santorum up. they are blind and taken in by his so-called spiritual purity.

I believe romney is taking the weekend off, no scheduled events. Let me know if you’ve heard otherwise. If this is ture his internal polling must show it’s a lost cause. And rassmusen is simply on his payro.

Not one, and today at the rally, he was respectful of both his opponents, even tho they don’t agree on issues

Everytime he spouts off some silly sh!t like this it remind me of the kid we used to pants in the main hall of the middle school.

It just makes you want to slap him like a girl.

There’s the newt voter. Bullying at school and slapping girls.

The Southeast corner of Alabama is all American and a pretty rural area of the country. Fort Rucker is nearby as is the Gulf’s Gold Coast. It is NOT snotty 5th Avenue New York, New York. The All Americans probably took it as he meant it. They spared him an hour or so of their time to listen to him. That was nice of them and he appreciated it.

“I wish all the derogatory comments about Mr. Newt would just stop. I do not like Romney or Santorum for all the right reasons. Mr. Newt is trying very hard to be positive in his speeches, and his ads. Why is it that after Santorum wins a caucus, he comes out disparaging Mr. Newt.”

I think all this negativity displayed by Romney and Santorum will backfire. The Republican voters are getting sick and tired of it. It is very possible that the unbound delegates will turn against them at the Convention.

This is the most dirty campaign I’ve ever seen; and Mitt started it; now Rick does exactly the same with less money. These scumbags simply don’t deserve the office of president.

In my town everyone goes to Wallmart. It’s like the Px on an Army post.

Same thing in a lot of smaller Pennsylvania towns. Walmart is the only major store and it's the shopping mecca, especially on Saturdays, the busiest day of the week. I should know, I used to work there. When I saw this thread I chuckled. I had no idea the line could be perceived in a negative way. It was just a simple joke saying that the most crowded location on the weekend was probably empty because Newt had everybody with him. The joke doesn't work if you say McDonald's was empty because they can't hold a big crowd. Of course once I moved to the urban suburbs I started meeting the snobs who would "never" shop at Walmart.

I so disagree. Again, I was at that Newt rally today, the hall was packed with overflow. People of all ages and I wouldn’t label any of them as “bully”. We can all disagree on who we support but I wouldn’t go so far as name calling their supporters (except for Paul fans, LOL)

But if you shop at Walmart...and are addicted to always telling and hearing the truth...this statement speaks to you.

Newt is a truth teller...and that is the truth!

That's about as condescending as the line "why don't you go deep-fry something" from the movie Sweet Home Alabama

It couldn't be an indictment of the current economic situation we're in.
Nah, it's anything but that. /sarcasm

“Not one, and today at the rally, he was respectful of both his opponents, even tho they don’t agree on issues”

Newt has never made personal attacks against Mitt, or Rick, he only discusses political issues and when he criticizes one of them, ALL the data used are factually TRUE. Like in this:

FYI I have to use a cart when I shop

Oh, I meant no offense or disrespect at all, really. None at all. In fact, I think it's a wonderful service to provide. It's just these guys are such physical specimens, just even using a handicap scooter must be breaking a couple rules right there. Plus the fact, they eat while they shop... good times in Georgia - God bless our military there's nothing like 'em.

What a great poster. Too bad Newt did not use it as a real ad. I will vote for him in Ca. primary, if he is stillin the race. Would not mind if he were the VP with either Rick or Mitt. Might actually help Mitt if he wins.

Unfortunately, your comment is exactly the type of shallow, stupid drivel I'm coming to expect from Santorum supporters.

Santorum is the self-righteous idiot running around attacking Newt for things that he did two decades ago, and for which he has since repented of, and his repentance was genuine, as far as we can humanly tell.

You Santorum people, on the other hand, are running around like blind little Pharisees, digging up this past because you think it helps your sanctimonious little pencil-neck of a candidate score a couple of percentage points.

People like you all are the reason why hardly anybody wants to get involved in the political process anymore.
