Mitt Romney might have drawn jeers for joking that he was embracing "grits" and saying "y'all" ahead of next Tuesday's Deep South primaries, but if his lead in Mississippi holds, Romney might be able to credit the Magnolia State with locking up his nomination.
The former Massachusetts governor was the choice of 35 percent of likely Mississippi primary voters according to the latest Rasmussen poll, released Friday, good enough for an 8-point lead over Rick Santorum. The former Pennsylvania senator earned the support of 27 percent of voters, tied with Newt Gingrich for second place. Ron Paul rounded out the field with 6 percent of those surveyed.
That's a surprising lead for Romney in a state he admitted was "a bit of an away game." An American Research Group, also released Friday, showed Gingrich with a 4-point lead over Romney, with Rick Santorum a full 15 points behind.

Newt will not win, and all the wishing otherwise will not help. Unless one or the other Newt or Rick drop out and support the other, Romney will be the winner, then the loser. But the biggest loser will be the people who will have given away the Republic.
If you had run a poll a year ago with all the nine original candidates in the running, I doubt any one of them would have exceeded 5%, maybe we should think about that.

Probably. The plain folk here do NOT like smarmy Bishop Willard’s personality or his record. However, there are a lot of smarmy cuff shooter and pompadour types here who want to be on what is perceived as a winning team, no matter what team that might be. Remember the intellectual brilliance, conservative commitment and unflinching courage of Trent Lott? Neither do I. Those types, and there are more than a few, will opt for the machine favorite because it is the machine favorite. It could be Romney, Himmler, Bozo the Clown or Elegabalus - but the machine favorite will be their boy.

There’s nothing clueless about backing conservatives 2-to-1 over Mitt. There’s no way for the voters to know which one of the two similar candidates they should vote for. Same difference if you cloned Newt and had a Newt 1 and Newt 2 running against Romney. They’ll split the vote. Doesn’t matter though, MS is proportional so Romney gets the same amount of delegates either way. It’s too late for Romney or Santorum to get a majority of delegates without a convention floor fight so the only way this could hurt one of them is if the other one breaks conservative ranks and teams up with Mitt...and we know Newt will never do that at least.
CORRECTION: I meant it’s too late or NEWT or Santorum to get a majority before the convention. Romney has maybe a 50/50 chance at it, but unless trends change he’ll be close enough for Ron Paul’s delegates to put Romney over the top.

The romney trolls are all over FR today. Romney has a smear campaign on google. Some of it is so filthy. Now people can clearly see that mormons are not the “nice” people we thought they were. After this primary, the mormon church has been exposed for the cult it is.
I don’t think so. The smart people of the South know that you don’t become governor of Massachusetts by being conservative.
That was my point Jedi, all the work that has gone into informing voters of who Romney truly is and yet, a poll like this pops up...c’mon, people are pouring their everything into getting people up to speed and therefore, said people should not be this far behind!
Aww forget it, it was line used in our local elections here and I found it quite funny! You work your tail off to show people the truth and yet they still vote with their eyes closed.

Romney leading by 8 points in Mississippi???? You’ve got to be kidding me..... Well, if RINO-Rom wins Alabama and/or Mississippi; turn out the lights, the Party’s over. We’ll be stuck having to choose between the Moderate Mormon or the Marxist Muslim.
I implore both Rick and Newt to look closely at an alternative game plan or we’re screwed.

While I think their doctrine is wacked, I’ve always thought that Mormons were honorable people. Mitt Romney has changed that. Bishop Romney is a scum bag.
All that’s necessary is that Newt and Rick combined keep Myth from getting to 1144.
