GOP's Santorum draws tea party ire in Kansas

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum hoped to lock down a victory in Kansas' GOP caucuses with two rallies Friday but faced grumbling from tea party activists for skipping their big rally in the state's largest city.................

Some tea party members were frustrated that Santorum wouldn't attend their rally. They spent $25,000 to rent the Century II arena in downtown Topeka and expected 1,000 to 3,000 people to attend.

"It seems like it is counterproductive to show up for an event that is going to have 300 people in an airplane hangar instead (of) 3,000 people in a nice setting where you can actually contact and really maybe sway somebody," said Craig Gabel, the president of Kansas For Liberty, which organized the Wichita event.

Gabel said Santorum skipping the gathering was a sign of tension between tea party members and Kansas GOP officials. He suggested the GOP had discouraged Santorum from attending. Santorum state coordinator Greg Cromer said it was a scheduling issue, and that tea party leaders were informed early..........................

Is this really the best you can do in your continuing campaign to trash Santorum?

“...but faced grumbling from tea party activists for skipping their big rally in the state’s largest city.................

I live in Topeka; and, I have never heard of the Century II Arena, which it turns out is in Wichita. And, Topeka is not the largest city in the state...once again its Wichita.

If the media gets it wrong on the small details, think about all the big stuff that they miss. Every time I have seen a news article, where I was involved, or had immediate knowledge of the story, the media has screwed up something - names, titles, places. Every single time.

BTW, Google has already corrected the story.

Rick

“I’ve been asked to attend a Tea Party rally. What should I do?”

Establishment

“Take one for the team.”

Rick

“OK.”

*The above conversation may or may not have occurred. I’m guessing it did.

My vote is for Santorum. The state has no other candidate left to vote for. Ron Paul is a loser. Newt Gingrich pulled out. And Myth is unelectable. You do the math and see why I will wholeheartedly support Rick Santorum.

You again miss the point, don’t you?

This is Rick’s MO.

If the Establishment calls him “frog”, he has always jumped on que.

He did it again here and will always do it again. Always has and always will.

This is just one more example. He trades away the work and $25,000 cash coughted up to yield an expected 3000, for a plane hangar and 300.

Why? Because the party told him to. LOL!!

Now the real yield becomes another LEAD HOLE in SHOT FOOT, dutifully taken for the Establishment.

I guess if they asked him, he agreed, they book a hall that holds 3000 people, and then he decides not to show, after people put out their time and MONEY for him, the lack of character just kinda shines on through

LOL! That's funny! It reminds me of the Official (And original) Santorum Song, “Game On!”.

What's next the Reverend Ricky coming out with a new theme phrase; “Going Rogue!” or “You Betcha!”?

It’s Santorum or Bust. Gingrich might be over if he can’t win Alabama or Mississippi. As of now, he is a non factor, here in Kansas. Factas are thought to swallow but it is a fact.

Wow.

That explains it. It’s Wichita and not Topeka, is all you have to clarify?

How does that change the story that Rick shoots foot off to line up with the Establishment RINOS.

Every. Single. Time.

Rick goes Romney in the end. Watch.

Where’s Newt??? Oh that’s right skipping another state he would have gotten creamed in. So he says, well I will just stay out of it so my forth placement won’t look so genuine. If Newt loses this nomination, it will be because he skipped most of the primaries/caucuses.

Unlike king RINO John McCain, Rick "the moral conservative" Santorum voted to confirm Sonya Sotomayor to the 2nd Circuit and now she sits on the Supreme Court as Obama's first choice.

Scraping the bottom of the barrel? NO. That's his record on judges.

In opposition to the wild spending Bush White House, Santorum proposed and voted for over a half-billion dollars extra for Amtrak over and above the $900 million budget. So proud as a "fiscal conservative" as Santorum he cut a campaign TV ad touting this Amtrak giveaway.

Scraping the bottom of the barrel? NO. That's his record on funding.

As the number three Republican in the Senate, Santorum spearheaded "The K Street Project" with then House Majority Leader, now felon, Tom DeLay. The project grew ties between the GOP, lobbyists and lobbying firms. This is part of the swamp the Tea Party wants to drain.

Scraping the bottom of the barrel? NO. That's his record on institutionalizing crony capitalism.

With his record, is it a surprise he'd be circumspect about Tea Party organizations where his protective smoke screen of moralizing social policy is less relevant to the crowd's core issues?

Santorum is more Blue Dog or even Bush-lite "compassionate" than "constitutional" conservative.

.....Newt Gingrich pulled out. .....

Newt needed to marshal his resources.

He has a Kansas team

And a great ground game with many coordinators in the Districts

The GOP is no longer your grandmother’s GOP, cw. How often I have said that the Establishment owns both parties, and they like direction the country is being taken..,..straight toward The New World Order, clocking 200 miles per hour! That Santorum listened to them rather than honoring the conservatives in the Tea Party may well have been his death knell in this campaign. Pretty sad, for he has been saying all the right things, and has shown the aggressiveness needed to win. But one way or another, no conservative will be the nominee in 2012 anymore than he was in 2008! Dear God have mercy upon us! .....if only Duncan L. Hunter or Herman Cain......
