WASHINGTON The White House abruptly announced Monday that it had scuttled plans to hold the upcoming G-8 economic summit in Chicago, and would instead host world leaders at the presidential retreat at Camp David in Maryland.
....snip.....
The White House said the G-8 summit would take place May 18-19.
The White House announced plans last summer to hold both summits back-to-back in Chicago, giving the president a high-profile opportunity to tout his foreign policy and diplomatic credentials on his home turf in an election year.
The idea of moving the G-8 to Camp David was raised to the president a few weeks ago, a senior administration official said, adding that the president was intrigued by the novelty of the idea and asked staff whether they could pull off the change.
The official who spoke on condition of anonymity about internal White House thinking.
Adding to the curious nature of the White House announcement was the fact that Obama rarely spends time at his presidential retreat. And unlike many of his predecessors, Obama has never hosted a world leader at Camp David.

G-8’s are usually tight as a drum.
” G-8s are usually tight as a drum. “
This is another ‘Obama Patented Preemptive Surrender’ — it tacitly admits that, unlike other world leaders and previous Presidents, Zero feels unable, or unwilling, to take the necessary steps to control the inevitable demonstrations (AKA mobs)...
No mystery here, the Occupy people were set to bring their unwashed from all over the country to Chicago. Obama didn’t want video of headbusting cops repeatedly occupying the skulls of the occupiers, so he moved the summit.
Such as when W. hosted the G-8 Summit at Sea Island, Georgia? C’mon.
King Barry needs to be closer to his favorite golf course.
Maybe he is afraid of the Daley machine? I think the Dems would like to unload Obama but they can’t figure out a way to do so.
Full campaign mode. Things are far more serious for Obama than the MSM is letting on. They can’t let the genie out of the bottle, can’t risk people seeing the seething level of hatred for this man and what he does, from either side.
No, until the election, count on the Obama campaign and the MSM doing everything they can to keep the truth under cover.
No doubt, and protests in the Maryland woods aren’t going to be feasible, but will the Occupy crowd just stay home in mom’s basement for the summit, or move the protests to the National Mall?
I agree and actually think it was a good move.. The occutwits and usual suspect protestor/activists are planning to “party like it’s 1968”.
This summer will keep all of us on our toes.
It’s a sad state of affairs when people in the media put obama ahead of the futures of their very own children and grandchildren.

C'mon boss we got golf here. Deep dish Pizza too. Plus Tony Rezko.
I would suggest fear is the motivation. There is fear of disruption and possibly worse.
The event may occur during the new war. The moonbats might be in full attack mode. Protection was determined to be not possible
OK then. How about BlueStateBlues point in post #5?
H.R. 347 Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011,
The bill makes it a felony to disrupt or protest at any place or event attended by any person with secret service protection.
Now the feds have control.
Actually, Camp David is a perfect place for a summit—for one thing, we don’t have to deal with the distractions of protesters regardless of political persuasion (the press, of course, will have a big presence there). There has been many high-profile international summits at Camp David, and they are well-equipped to handle the G-8 summit.
I wondered if something coming down the pipes...a war or another deep economic “dump” might explain the move.
Oh I’ll bet Rham isn’t very happy!
I wondered about campaign mode...wouldn’t look so hot for Obama with a bunch of protestors out of control.
Camp David is “his” retreat? I guess that’s another thing “we, the people” have had taken away from us.
IMO, the move is to avoid a chicago convention replay of 68 wherein the dem supportors were front and center on live TV every night causing a huge uproar which helped them lose the 68 election.
My second thought is from Camp David, His Excellency will be able to judiciously let out tidbits favorable to his negotiation actions. In the past 3 years, he has gone from a novelty to the Euros et al to someone they just about all loathe. The sessions with with the empty suit, the tax cheat, and Bernaki the bank shill is not something Oturd’s handlers want anyone to get a glimpse of especially when the subject of removing the dollar from its centerpiece in world currencies comes up.
So what?

That was where Eleanor Clift had sex with Bill Clinton on the concrete sidewalk
I agree that probably all of our hosted international summits of this type should be hosted at Camp David...depending on crowds and the size of the delegations and what not. However could they handle the large staff sizes that tend to be involved with these summits(sometimes hundreds)? Granted, a smaller controlled intimate setting which necessarily limits staff numbers might be desired by these thugs. Certain private communications could be monitored for example.
The G8’s however tend to lend a bit of pizzazz to the aura of the host cities, protests notwithstanding, and from the article’s context, it appears Chicago’s pols were looking forward to any boost Chicago could gain from hosting the summit. The Olympics debacle was a disaster for them and Obama failed them big time!
I hope the G8 invitees all say “It’s Chicago or , He— No, we don’t go!”
Camp David is the traditional private presidential retreat, a much more sensitive area security wise, though high level meetings and summits can be conducted there. The article also mentions that it is an unusual break in Obama’s procedures to have ever hoasted foriegn officials there. These folks do nothing without political and psychological calculation behind it all so a break from procedure is unusual and this type of point being punctuated from the leftist media is also somewhat unusual!
Additional comments or analysis anyone?
And it is an unusual break in Obama's procedures, but not that unusual (in my opinion).
On the other hand, the regular ole street cop in Chicago is happier than hell! They have enough on their hands already playing social working, chasing down some guy walking his Collie off a leash, and Taxi driver (yes, honest). Oh, and fighting crime when they have time.
And I do mean 'when they have time'. They're so undermanned on the streets now (thanks to Daley) that when a beat cop gets an assignment (crime), many many times they have to tell dispatch "Okay squad, put it in my box". That means I'm already working on something and will get to it when I can get to it.
Honest to God I wouldn't be a Chicago Cop for $250K per year. And they're lucky if they get the $50K when, or if, they make Sarge! (the test is racist ya know)
I listen to the CPD Radio Calls through an Internet Scanner, like right now.
It's City Wide for all Districts and Beats and man-oh-man, the scum never sleeps.
They had some summit here is Pittsburgh a few years back, and it was vile what they did. They fenced in all of downtown, and you had to show ID to go in. Military vehicles all over. It looked like a futuristic/apocalyptic movie set. It was VERY disturbing.
No protests at Camp David.
You nailed it.
A very controlled enviroment......>>>>>>>>>>>
LOL. Few people yet realize that Obama is a genuine fascist, yes, a nationalist socialist with jack boots.

No offense but have you ever seen Camp David? Walked the grounds, walked the halls of the house, shown the tour?
I think Camp David was taken away from you the day construction began on it.
Appearances have to be maintained. Can’t have the rabble destroying that now, can we.
This thing should never be held in any sort of populated area. It draws too many dangerous freaks, and when Pittsburgh hosted it cost our local economy billions of dollars in lost business and wages.
