Report: Former Maine governor to run for Sen. Snowe's seat
The Hill ^ | 3/5/2011 | Josh Lederman

Former Maine Gov. Angus King — an independent — will announce a run for retiring Sen. Olympia Snowe's (R-Maine) seat in the Senate. Two sources close to King told the Kennebec Journal he would announce his campaign Monday night. King did not respond to messages seeking confirmation. A popular two-term governor and professor at Bowdoin College, King has a history of working with both parties and a demonstrated appeal to the state's large swath of independent voters. About 390,000 registered voters in Maine belong to neither major party — more than are registered as either Democrats or Republicans.

This is good news.

King will run as an independent, and this now may even turn into a 4 man race.

Ultra-socialist Chellie Pingree has announced for the Dem nomination, so she's giving up her safe 1st district seat. Her husband is a big dem wall street donor, and now part owner of the Portland Press Herald rag, but Pingree is absolutely hated north of Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME.

With the possibility that neo-Dem-turned-independent Eliot Cutler may get in, the Republicans now have an excellent shot at retaining Snowe's seat.

Let's see who the Pubbies nominate.

Last year, Cutler ran as an independent, and strong conservative Paul Lepage wound up winning, and doing a great job as Governor.

will announce a run for retiring Sen. Olympia Snowe's (R-Maine)

She was a Republican? Really?

Well, she can be the RINO placeholder picture until Romney's picture gets pasted as the permanent poster child.

It sounds like it is almost inevitable that whoever (with the exception of the scumbag communist rat) wins the seat will be an improvement over Snowe.

Maine is an interesting place, politically. We have relatives in Auburn, Brunswick, and Hebron, and whenever we go up to visit I try to read some newspapers and pay attention to the political / election news on TV. I always end up confused. Things seem reversed.

Our relatives do refer to those people south of Maine as “massholes”, though.

Ahhh!
The blessed Independents!

Those who lack the courage to admit that they are Progressives.

“Independent” is yankee-talk for communist.

Snowe undoubtedly was assuming her place would be filled by a lib rat - and that gave her peace of mind. What sweet justice it would be if a true Conservative actually wins!

“Independent” is yankee-talk for communist.

Wrong.

I live in Maine. I moved from one town to another in the summer of 2006. I had to re-register to vote, and I declined to state a party affiliation. At that point, I had enough of the amnesty (”see you at the signing”) and “compassionate conservative” B.S. of George W. Bush, a man I voted for in 2000 and 2004. Plus the weakness of the GOP on Capitol Hill.

I voted for Sarah Palin in 2008....there was a white-haired guy from Arizona at the top of the ticket, but I was really voting for the conservative lady from the Great White North.

I voted for the GOP TEA Party guy for governor in 2010, Paul LePage. He won. And I always vote for the GOP candidate running for Congress, and GOP for the statewide races.

Sean Hannity always mentions that in New York State, one can register as a conservative, which is how he registers. We don’t have that option in Maine.

She was at least 40% "conservative" on average across a range of ratings. Compare her to Vermont's Senators at 7% each.

I'll take 40% over 7%, thank you very much.

It is good news, and let’s hope that pantywaiste Kevin “A little too good to serve in the Military” Raye and his abortion enthusiast wife are not part of the GOP plan for holding this seat.
