Newt Gingrich will challenge his rivals for the GOP presidential nomination to a debate next week, the former House speaker said Monday.
Gingrich said he expects to extend the invitation Tuesday for a forum in Mississippi or Alabama, where voters head to the polls on March 13.
"I think we owe it to the people of Mississippi and Alabama to have a debate," Gingrich said on Fox News. "I think that frankly it's to everybody's advantage to have a debate."
He also used the impending invitation to single out Romney, the current Republican frontrunner.
"I don't think Romney can just hide behind millions of dollars of paid ads," Gingrich said. "He's got to come out in the open."

Little Ricky and Mittens are scared and neither one of them will debate him. They cancelled the debates that had already been scheduled, and I doubt that either one of these dweebs will accept this challenge.
Gingrich has ideas. They don’t. Period.
Perhaps they could use a Conservative moderator, who might
ask pertinent questions about the issues, and not deflect everything away from our failed pResident and his failed policies.
Don’t know whether I could go 10k bet, but I’m betting that the others won’t be able to make it. Very nice strategy Newt, expose their gutlessness and then frame the scenario to Obama as well.
MSM question #1 - “Why, Newt, do the people in your party slander innocent young college girls as ‘SLUTS’....?!”
MSM question #2 - “Why do all of you hate condoms and birth control pills, something ALL Americans worry about every day...?!”
MSM question #3 - “Why, Rick, do you hate alternative energy...?!”
felt the same as you until the last debate where Santourm was really shown to who he was and how he voted so I say get these debates going.
Very telling that last debate and I just can’t see Santorum or Romney doing another debate due to how badly they both looked last time and they’ve already ducked out of one.
Not good if they want to face the sweet talking B/S of obama
Hannity volunteered to moderate.
Did you live in Japan at one time?
If it was up to Romney, he’d have no debates and no interviews and just ask America to elect him based on carefully crafted dishonest negative ads and his “record” which he can’t ever give any specifics on.
Santorum stupidly cancelled the debates thinking that his fleeting surge would last forever. Now last weekend when he could have used one to try to rebound from his disastrous Arizona performance and constant fumbling the ball on the campaign trail he had nothing lined up. Just more evidence the guy is a lightweight amateur when it comes to every single aspect of campaigning, planning, strategy, etc. For that reason he’s probably proven himself to be less electable than Romney.
These aren't debates, they're a media circus and Republicans are being presented as the clown act.
Gingrich...get over it and STFU. Oh yes, Ron Paul that goes for you too. Santorum, if you lose big tonight follow the same advice.
All Newt has to offer is endless debating. No one cares anymore. The ratings on the last debates were terrible. No one cares to hear anymore of the candidates taking questions from a hostile media.
If Newt couldn’t bail his campaign out of the toilet after 20 debates, a 21st and 22nd ain’t gonna do it. There is more to this election than these worn out events. We all know where the candidates stand and who they are.
I nominate "EL RUSHBO!!"
Perfect!
Hannity just told Newt he would be glad to moderate the debate! I hope he puts the other two candidates on the spot when they come on his program.
Actually Hannity has already volunteered to moderate. We understand why you don’t want debates (look at Santorum’s last performance!), but actually if you think about they may be good for him as they would give him an opportunity to reinvigorate his sinking campaign.
Go Newt!
They did have some debates co-sponsored with the WSJ and with one of those conservative think tanks, like Heritage Foundation. But I don’t understand why FOX News has a debate and then allows their liberal commentators like Juan Williams to ask questions but never their conservative guys like Hannity. Makes no sense.
Santorum and Romney will probably be busy campaigning.
There have already been 20 debates. What could they say that is new?
If Newt was half as good at schlong control as he was at debating, he’d already be the nominee.
It sounds like you are describing Newt here. He is the one not showing up in the polls anymore. All you guys have to stand on is Newts "Brilliant" debating. Guess what? When he was in that debate with no audience participation he bombed. The same types of debates that are always used in General Election debates. Going through the last minute polling, it is Milt and Rick going head to head. All Newt has is his own state. Big deal.
yes
The debates drew huge audiences.
Is the fear of debate a Santorum thing?
Excellent. :)
Romney 25.5%
SANTORUM 25.3% out of 500 likely voters, well within the margin of error of 4.5 percentage points.

Paul 13.5%
Gingrich 11%

Since when did conservatives want to end debates instead of seeing more of them.
Rush Limbaugh killed Gingrich just before Florida with the stupid meme that Gingrich was “anti-capitalist” because Gingrich actually asked Romney to be honest about the nature of his business (which was not automobile manufacturing, like his daddy’s business, but a rather dubious and publicly unpopular area of finance).
I think Gingrich was genuinely stunned by having the theoretical spokesperson of the right turn against him and support Romney, and even though Rush said a few days later that maybe he had overstated this, the damage was done. Also, Romney and Santorum had already carpeted Florida with their signs and most elderly people, who are a big bloc here, had already early-voted for Romney or Santorum because they wanted to vote for the person that they were told was going to be the winner.
Finally, the “moderators” asked Gingrich virtually no questions, and when they finally asked him one, Romney attacked and Gingrich told Romney that he wanted to discuss the issues and not attack other candidates. Then Romney launched into a completely bizarre off-the-wall attack on him that was not stopped by the moderators because they were obviously on the Romney side.
I repeat: neither Lil Ricky nor Mitty has any ideas. They are both big-government statists. Look at their track records.
The only way this would work is if Gingrich proposed a “round table” discussion moderated by an uncommitted conservative media personality like Rush Limbaugh.
To make things more interesting, give the candidates the questions ahead of time, and limit the discussion to a back and forth between the moderator and each candidate one at a time, with the limitation that questions and answers be limited to just the topic at hand.
No digressions, no contrasts with the other candidates, just “What will I do as president?”
I would propose some real hardball questions.
1) What parts of the federal government should be strongly reduced or eliminated?
2) What will you do to create energy independence for America?
3) With the cooperation of congress, what steps will you take to reduce the power of the “imperial presidency”?
4) What is your program to stop economic collapse?
5) What should be done about illegal aliens, both keeping them out of the US, and with those already here?
I wish they held a round table discussion with equal time given to all. Maybe with a short winded moderator. Or questions written and put in a bowl in the middle of the table and drawn out by a moderator. Each candidate has opportunity to answer the question.
Almost as ugly as Bambi and his family...please, get those slope-shouldered, intimidated looking boys out of their sweater vests, and get the girls into something that makes them look like female human beings.
This guy has no chance of winning anywhere outside of the tiny percentage of folks who are turning out for the GOP primaries. Wherever there is a large turnout, Gingrich wins.
Turkey shoots is an accurate description, if turkeys had a brain, they would not participate, since they are the target, and they are no good alive.
WOW!
500 people from the Washington times.......
Now there is cutting edge data for you.....yawn.....
“Hannity volunteered to moderate.”
That would be worse than the MSM. Instead of learning anything about the candidates, we would hear 2 hours of hannity interrupting, then pontificating.
No, but they are sure good with a fresh bottle of Chianti and some Fave Beans! FFFTTttttt.....ttttt.....ttttt....ttt!
I’m sure Huck would welcome a weekly round table format like the one two days ago with Rick, Newt, & Willard. But tweak it little as you mentioned.
Exactly, huge audiences, and all of those millions are the people who decide the republican primary, and with each change in the state of the primary, new eyes, new conservative primary voters were drawn into watch.
We conservatives cannot afford to cut off our chance to see our choices hash it out in debates, we need more, not less.
Psycho dude,
Google “Scientific Polling”.
I don’t know who was in charge of this debate “charlie foxtrot” but they should be included in the currently unemployed.
You sound like a liberal going after politician’s kids.
I bet he has no takers. They all know they can’t take him on and win.
No one is going to send Grandmaw back........remember that one, Newt wonked himself into a corner along with Perry. If he had left his answer short that would have been all there was to it, but he had to Pander to that great voting block thai Karl Rove convinced Bush was necessary. That cost us both Houses and ultimately the White House.
The only person that has been helped by all this infighting is Romney, so lighten up on the politics of destruction. The truth is we have a very split Conservative group and this infighting will likely lead to a Romney win in Ohio, then we will have lost any chance to defeat him.
Just stop it!
Guess you haven’t been paying much attention to polls lately. Rick has been sinking steadily since the debate in Michigan, and Newt is making a big surge in Tennessee. He will also do well in Ohio and Oklahoma. He will do well in Kansas on the 10th, and win Alabama and Mississippi on the 13th.
But enough of polls...let’s talk about committed delegates. Rick hasn’t won a primary yet, and the non committed delegates he won in caucuses are going to end up going elsewhere in the end. Even if he does win Ohio (which looks increasingly unlikely) he has delegate problems there. Ditto in Tennessee where a vote for Santorum is meaningless at this point. Congrats on the hollow “victories” you’ve won thus far.
Good luck tomorrow!
Hannity the fraud, the man is for the establishment, cannot mention any conservative social issues and his one week as a teen as a blue collar worker got too boring.
Hannity doesn’t want to disappoint his elitist cocktail Manhattan pals like Beckel, William,s, Colmes or the establishment like Perino, Rove etc
I’m guessing he still has those pals of his on his boring tedious show.
I know most don’t bother with Hannity on here now and have seen the light but it still stuns me how many sheep pout there think he’;s a conservative and actually add to his ratings on the radio or TV .
I don’t watch Hannity either, but he’d much better than John King or Wolf Blitzer.
At some stage, if this debating keeps up, someone might ask why Santorum and Romney both became pro-life only when they were preparing to run for office.
