"It would eliminate all gun laws," McCarthy said. "This issue is very, very extreme. This proposal is not a mainstream proposal."
.......
It's a mistrust of the courts, however, that fueled much of the support for the constitutional amendment.
"For far too long we've seen judicial abuse of our Second Amendment rights," said Rep. Matt Windschitl, R-Missouri Valley.

They don’t have to win, they just have to look like they’re trying. It appeases the gun haters and keeps the donations flowing.
“For far too long we’ve seen judicial abuse of our Second Amendment rights,”
It seems to me that without the willing conspiracy from the legislative and executive branches that the abuse couldn’t take place. Nice try though.
"It would eliminate all gun laws," McCarthy said. "This issue is very, very extreme. This proposal is not a mainstream proposal." ... One measure would allow people to use deadly force if threatened.
Even here in (not so) Gun Friendly IL, we can use deadly force if 'Life and or Property' is threatened. But in Iowa you can't??
Now that's "Extreme"!
We also have a State Law that overrides any local 'home rule' city/village/town ordinance so that you can use an 'unregistered handgun' without fear of arrest or fine to protect you and family in your home. This passed almost unanimously and at light speed after a Wilmette Homeowner capped a career criminal Home Invader with his 'unregistered' .38 S&W. And to my surprise I found a while back (6 months?) that IL was also one of the first states with a 'Castle Doctrine Law' [Though it isn't actually called that but it works the same.].
We just can't 'legally carry' a loaded/concealed weapon.
Our problem is the rabidly anti gun Chicago Pols like Daley and Rahm with their stooges in Cook County. They make the whole state look bad.
