Santorum: I'll beat Romney if Gingrich drops out
The Examiner ^ | March 4th, 2012 | Joel Gehrke

Posted on 03/04/2012 12:20:40 PM PST by Mariner

Rick Santorum indicated that Newt Gingrich should drop out of the presidential race, arguing -- as Gingrich did during his surge -- that splitting the "anti-Romney" vote helped Mitt Romney win the Michigan primary and Washington caucuses and contributes to his overall success so far.

"It's always harder when you've got to conservative running in the race as we have seen in Washington and we've seen in other states," Santorum said on Fox News Sunday. "We have the anti-Romney vote, if you will. Both Gingrich and I are slugging away."

Santorum stopped short of calling for Gingrich to exit the race, but he noted that their combined support would defeat Romney. "In Michigan, we would have won easily if those two votes had been combined," he told Chris Wallace.

He also made clear that he believes Gingrich will have to drop out, eventually. "And, you know, eventually hopefully the race will settle out and we'll go one on one," Santorum said. "And once that happens, we feel very comfortable we're going to win this thing."

Why doesn’t anyone ask why ROMNEY doesn’t get out?

The fix was in from the start.

Duck because you are supposed to think that Newt or Rick has a chance. Admit it you been eating smart pills?

Newt can say the same thing about Rick.

In fact he did already, or don't you recall? By the way the headline was a lie, Rick did not say that, they extrapolated, then bent it a little.

Gingrich or Romney either one could win, I don’t see how Santorum could. We need to somehow or other get Santorum out of the race.

The problem is I don’t want Santorum any more than I want Romney.

Maybe, maybe not but even though I support Santorum I’ll give the same aanswer as when Newt wanted Santorum to drop out. Let the voters decide.

The fact of the matter is, look it up, but when it comes to the 14 or so years of the existence of FREE REPUBLIC, there is or has been historically a much more lengthy, intense, deep and extended Anti New Gingrich sentiment here (except in the last two months) than there ever was in opposition to Fmr. Sen. Rick Santorum. That's just the plain facts. It is not over philosophy but only narrowly favoring one's candidate. I in fact could support any of the remaining four except Romney in the head to head face off with Obama. And I do not consider Newt Gingrich as the end of the world. I think people ought to just step back, take a breather, dial back the caffeine, and realize that Santorum is a good man, with good, appropriate conservative lobby organization rankings and scorings, and never until recently received must bitternness nor criticism if not outright hate and wrath here on Free Republic except perhaps his Spector over Toomey endorsement which I will grant. Do I stand to be corrected on this? I could easily "bump" and revive thread after thread absolutely EXCORIATING Speaker Gingrich here on Free Republic with Freeper after Freeper chiming in. They are all archived. But what would be the point now?

"Washington gave Romney more momentum"

Correction. The NEWS MEDIA ENGINEERED ANTI CONSERVATIVE NARRATIVE gave Romney more momentum.

How we conservatives can hate and attack the Leftist MSM, and then yet carry their water and perpetuate their management of reality, is beyond me at times.

Bump to what you said, Yaelle. ;-) Hang in there. A lot of this is just noisy QRM anyways. Don’t pay it no never mind.

“But what would be the point now?”

It would be pointless.

Newt will have my support until he either wins or tells me he no longer desires my support.

Ditto that.

I am completely revolted by Santorum’s holier-than-thou schtick. I don’t need another mommy telling me what is right or wrong, for I know the difference.

Furthermore, I don’t want a big government or it’s ability to control the populace. Something Santorum is, in his own words, supportive of.

He’s really just a nosy little church-lady meddling in the business of people that didn’t ask for the help. (Pinging SNL and Dana Carvey as an example.)

If Santorum is the candidate, I think the Dems will actually use the school district case against him.

When Santorum was living in Virginia (because he was a Senator) he falsely claimed an address in Pennsylvania that was a house that belonged to him, near his parents’ house, but where he had never lived or possibly lived for only a few months after he was married. At any rate, he didn’t live there when he got these home-schooling distance learning internet courses from that school district.

A local Dem activist found out about this and sued, and the State of Pennsylvania settled out of court and paid $50,000 for Rick Santorum’s “home schooling” lessons.

This may sound trivial, but it shows up a lot of things about Santorum. For one thing, why did he lie? If he really wanted to “home school,” there are other ways of doing this, and he obviously did this to save money.

And I guess that’s why he didn’t pay the $50,000 fine himself but left it to the taxpayers.

Also, if he’s such a great Catholic, why didn’t he send his kids to Catholic school or get one of the on-line Catholic homeschooling programs (where the kids have to be tested by their states, but will certainly be able to pass those tests)? If he objects to public school education, why have them educated by the State of Pennsylvania using the state curriculum?

I think this will blow up big and the Dems are just holding it. And, btw, someone who defended him did so by saying that as a Senator, he had a “right” to special treatment. That’s not going to fly.

Good to see you fell for the Liberal Media negative narrative or Santorum, and character assassination.

So, you prefer a man with no morals, or one with no inclination to stand up on moral issues in a public sense, for our tattered Republic this 2012? Certainly we are not better off culturally, ethically, morally as a society four years out, or have things become more moral in your mind? (Gay marriage spreading from state to state is one of the leading moral indicators (LMI'S) that I use. Images blasted around the country of USMC personnel returning from deployment locked in a deep kiss with a "lover" of the same sex, at the aircraft hanger? Great going here.

LMAO....great comeback! However, I would rather Romney drop out, but he can’t (ego won’t let him), and won’t (because the Morman in him won’t), until Mr. Newt pummels his ass!

GO MR. NEWT!

Know you were not asking me, but:

No Sir. I want someone who can fight every dirty trick in the left’s playbook and win. Someone who promotes American exceptionalism at every opportunity. Someone who can inspire even this tired old hack.

Sen. Santorum is a decent man. I always say that and I mean it. He lives his faith and stayed mostly conservative in a rust belt, union state. He gets my respect, and those who insultingly call him Little Ricky - or worse - bother me immensely.

Speaker Gingrich is there to kick America hard in the backside and get it back on course. He has the plans - some worked on for a decade or more, the ability to articulate what is needed and how to do it, and the drive to “get ‘er done.” The one who is not waiting for the nomination to start providing solutions, but who provides them right now, or has talented people working on them.

I am going to accept your “no morals” comment as a straight up assessment. Do you want a moral paragon, or someone who kicks backside and takes names? Are you willing to dismiss the possibility of honest contrition?

It is easy to avoid temptation if no one tempts you, after all.

For me it is no contest.

For you, likewise. I can respect that.

Side note - saw you had a couple of quakes. All OK with you and yours?

FReegards!

Yep, we get quakes all the time here in Tokyo, some of them very disturbing. But this is nothing like March, April, May timeframe of last year, when we were getting at least two or three good perciptable ones in a day. It toughens you, I guess. It is not as bad as tough combat, but at times it can rank right up there! Thanks for axing!

Newt's already had his "Omaha Beach" trial-by-fire courtsey of Willard's 65:1 negative ad blitz in Florida ...

He survived ...

Notice how Little Ricky and Willard "fear" a debate with Newt Gingrich ?

Hell, for that matter, so does the Liberal Media ...

They all "fear" Newt Gingrich ... like the Nazis feared Patton ...

And all for good reason ... President Newt Gingrich will ROCK THIS NATION ....
