Rick Santorum acknowledges he may have misstated Barack Obama’s position on education and training

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum acknowledged today that he may have misstated President Obama’s position on education when he called Obama a snob for saying he “wants everyone in America to go to college.”

In fact, Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace pointed out that Obama actually asked every American to commit to a year of higher education – which could include community college, vocational training, or an apprenticeship. That is similar to what Santorum has said he supports.

Santorum, on Fox News, said he “read some columns where at least it was characterized that the president said we should go to four-year colleges.” “If it was in error, then I agree with the president that we should have options for people to go to a variety of different training options for them,” Santorum said.

Obama's quote: "Obama: “And so tonight, I ask every American to commit to at least one year or more of higher education or career training. This can be community college or a four-year school; vocational training or an apprenticeship. But whatever the training may be, every American will need to get more than a high school diploma. And dropping out of high school is no longer an option. It’s not just quitting on yourself, it’s quitting on your country — and this country needs and values the talents of every American.” ...

On the stump Santorum has mischaracterize what Obama said to pander and now it is coming back to bite him.

I will be the first one to expose and recoil at the Left and their Higher Education bastions of liberal thought, their ruinous generational brain-washing our youth, along with their "studies" that the Left uses to drive government regulation overreach and societal degradation. But Santorum play the game of quote cherry picking to demagogue an issue that needs to be addressed but now that opportunity has been hurt.

Santorum's College Lesson "Rick Santorum is stretching his criticism of President Obama's advocacy of universal college attendance into a broader attack on college itself. Santorum has three college degrees, which provides a good indication of how seriously one should take his assault on what he is labeling as Obama's elitism. As with so many of Santorum's statements, this criticism contains a grain of perception smothered in reactionary dogma...."

Yeah, I just saw Chris Wallace take Santorum apart big time. He also defended Obama. This election is over for me. Good luck with a 2nd Obama term Fox.

I saw the interview, and boy, that was a disaster for Santorum. It was as if he was continually receiving jabs to the nose and falling back further with each. Wallace even brought up Santorum’s last several years of tax returns and pointed out that he gave only 1 to 2% to charity. Santorum countered that he has a special needs child, which is a good point, but he then weakly said that he “needed to do better”.

He should have asked Wallace how much he gave to Charity.

The media controls all. I’m sure if Wallace had had Romney on he would have interrogated him about the racism in the Book of Mormon. That would be sarcasm. It’s not a matter of reporting the truth, it’s just a matter of being selective in what truth you report. Newt had a good performance on Meet the Press, but he’s done anyway. I need to tune this whole thing out and turn to HGTV, enough of the Romney channel thanks.

If Rick cannot handle Chris Wallace than he is toast. The media will crucify him. Newt turns Chris Wallace and the media inside out. There is no way in hell Rick is ready for the Presidency. Give him 8 years as VP behind Newt then he will be ready. GO NEWT GO!

I wish it weren't so, but Gingrich will not be able to get the less conservative ABO vote back from Romney. What little of that Santorum is still holding onto will go back to Romney. He can get the more conservative voters from Santorum, but that won't be enough to pull him out. Gingrich's negatives are just too high now, and Santorum is joining him there. The media has shaped this all including “fair and balanced” FOX. You just can't beat the machine. Gingrich did have a good showing on Meet the Press, but he's been stamped as bomb thrower and he can't get out of it now.

Rick just isn’t smart enough to handle what would be thrown at him in the general election. He’s not battle scared enough. Rick is probably a real nice guy, BUT we need “True Grit Gingrich”. In the face of all opposition, Newt handles every thing that comes up very well.
