Watts, Cain to appear in Tulsa for Gingrich (Newt Coming to Oklahoma )
Tulsa World ^ | 3/3/2012 7:59 AM | RANDY KREHBIEL

Posted on 03/03/2012 11:28:09 AM PST by Red Steel

They are coming Monday on behalf of the presidential hopeful.

mer Oklahoma Congressman J.C. Watts and former presidential candidate Herman Cain will appear Monday in Tulsa on behalf of Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich.

Watts and Cain will be at Joe Momma's Pizza, 112 S. Elgin Ave., at 11 a.m.

The restaurant is owned by Republican City Councilor Blake Ewing, but Ewing said he had no role in scheduling the event and does not endorse Gingrich.

Ewing said the event was scheduled by the state Republican Party, which wanted Cain - the former head of Godfather's Pizza - to appear at a pizza restaurant.

Watts and Cain have acted as "surrogates" for Gingrich, the former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, on many occasions.

Watts served in the House during Gingrich's tenure, and Cain joined with Gingrich after dropping his own bid for the GOP presidential nomination.

Gingrich himself appeared in Tulsa and Oklahoma City last month and was third among Oklahoma Republicans in the most recent independent polling, trailing former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

That polling also showed that Oklahoma Republicans give Gingrich high marks for leadership and experience.

Gingrich led the same poll as recently as December.

On Friday, ABC News reported that Gingrich began a robocall attack on Santorum in Oklahoma and Tennessee. The report says the automated phone calls link Santorum to "union bosses."

Watts is a former University of Oklahoma quarterback who became the first black Oklahoman elected to statewide office - the Corporation Commission - in 1990. He was elected to Congress in 1994 and, unlike contemporaries Tom Coburn and Steve Largent, remained a Gingrich ally through the revolt that ultimately toppled the Georgian from the speaker's chair.

Watts left Congress in 2003 and has been active as a businessman and lobbyist since.

Cain appeared at a state party fundraiser in Oklahoma City in December, shortly after he dropped out of the presidential race.

Watts and Gingrich will make two Oklahoma City-area appearances Monday afternoon, at 1:30 p.m. at Drill Right Technology and at 3 p.m. at Reed Center in Midwest City.

C’mon Newt.

We need you - now more than eva.

I’ll certainly enjoy voting FOR you [not “against” someone]

Keep bringing it!

Wow, that’s great that Newt will be in OKC Monday! I need an excuse anyway to go see my son that lives in Norman. Only problem is that I’m 5 hours away, but seriously thinking about it.

Just read on a tea party site that Newt’s staffer in Tennessee quit and moved to Santorum’s camp and took 3 workers with him.

Phone bank in TN and OK, it is closer than you might think and the delegates are proportional! Let's work to get Newt as many delegates as we can on Tuesday!! Polls are hard to come by in OK but this is one that I found: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/03/03/oklahoma-poll-santorum-up-by-double-digits/ Let's see if we can't help move him up to 2nd. PublicPolicyPolling ‏tweeting today: "Surprise of the day- Tennessee looking much more competitive. Santorum still up but Mitt and Newt within about 5-7 pts Newt up big in Georgia. Kinda wish we'd polled Oklahoma instead. Romney with a healthy lead for 2nd over Santorum so far" Newt has a 20 point lead in GA! (can you say 76 delegates! Well, I don't know if he will get all of them but we will see. And they say Ohio is the prize on Tuesday, pfft...) GO NEWT!!

You can do a lot of things for Newt in the next 72 hours, till Super T - here’s the latest update from the campaign calling all hands on deck for the national phone banks... I think Tennessee and Ohio and OK are worthy of a great effort...

If you can make ten calls the next 3 days each (that’s about 1 hr of your time), and get 2-3 others, and they get 2-3 others, and so on and so on... it all adds up! (PS for lots of people, who thought they’d hate it, the phone calling gets to be very fun and addictive)

From Newt 2012:

Field and Phone Leaders, CALLING ALL HANDS ON DECK!!

Our national phone team has successfully called through the original 18,000 volunteer sign-ups. This has resulted in a refined list of volunteer prospects for all 50 states. In 3 weeks our national call team has increased by 300%, or 50 new people per week.

Our increased call capacity will help us now begin to make calls into “Super Tuesday” states or those close by that can assist and or deploy to active states.

... YOU CAN NOW CHOOSE THE STATE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO CALL

http://newtsnetwork.com/ (click Make the CAll in upper right hand corner)

NOTE: The list filters itself by time zones. It will not show you California at 10am Eastern Time because that is 7am Pacific Time and too early to call there. Once a state’s call list opens up the state name will be added to the dropdown list for you to call. (And in the reverse, Eastern Time Zones will be removed from the list as the night wears on.)

This new reality will enable us to be highly flexible in how we operate and target prospects for GOTV and or volunteer recruitment.

Please disseminate this information to your call teams and volunteer lists.
Thank you

NEWT’S SUNDAY SCHEDULE THIS WEEKEND:

CNN, State of the Union, 9:00am ET;
C-SPAN Washington Journal; 9:30Am
NBC- Meet the Press
ABC- This Week
CBS- Face the Nation

HAVE A GREAT NEWT WEEKEND!!!!

Surprise of the day- Tennessee looking much more competitive. Santorum still up but Mitt and Newt within about 5-7 pts Newt up big in Georgia. Kinda wish we'd polled Oklahoma instead.

No surprise to me. Newt is now running a fine tuned multi-state campaign. A few more days of campaigning and Newt will take another state or two away from his competition.

And you are right that it will be close. These polls usually lag a week behind in a fluid election like this one.

The campaign has just started reaching out to evangelicals seriously. They only have close to 500 so far, but they need ammunition, and some good thoughts to share with friends and fellow churchgoers, who are solidly Santorum, on their FB page..

I know for a fact there are some very solid Christians on this forum who support Newt, and many evangelicals find that unbelievable. If you are interested, please post something there that will speak to their faith and conscience about voting for Newt. I know some Santorum supporters can be overly self-righteous, but we have to try to talk straight to their hearts...

Newt is fine-tuning his campaign, and finally getting enough manpower to reach out to the edges, while starting to bulldoze the center of the battlefield.

If you can, Please try to help.
