Last year, Jordan Powers was just another student from Mr. Hooker's class. Now she's his live-in girlfriend.

James Hooker -- the 41-year-old married father who left his wife and kids for his 18-year-old-student -- might be the worst teacher ever. Last week, he resigned from his job at Enochs High School in Modesto, California over the scandal that's shaken up a community and pit one mom on a crusade to save her daughter from a man she calls a "master manipulator."

Doesn't the union have little plastic statues to award wonderful educators like this for such an occasion? Raise our taxes. . . Raise our taxes! lol

I've heard a good rule of thumb for minimum age of a girlfriend is "half your age plus 7". It seems to work over a surprisingly wide range, only breaking down for the elderly.

What's the purpose? To ensure that the wife becomes a widow down the road? Women do tend to outlive men by six or seven years, you know.

It won’t work out in the long run.

Not necessarily.

Here's a case where the teacher married his 15 year old student and they stayed married for almost 70 years, winning the Pulitzer Prize and multiple other honors for their joint writing.

I don’t think it helps the sanctity of marriage, by putting a girl, or young man, in a position of having been manipulated into marriage, and forcing them to have to live with that decision for the rest of their lives with no way out.

Edd is, of course, referring to Newt Gingrich who married his former high school geometry teacher. Many loons have blamed Newt for subsequently divorcing the teacher.

Let’s see how long he lasts hearing “ohmygod”, “like” and “awesome” 1,000 times (each) every day.

Oh, one other note: Why didn't this teacher just keep it on the side?

Dumb bastard.

Ahh.

I think Newt does deserve a slap for treating marriage as cavalier. But, as I recall, it was the Mrs that wanted out at the time, not Newt.

True story. A cop stopped and chatted a couple of suspicious characters in Emeryville, CA, across the Bay from the City. So, where are you staying, he asked? “In Frisco!” one of them replied. That was enough to check them out, find out there were wanted and arrest them. Nobody in the Bay Area says “Frisco”.

If you really had been from Modesto, you would have said “Motown”. We’d better check you out!

I work with teens. My wife and I have been transporting them to extracurricular events. Often, they provide vivid reminders about why, even as a teenaged boy I've never wanted to ride in a vehicle full of teenaged girls!

An adult male interested in teen girls is obviously mentally ill!

Any man over thirty interested in a lady in her early twenties obviously needs intense psychiatric care!

Maybe, but the ease of divorce contributes far more to the destruction of marriage because it makes people think less about the consequences of jumping into marriage. If this girl KNEW marriage was for life with no way out, maybe she would have second thoughts about entering into it with a guy like this.

I find teenage girls entertaining, because there’s that balance of naivity and shock as they find out that the world isn’t what they thought it was when they were ten years old.

But I can imagine he isn’t in it for the stimulating conversation.

When dealing with teens, expect everything to be drama or angst ridden. It’s wonderful to see them learn, grow and achieve.

She might have had second thoughts, if she had a male role model to have an honest chat with her. But I remember being 18 myself, and I can tell you, most 18 year olds are still fairly incapable of considering lifetime consequences.

If you really want to bring back the concept of sanctity, which I understand the value of fully, you could probably do better through positive experiences than negative ones.
