Reuters – 1 hr 39 mins ago

Two American officers were shot dead at close range inside Afghanistan's Interior Ministry on Saturday, a U.S. official said, as rage gripped the country for a fifth day over the burning of the Muslim holy book at a NATO base.

"For obvious force protection reasons, I have also taken immediate measures to recall all other ISAF personnel working in ministries in and around Kabul," said General John Allen, adding that the attacker's actions "will not go unanswered".

The two American officers, advisers to the ministry, were fired on at close range, a U.S. official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Afghan security sources said the two dead were a U.S. colonel and major with NATO forces.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the shootings.

THIS IS WAR. Unfortunately, we have the worst possible president at the worst possible time.

In the end what is the USA military and taxpayer going to get out of our 10+++ years in Afghanistan? The Soviets learned, we didn’t. We never learned that defending corrupt governments and leader/dictator is never a reason to go to war. We need to defend the USA only and forget these alliances. But we can’t because the USA has been hijacked.

There is no way to fight a war by winning the hearts and minds of the people. It is counterproductive. Let the Afghan people fight it out as Americans did in our Civil War.

In reality in today’s asymmetric wars you can not win a war unless one is willing to expend a million to one ratio in offense versus that with which the embedded population expends on insurgent defense. In the end what is won?

Let’s get the hell out of Afghanistan and try to keep in mind the absurdity of going to war without a mission. Either keep our nose out of world affairs and bring the USA back from indebtedness or add a 25% war surtax to every corporation and individual that will then ascertain our commitment.

Afghanistan was the birthplace of 9/11. We should’ve turned it into a bunch of pits like ground zero, but instead engaged in “negotiations” with the Taliban and the possible release of Taliban affiliates from GITMO.

The people of Afghanistan hated the Soviets for their unwarranted intrusion.. SOME Afghanistani’s are sympathetic to our assault on the Taliban and hate the Taliban too.. KILLING the Taliban was working out great but then we switched to pansy-azz ROE and ‘heroin crop replacement’ nation-building crap and things went south.

And they’re certain Korans were burned on purpose? A decade in Afghanistan and NATO personnel knowingly throw away/burn Korans?

Even from the beginning, this just smells like something that could easily have been ginned-up to cause trouble.

What we should have done is let the Special Forces do the job of dismantling the Taliban. This we did but then we tried “Nation Building” which in that country will never work. Those people seem to have a strong dislike for any form of government and were just waiting for a excuse to blow up.
Now we should pull out, blowing up anything we cant carry and let the inmates run the nuthouse.
And Piss on Islam...Piss on the Koran and Piss on Allah.

Top U.S. military leaders are top U.S. military leaders because they service the current person occupying the White House. Should they put the welfare of their Service and their people ahead of obeying the White House, they get fired.

Consequently, you end up with things like the “rough&tough” USMC top general endorsing open homosexuals in the Military. Something he would be highly unlikely to do if his job survival did not depend on kissing Presidential *ss (or such).

Yeah, I understand that the military leadership can only do so much.
