Insult to WWII heroes: Graves of British troops smashed and desecrated by Libyan Islamists in protest over U.S. soldiers' Koran burning
A furious mob has desecrated dozens of Commonwealth War Graves in a Libyan cemetery amid continuing fury in the Middle East over the burning of the Koran by U.S. soldiers.
Headstones commemorating British and Allied servicemen, killed during World War II campaigns in the Western Desert, lay smashed and strewn across Benghazi Military Cemetery.
Protesters rampaged through site on Friday, despite efforts by America to calm tensions sparked when it emerged U.S. soldiers had burned Muslim holy books in a pile of rubbish at a military base in Afghanistan.
President Obama has apologised to President Karzai for the unintentional burning of the Korans at NATO's main Bagram air base after Afghan labourers found charred copies while collecting rubbish.
White House spokesman Jay Carney sought to counter criticism, telling reporters on board Air Force One: ‘It is wholly appropriate, given the sensitivities to this issue, the understandable sensitivities.’
But it appears to have had little affect on sentiment among many in the Middle East.

My internet connection is poor tonight, so I’m having trouble searching, but I would imagine that the proper way to dispose of a Koran is to burn it. (Analogously, it is the proper way to dispose of an American flag.)

Terry Jones may have called off his Koran burning in Florida, but Iraqpundit writes that someone still owes the preacher a debt of gratitude:
Burning the Koran is only respectful way of disposing of the Holy book. For example, if a student is learning calligraphy and copies pages from the Koran, he is not allowed to throw away the papers. He must burn them out of respect for the Koran. So actually the Florida man is doing the Muslims a favor by disposing of several copies of the Koran in a proper way.
This reminds me of when I was studying in Cairo several years ago and my doorman showed me another way to dispose of the sacred book properly:
[The doorman] discovered in my garbage an exam I had taken that tested knowledge of certain ayat (or verses) from the Quran, and he reproached me for putting the holy book in the trash. I said that it was not the Quran itself, but only words taken from it. His response was astonishing: “You can either burn your exam,” he explained, “or do this …” At which point, he tore off a verse, rolled it up, put it into his mouth, and swallowed it.
You know why the Mohammedans attack dead soldiers, don’t you? Too charlie sierra to attack live ones. They only attack weak or disarmed foes, women and children by preference.
Why would anyone be surprised if a Muslim sided with Muslim terrorists? Does the name Hussein give you enough of a hint?

The only way we will defeat these monsters is to go on an all out-WWII type footing and attack and destroy any country harboring Islamic terrorists or supporting them.
Of course we will never do that so we probably will lose to them. These evil people have been so indoctrinated with the desire to murder that there is probably no saving them.
Make no mistake, these are vicious, fierce, deadly, killers. You cannot deal with them in any other way but destroy them and their base of support.

IIRC, when Gaddafi seized power in 1969, his first official act after closing Wheelus AFB was to threaten to dig up & desecrate Italian WWII graves. The government of Italy frantically sent in an airlift to evacuate their dead.

I wish to object to the characterization by many on this thread of the Libyan muslims as “savages”.
They are not savages - they are barbarians!
There is a difference.
Savages can’t read nor write, for instance.
Granted, the Arabs generally cling to many aspects of their pre-Islamic tribal savagery, but nonetheless they are able to marginally participate in some aspects of contemporary life.
Savages couldn’t do that, so credit where credit is due.

They don’t need to rise up in the US. Muslims already hold high positions in the current Admin, and in various buracracies. They are our rulers now, most of us just haven’t noticed - too many parties and ball games, you know.
