ADM Cuts 335 Decatur Jobs, Says Total Cuts Will Exceed 1,200

Archer Daniels Midland Co. (ADM) said Tuesday it has cut 335 jobs in Decatur, Ill., and that the total number of company jobs cut will be slightly larger than previously announced.

Of the 335 jobs cut in Decatur, where ADM is headquartered, 160 employees accepted an early retirement package, while 175 were laid off, ADM spokesman David Weintraub said. The cuts are "weighted toward corporate functions," as opposed to the company's business operations, such as corn and soybean processing, Weintraub said.

The cuts are part of a broader plan the grain trader and processor announced in January to cut about 1,000 jobs, or 3% of the company's workforce. The total cuts will end up exceeding 1,200, Weintraub said Tuesday, including separate cuts announced recently related to ADM's closure of a small North Dakota ethanol plant and its ending of a bioplastics joint venture in Iowa.

Between this, and Cargill's 2,000 layoffs, it looks like the recession is finally starting to impact U.S. Agriculture.

Illinois news. Has Quinn-occhio made an announcement regarding this? IIRC, ADM was a BIG Backer of Billy-Jeff Clinton.

No problem. They can all go to Michigan and get some of those new car manufacturing jobs.

Or is this just the logical result of cutting off the ethanol scam subsidies in 2011?

Probably a combination of that, and Obama’s food price Inflation, that no one wants to talk about.

Can you provide reasons? I’m not gonna pick them apart, I’m just genuinely curious.

I live in upstate NY and the next aisle down at the local Wallyworld I heard an intense smartphone conversation from one of Eric Holder’s people (read: likely ‘08 Obama voter) saying she is VERY careful of her “budget” now and that she is a totally frugal shopper. I felt like adding to her sentence “since Obama’s economic policies have taken root”

Or “EBT cards don’t go as far as they USED to since the Keynan stole the election”

The fact that most voters can’t say that they are better off today than 4 years ago - and this applies to other states as well. How could Illinois benefit from 4 more years of this? Put in for the 4016 Olympics?

“Holder’s people” are certainly no better off now; affirmative action only helps when people are hiring, and many still have to buy gas & groceries with the same devalued dollars as the rest of us. Obama’s election has been a nightmare for most people across the board.

Well, Illinois elections are decided by the Chicago vote. I don’t think that all those voting corpses are any worse-off than they were 4 years ago (and that includes the Zombie union members)!

Not at all; the economic malaise has hit them, too.

I never thought he’d even run for re-election; he has consistently acted as though he had no intention of running.
