President Barack Obama has written a letter to his Afghan counterpart apologizing for the burning of copies of the Quran at a NATO military base in the country. Two U.S. soldiers were also shot dead Thursday at a protest about the desecration of the holy books.
A man wearing an Afghan government soldier's uniform killed the American troops and wounded four others at the demonstration in Nangarhar province, officials told NBC News.
There have been violent protests daily since it emerged on Tuesday that Qurans used by detainees held at the Bagram military base had been burned. The incident has become a public relations disaster for foreign forces in Afghanistan.

As soon as our Muslim-in-chief pulls out US troops Afghanistan will revert to a Taliban run hell hole and all the good US troops have done not to mention the lives that have been sacrificed will be for nothing. The schools and hospitals that have been built by direct donations made by US troops and US organizations will torn down. I pity the women and young girls who for the first time have experienced education as they will now be persecuted and killed as the Taliban drag the country back into 6th century barbarism.

What is the correct way to dispose of a desecrated Koran, which has been desecrated by criminals who wrote things in it? I’ll bet if you asked an Imam, he would say, “Burn it!”

Why the hell don’t we just say that we respected them by disposing of them in the proper way? Or, since this is being done in Afghanistan, why not get a Mullah to come in and supervise their proper destruction.

Any chance of using Afghan as a staging point is gone. COIN is an utter failure with the Afghan people. The sandpaper theory is laughable too because the cost of this operation is not justified. A lot less expensive to emulate Israel's “screening” process to prevent domestic terrorism.

Respectfully, the Taliban has been a red herring all along. The Pakis allow the country to run amok and they have nukes, just like China and NoKo.
We will end up facing off with the Pakis and (hopefully) India will be there if needed. They need us. The Pakis hate the Indians as much as they hate us. All hell is breaking loose and there is nothing we can do about it but wait. The “Arab Spring” will be a nuclear winter with the Pakis getting involved...and they will eventually.
Afghanistan won’t matter...it will continue to be a moonscape retreat for the AQ and Muslim Brotherhood and assorted terrorists until the Pakis are brought to heel. Of course, our best chance of doing that was to have built a Texas sized green zone in Iraq from which to fight, so the Indians didn’t matter.

The POTUS in these situations needs to call Karsai(sp) yo the White House, sit him down. Using a finger to point tell him he is in power only because the US chooses, Afghanistan is free of terrorists only because of the US, the kids are being educated only because of he US, the Afghanistan armed forces exist only because of the US, everything good in the country is because of the US. So you President K stop these demonstrations and attacks on US facilities and personnel. And if they don't stop in ten days one of your military barracks will be leveled along with all troops there. And each time there is an American casualty, expect the same retaliation by the US. Say what you mean and mean what you say. There can be peace in Afghanistan - be tough, but show mercy too.
