Rubio went to a Mormon church as a kid
Politico ^ | 2/23/12 | maggie haberman

Posted on 02/23/2012 7:47:04 AM PST by TexasFreeper2009

From the Miami Herald, a little-known detail about Sen. Marco Rubio's personal story:

When Marco was 8 years old and living in Las Vegas, the Rubio family attended a Mormon church for a few years.

It's a tidbit just released by the publisher of his memoirs. It's also a piece of the history of Rubio, a rising party star and one of the best-known Hispanic officials in the GOP, that comes as a surprise.

UPDATE: The incomparable Molly Ball points out via Twitter, "Rubio's cousin Mo Denis is Mormon D state sen. in NV." Rubio is a practicing Catholic.

His spokesman, Alex Conant, fills out the history a bit, saying, "His family attended Mormon church in Vegas starting when he was around 8 years old, and then returned to the Catholic Church when he was around 11. He received his first communion in Catholic Church in Las Vegas in 1984, and subsequently was confirmed and married in a Catholic Church."

I'm sure they may well be along here on this thread before too long. Some of it may have already started.

“Rubio is trying to normalize his endorsed candidate, Bishop Romney.”

Or maybe it’s the opposite. The bishop trying to normalize his planned VP pick.

Jeff, good job of deflection.
I know people who have left mormonism who have been shunned by their families, former friends and co workers. Their decision to leave mormomism nearly destroyed them personally because of the way they were treated by these “good” people. I know people who do not leave (so much for free choice) because they know how they will be treated.
I stand by my statement, your statement was strange and it says much about lds.

No sweetie, just a heads up.
It is mormonISM that is the issue not mormons.
It is exposing mormonISM, there’s no jactitating about that.
Try and keep up.

No wonder Romney’s looking at him, I’d check for the all seeing eye tatoo under the hairline, it’s usually right at the crown of the head. It’s all true, can I get a Amen.

Get off the stove granny, you're too old to ride the range.

Gee, and I thought the article was about Rubio attending a Mormon Church as a child?

You and your ilk will not be satisfied until the last Mormon is dragged through the streets to Smithfield.

No deflection meant or attempted, svcw. That’s just more shadow boxing you’re engaging in.

If you want to go there, then you better include Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, Church of Christ, Lutheran, Amish, etc., etc. (almost any religious denomination) in your definition. I’ve seen people shunned in many denominations in my 56 years because they left their church...or married outside of it, etc..

So, sure, some people shunm others because they leave the “faith.” As I said, it happens in all religions. Families do it, former friends do it, etc.

It does not make it right, it does not make it Christ-like, and it certainly does not say anything about the broader population of those denominations any more than it does about the LDS. Most good people in all of them...and that is the majority of people in all of them...do not do so.

As I said...you ought to give it a rest. With all due respect, there’s really not a bad Mormon boogey-man hiding under every rock..

No damage done, just shows how smart they were.

Good job, answering statements not presented.
This thread is about Rubio’s family walking away from mormonISM, I say good for them.
You want to defend shunning of members who leave by trying to change to subject, go ahead, it shows you have learned your lessons well.

Ron Paul is a hypocrite. Romney is the opposite of what Paul says HE stands for, yet he has never said an negative word about him. He is manipulating people (young people are easy to convince and control) and he is using this process, not to win, but to alter the outcome for Romney. I wish more people (besides Conservatives) would recognize this.

This talk of VP for Paul is either crazy (9-11 an inside job) or not true.

Defending? You need a course in reading comrehension. I did not defend it. I said it was wrong and something I would not and do not do.

I simply stated that it occurs in all religions and your statements that it somehow says something about the LDS that I indicated I did not hold it against them somehow implied LDS were guilty of the same would have to be expanded to include those others who do the same thing.

...and that’s just the truth. I also indicated that the fact that a few people do so, does not indict the much larger populations in all of those denominations who do not...as you would like to indict the LDS church membership at large.

Jeez, talk about a strecth!

Anyhow, I did want to say that I agree wholeheartidly with your post on your FR page about the aims and steps the Islamics take in a nation such as ours to destroy our liberty and ultimately institute Sharia Law.

You ought to write a whole thread about that. It is a danger we all can and should untie to defend against and I would ping many people to it.

There is a big different between Christanity that has been here for 2000 years and a cult that was started 187 years ago. People better start talking about mormon beliefs because obama WILL What happens when obama tells people (how many Christians/Catholics are in this country?) that mormons believe Jesus is satans brother or that they think they are a lessor god and will become a greater god on there own planet. He will have hollywood writing about this and snl doing cornhead skits again of romney on his planet. That is just a few of the things they believe. I think we have to talk about this and not silence people. If mormons are so sure of there beliefs why do so many want to call themselves christians or try to hide or deny what they believe. If they want to deny it, obama won’t let them.

“Rubio is trying to normalize his endorsed candidate, Bishop Romney.”

"Or maybe it’s the opposite. The bishop trying to normalize his planned VP pick."

I have been listening to Rush. Rush is pointing out that Romney and Ron Paul have made an alliance. Ron Paul cuts down every other candidate except Romney. The alliance is when the time comes the VP pick will be Rand Paul.

I watched last nights debate and I think Rush is right on.

Ya. Ron is paving the way for Rand. I felt that from the gitgo. Ron just too old to be Pres. VP, etc. However, I in no way predicted Ron would be running as strong as he appears (in some areas).
