Newt Gingrich: Big ideas for big debate tonight
Politico ^ | 2/22/12 11:15 AM EST | MJ LEE

Posted on 02/22/2012 12:29:28 PM PST by Red Steel

Newt Gingrich promised ahead of the Republican presidential debate in Arizona on Wednesday night that voters will witness the return of “big solutions” Gingrich and that he plans to leave the negativity backstage.

“I think you’re going to see the person I’ve been in 15 out of 17 debates, which is focus on the big solutions, talk with the American people and try to stay out of the kind of negativity that unfortunately has characterized way too much of this race,” Gingrich said on Fox News when asked what kind of candidate people can expect to see at the Mesa, Ariz., debate.

Gingrich explained that his daughters, Kathy Lubbers and Jackie Cushman, had expressed worries about the negative tone that the recent GOP debates had taken on.

“They were concerned, correctly so, that the weight of negative advertising by Romney had drawn us into a kind of back-and-forth that wasn’t particularly helpful,” the former House speaker said. “I think what people want to know is, are you capable of solving the country’s problems, are you willing to change Washington decisively?”

He added, “My two daughters Kathy and Jackie wanted to see me focus more on the big solutions that will make their lives and our grandchildren’s lives better, and not to get involved in the normal back-and-forth between candidates.”

Wednesday’s debate, hosted by CNN and the Republican Party of Arizona, is scheduled to be the last showdown before Super Tuesday.

Wow, take you long to come up with that?

Newt has a proven record of getting things done day one, how about your guy?

I’ve posted this before but here is what Newt did on his FIRST DAY as Speaker January 5th, 1994:
- Led passage of nine reforms (they said he couldn’t/wouldn’t get any but he got all nine)
- Eliminated three committees.
- Eliminated twenty five subcommittees.
- Eliminated more than six hundred congressional jobs called LSOs and he didn’t pick and choose which ones, he eliminated ALL of them. A savings to the tax payers of nearly 35 million dollars.

It was billed as the longest first day in the history of the house (til 2:00am the next morning).

To add icing to the cake he hadn’t even started on the Contract With America yet. That was to come later (within 100 days actually) this was just in cleaning up the House.

There is no denying that he’s the smartest guy in the room with a proven track record and can mop the floor with Obama in any debate setting.

We KNOW what he will do once in office, that isn’t true for the other candidates unfortunately. We only hear sounds bites and further descriptions of the problems we already know exist.

Expect these questions tonight:

Senator Santorum, do you believe US Academia is under assault by a supernatural being by the name of Satan? Do you believe the USA is the target of this being?

You also alluded to some mainline Protestant denominations being "dead to Christianity" as a result to subversion by "Satan". Would you care to elaborate on which denominations you believe these are?

In the past you indicated that some Christians think that Mormonism is a cult. Is that what you believe?

If the US Congress were to pass a bill outlawing the sale or distribution of contraceptives, as president would you sign it?

And that will just be the first 15mins.

Santorum will never get past this and is politically dead.

"Big ideals = Big Spending"

Which of Newts "big ideals" equals big spending? It seems to me a remarkable thread running through all his ideas is how to do things more efficiently.

My prayers are for Newt and the very survival of our country.

Me too, Gator, me too! ...sad to see all the “snarky” comments on BOTH the Newt and Santorum threads ...one poster in particular who posts nothing but snarkiness on Newt threads ...always there but never offers anything useful, nothing of substance or of merit; just nasty comments. Meanwhile, it's no wonder Rome is burning.

I sincerely hope both Newt and Rick can stay on message tonight and avoid, as much as possible, the media's attempt to “pigeon hole” both of them.

Take care,

-Geoff

At what point will you decide that you are no longer a viable candidate and exit the race?”

Response: What does that have to do with me, who IS the proven conservative in this race? Did your memo say this platform is only for the GOP E?

“we going to mars now, newt?”

Nope, according to Santorum, Protestants are going to Hell and Romney’s supporters are still holding out for Kolab.

Newt is still the only candidate with the Plans and Solutions to sort out some of our problems. It is called “Vision”, which Santorum lacks by his own admission, and of which the Good Book says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish”.

Santorum is a decent family man with Christian values, but like Jimmy Carter, he will be a disaster as President. He is emotionally weak and doesn’t have the skills for the job. If he’s elected, he’d better hope his party wins both the House and the Senate, because he will need both to prop him up.

Newt would wipe the floor with anyone in a debate on the issues but sadly the MSM will not focus on the issues and now focus on preaching, God and Satan.

This is the start where Santorum will now start being hit with he’s a religious nut from the MSM and the country.

Only the GOP could have screwed this election up

one of the reason why I’ve not posted as much lately is the attacking of candidates.

There is the usual posters on here posting the usual crap against Newt all day every day and it’s become tedious and boring.

I didn’t know Santorum said he would ban openly serving homosexuals, when did he say it please?

I know he is against it from his views as should all on the right and most on the left but never heard him say that

ALL the candidates should remember this adage:

MUD THROWN IS GROUND LOST

Whatever dirt they dig up, make up or throw up at fellow Republicans will be piled back on the candidate 10 times over by Obama and his henchmen. Keep it respectful and positive. If you can't win without going negative, you don't have what it takes to win.

Agreed. As some poster quipped several weeks ago, FR needs an “ignore” button for certain serial snarky posters.
