Santorum 2008: America is under attack from Satan

Top story on Drudge as I write this. And to think, some people accuse him of being pro-Romney.

“Satan has his sights on the United States of America!” Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum has declared.

“Satan is attacking the great institutions of America, using those great vices of pride, vanity, and sensuality as the root to attack all of the strong plants that has so deeply rooted in the American tradition.”…

“This is a spiritual war. And the Father of Lies has his sights on what you would think the Father of Lies would have his sights on: a good, decent, powerful, influential country – the United States of America. If you were Satan, who would you attack in this day and age?”

“He attacks all of us and he attacks all of our institutions.”

Rush Limbaugh defended him half-heartedly on his show today, noting that the media thought it was cutesy-poo when evil clown Hugo Chavez compared Bush to the devil a few years ago but conceding that Santorum will “have to deal with it. He’ll have to answer it. I don’t know. It’s just not the kind of stuff you hear a presidential candidate talk about.” At the Post, John Podhoretz wonders if the best replacement for a president who sometimes seems to look down on Americans is … a president who sometimes seems to look down on Americans:

From the article: "Why wouldn’t a president who’s passionate about America’s perceived moral failings want to use his power to whatever extent he could to reverse them?"

The answer is that conservative Christians, recognizing that "all sin and fall short of the glory of God," believe that choosing someone's behavior for them is not as valuable to God as letting them make their own choices. That is the basis of freedom.

This is the opposite of liberal progressivism, in which the government micromanages politically correct outcomes and ignores its own hypocrisies. That is the basis of tyranny.

It’s 2012, and America is *still* under attack from Satan.

This is a four year old speech, not something he is saying to campaign crowds. So what do you mean, give it a rest? What you mean, and why ole Rush means is that he is not comfortable with this Catholic talk. He is a Catholic and he was talking to very conservative Catholics, not to the sort of Catholics who go to Georgetown.

“Santorum needs to give it a rest. All of this will not go over well in the general election, if he wins the nomination.”

This was a tape of a 4 year old speech that Drudge distorted and sensationalized. This was not something Santorum said recently.

Santorum doesn't need to “give it a rest”. He is speaking out forcefully and clearly on a number of topics including the economy, environmental extremism, reducing government spending. Don't be fooled by the narrative put out by the MSM.

Santorum needs to give it a rest.

He said this four years ago. I'd say that's a pretty good rest.

No, Bishop Mitt and his loyal servant Matt Drudge need to give it a rest. I am extremely disappointed in Drudge. Also in those Freepers who think that jumping on all these liberal smears will help their candidate, by helping the libs smear Santorum.

Like most conservatives, I agree with Rick Santorum's comments on Satan and don't consider them 'controversial'. I also see that Matt Drudge is on the Romney team, as are many people I once considered conservatives. Not any more. This election will not only be crucial to the future of America and as dirty as an election campaign ever was but it will also weed out conservatives and those who talk the conservative talk but embrace the Republican establishment status quo. Drudge, Ann Coulter and others are coming out of the establishment closet and believe me, for this conservative, that door can never be shut again no matter how these people attempt to excuse their allegiance to Romney and the smarmy, GOP-generated attacks on Rick Santorum. I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it, anymore!

agree , this is all getting stupid now.

Under attack from satan AARRGGHH, whether we agree or not to say idiotic things like this and think people will vote for him in a general election is stupid and pathetic.

The issues we have, the issues we need to focus on, the issues we can win on .
We are fighting a war against the fringe of the left and now some seem to think we’re now fighting a religious war.

Only the GOP/RNC could have screwed this year up , first they attack Newt with their millions and using Drudge, FOX etc and now Santorum is being painted as a religious nutbag which is going to lose us the election and give the fringe of the left another 4 years to destroy us.

We have decent people Sarah, Col Allen west NM Gov etc but now we’re here with a man who was attacked like i have not seen.
A man who is just a liberal, elitist establishment and will only carry on these policies put in place.
A man who is not even a republican but a libertarian .

AND a man who is now painted as some religious nutbag thinking he is fighting war with Satan.

I honestly despair at how some have attacked certain candidates to defend theirs and then GOP have lost me after the way they acted in FL.

This guy Santorum is growing on me every day.

I’m still a Gingrich fan. But I like Santorum more all the time.

LOL. There are probably all sorts of tapes out there with black ministers like Reverend Jesse Jackson, and Reverend Al Sharlatan saying EXACTLY the same thing. Get one of those tapes and play it in the media - Problem solved!

RINOs don’t need to fear no more!

I’ve come to believe that islam was founded and given direction by Satan and that America is his top target, so yes, I agree.

Oddly, he wasn’t a Presidential candidate when he said those things, he was apparently giving a spiritual message in a church.

And while it doesn’t sound like what I would usually expect from a Catholic brother, it seems hauntingly accurate. We have for way too long forgotten that there is really a devil, and he really does work against us to turn us from God.

Satan is real, so is God and so is Jesus Christ. I’m not sure what else I can add to that.

LOL. Santorum is doing today what he did in 2008, preaching and making judgement. Be assured, this will look like an endorsement in comparison to what the Obama team will do to with this stuff.

You don't understand. This is not something Santorum said recently or said as a part of his campaign.

This is a small part of a 4 year old speech that Santorum gave to a small Catholic group. It has been distorted and sensationalized by Drudge to make Santorum look bad.

The MSM are all ignoring Santorum’s recent speeches on a wide range of topics and trying to find small parts of old statements that they can distort to make Santorum look bad. This is deliberate.

That being said, I admire Santorum’s recognizing the immorality that is infiltrating our government and our society and having the courage to speak about it.

I haven’t seen the figures in a couple of years, but something like 85% of the populace believes in a higher being. Something like 65% of U. S. Citizens consider themselves to be Christians.

Imagine that, one of them actually thinks Satan exists, and is doing his best to defeat Christianity, morals, and any nation on earth that wants to live by them.

Who knew?

Santorum isn’t perfect, but he uncorks some great comments that I identify with 100%.
