I've posted this before and I'll say it again. This whole idea of "religious liberty" in the context of the Obamacare argument is nothing more than a red herring. T'm disappointed that Ms. Schlafly has taken the bait from the U.S. Catholic bishops and may not have thought this all the way through.

The Catholic bishops are completely full of crap on this issue. They -- along with the leaders of many of the so-called "religiously affiliated institutions," as Ms. Schlafly calls them (what the heck does that mean, anyway) are 100% behind ObamaCare, as long as they can weasel their way out of certain provisions under the guise of some "religious exemption."

The basic flaw in ObamaCare has nothing to do with "religious liberty" at all -- and has everything to do with liberty, period. The Catholic bishops should be standing up for the rights of Catholic employers (or anyone else, for that matter) who determine that any provisions of ObamaCare -- including any kind of insurance mandate that has no place in U.S. law -- are an outrageous violation of their God-given rights. But they can't do that because this would put these Catholic employers at odds with most of the Catholic leadership that has fully embraced a Marxist view of government-run health care for decades.

“Freedom of religion” is not the same as “Freedom from religion”.
“Freedom from religion” is the primary goal of the liberals.

Obummer hit it on the head:

“And it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion...”

The original 13 State Constitutions protected consciences, religion and guns.

Viz:

Similarities of Obummer and King George III concerning anti-liberty acts and anti-First Amendment anti-religion acts [Obummer]:
( Many state constitutions were written before the US Constitution. These state constitutions are actually inferred to in language therein synopsized in the US. Bill of Rights.)
`

New York Constitution of 1777:

`He has refused his assent to laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

“He has forbidden his governors to pass laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

[Arizona, Virginia,etc]

“He has erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people and eat out their substance [Epa, DOJ, school cafeteria federal food police –NC]

“He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his assent to their acts of pretended legislation: [United Nations]

[detainment act]

VI. And whereas an opinion hath long prevailed among divers of the good people of this State that voting at elections by ballot would tend more to preserve the liberty and equal freedom of the people
[Religious Feeedom]

That all such parts of the said common law, and all such of the said statutes and acts aforesaid, or parts thereof, as may be construed to establish or maintain any particular denomination of Christians or their ministers, or concern the allegiance heretofore yielded to, and the supremacy, sovereignty, government, or prerogatives claimed or exercised by, the King of Great Britain and his predecessors, over the colony of New York and its inhabitants, or are repugnant to this constitution, be, and they hereby are, abrogated and rejected.

this convention doth further, in the name and by the authority of the good people of this State, ordain, determine, and declare, that the free exercise and enjoyment of religious profession and worship, without discrimination or preference, shall forever hereafter be allowed, within this State, to all mankind: Provided, That the LIBERTY OF CONSCIENCE, hereby granted, shall not be so construed as to excuse acts of licentiousness, or justify practices inconsistent with the peace or safety of this State.

XL. And whereas it is of the utmost importance to the safety of every State that it should always be in a condition of defence; and it is the duty of every man who enjoys the protection of society to be prepared and willing to defend it; this convention therefore, in the name and by the authority of the good people of this State, doth ordain, determine, and declare that the militia of this State, at all times hereafter, as well in peace as in war, shall be armed and disciplined, and in readiness for service.

PART I. - THE BILL OF RIGHTS

ARTICLE I
All men are born equally free and independent; therefore, all government of right originates from the people, is founded in consent, and instituted for the general good.

II. All men have certain natural, essential, and inherent rights. among which are —the enjoying and defending life and liberty —acquiring, possessing and protecting property —and in a word, of seeking and obtaining happiness.

V. Every individual has a natural and unalienable right to worship GOD according to the dictates of his own conscience, and reason; and no subject shall be hurt, molested, or restrained in his person, liberty or estate for worshipping GOD, in the manner and season most agreeable to the DICTATES OF HIS OWN CONSCIENCE, or for his religious profession, sentiments or persuasion; provided he doth not disturb the public peace, or disturb others, in their religious worship.
