R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr.: It Is Time for Newt to Go! [doesn't like his age or his one liners]
The American Spectator ^ | February 16, 2012 | R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr

Posted on 02/16/2012 5:15:37 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

WASHINGTON -- There is a grisly pallor that has beset former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. Then, too, there is a lumpiness: to his face, to his features, to his – well -- to his lump. When he walks into a room I feel rather sorry for him, but then I feel rather sorry for Bill Clinton too and for Hillary. No longer do I call her "Bill's lovely wife, Bruno." She looks grandmotherly rather than tough. I guess maybe her coeval from the 1960s generation of student government goody-goodies, Newt, looks grandfatherly rather than brainy. What does Al Gore look like these days, and Jean-François Kerry? They all quite abruptly assumed old age.

...This week the editors of National Review called upon Newt to quit the race. I second the motion. A couple of weeks ago Newt called for Rick Santorum, he having only one win in his column, to give up. Now Santorum has four wins and Newt is stuck with his one forlorn victory an increasingly long time ago. It is time for Newt to throw his weight behind Santorum or Mitt Romney. It is time for him to retire from the race and go on to become the greatest Futurologist in America, possibly in the known world. The present is no place for him. He has displayed his judgment repeatedly and it is deficient. He has also displayed his art for the one-liner and it is destructive, destructive of other Republicans in the race. He began his race for the presidency with a flourish of his ostentatious braininess that hurt Congressman Paul Ryan, a real Republican leader. He has gone on to endanger Santorum and Romney. It is time for him to go.

Newt has the skills and experience to get Americans behind our Country-wide campaign.

Newt has picked up the energy independence banner.

Gas prices will be driving home his point.

So many of the pubbie elites are dipped in mittens muffins batter and any one that gets in his way are evil or stupid or fill in the blank.

I don't Newt or Rick to listen to any of these people crying to get them out of the race.

The race will sort itself out and we will have a candidate, hopefully a conservative.

The smell of fresh Catholic bashing in the morning!
Why do think it’s okay to attack Catholics.

We are self-destructing.

Ada,

Don't despair, it looks bad now, but once we have a candidate, it will look better.

Remember, no matter who gets the nod, that person will be at least 10,000 times better than obummer.

Go to Church, say a prayer for our Country, but don't give up.

I'll say one for you so that you regain your resolve, we need everyone in the up coming battle.

Newt’s Catholic.

No one is bashing Santorum’s religion.

Get a grip.

Regarding the age thing, I wonder how Tyrrell explains Ronald Reagan?

Tyrell is not establishment as some posters are saying. Some posters are whining at any mere criticism of Newt like a bunch of spoiled junior high girls. Self destruction is aided by myopic viewpoints.

You are correct. Tyrrell is in a league all his own, and I’m sure he would be the first to tell you so.

This article is nonsense and he reveals a very nasty side.

Just add Tyrrell and American Spectator to the long and growing list that has sold out to the GOP-e, like FOXNEWS and their many voices. FOXNEWS can’t be trusted.

Oh Boo Hoo Robert. Bad ole Newt is endangering Williard and Rick. Maybe Romney should drop out so Newt and Rick can go head to head.

American Spectator still has some decent writers. I’m not sure how much Tyrrell writes anymore. The magazine certainly can do without his contribution.

Yeah, he founded his magazine in a farmhouse in Ellettsville, Indiana, while he was a student at Indiana University. Initial appointments to the editorial board were settled by beer drinking contests. A real establishment Republican.

(Of course, the house was nicknamed "The Establishment" which used to drive the IU hippie population into apoplectic fits.)

I think if Newt were to become the Republican nominee and Obama was really afraid of debating him, he would refuse to have any debates—and the media would let him get away with it. Look at what happened in 2008 over accepting unlimited private contributions after promising to rely just on the public funding of his campaign, or his recent embrace of Super-PACs. Barely a whimper from the media.

American Spectator has been out to lunch for a long time.

It’s the voice of the war party wing; promoting Homeland inSecurity’s domestic war against Americans and our constitution and pushing foreign wars so America can be the bully, er, I mean, leader of the world.

Problem is that their globalist trade policy has stripped the US of the wealth it needs to support their vision of brute global power. The US is not a military power when it is no longer an economic and cultural power.

Tyrell is not establishment as some posters are saying.

Wasn't American Spectator (under Tyrell) one of the conservative outlets that abruptly dropped the Vince Foster thing -- in spite of the fact that a major contributor wanted them to keep on it, and stopped his contributions because they wouldn't?

If Newt wants to exact revenge on Romney then he should heed this advice. Right before super Tuesday pull out and endorse Santorum, Romney will go down for permanent defeat.

Did you know that Newt is soooo smart he did not even register his name as a website? Newt Gingrich is already taken by some left wing group. That is why his website is newt.org.
