Santorum to speak at Hillsdale, other candidates invited

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum will speak on campus Monday night, Hillsdale College administrators and representatives from his campaign confirmed. Students have also invited Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, and Mitt Romney to speak at what could be the college’s first presidential candidate symposium. At press time, their campaigns had not committed to the event.

Santorum said he was looking forward to visiting Hillsdale to participate in the forum.

“I am excited to share my vision for a brighter America, and the life experiences that have helped shape those positions,” Santorum said.

The Hillsdale College Constitution Symposium, a coalition of students representing campus groups, is sponsoring the event which will take place at the Jesse Phillips Arena.

College President Larry Arnn said the administration approved of students’ plans to bring candidates onto campus.

“We have agreed that this is a good thing to the extent that it does not disrupt the work of the college,” Arnn wrote in a statement. “Of course the college takes no position on who should be elected president.”

Senior Elliot Gaiser, president of Students in Free Enterprise and chair of the Constitution Symposium, said he approached Santorum’s campaign over Christmas break to gauge the former Pennsylvania senator’s interest in coming to campus before the Michigan presidential primary on Feb. 28.

“Forums such as this are a great way for voters to learn where the candidates stand,” Santorum said.

Students from the Hillsdale College Republicans, the Classical Liberal Organization, and SIFE are collaborating to put on the event, Gaiser said.

Prayer bump for Rick Santorum. May God protect Rick and his family as this campaign moves forward gaining momentum and broad support Rick and his family will be subjected to physical and spiritual threats by those who are enemies of God and freedom and seek to destroy the Godly principles our nation was founded on.

We are not in halftime folks. We are in the final 2mins of the superbowl and we are down by 16million. Rick Santorum is our quarterback but God is our head coach. And when we move in accordance with HIS Divine Will.... We cant lose no matter the odds.

They even got David Axselrod getting into the mix of attacking Rick Santorum.

Let's see.

Mitt Romney attacking Rick Santorum.
David Aselrod attacking Rick Santorum.
Newt's big money guy got back in to support Newt again to take Rick Santorum out of the race.

Looks like there is a pattern going on there...

What do you mean Soros and company???

Soros is reporting Newt’s big contributor is working for Romney? Do you have a credible person’s name (and a link so I can read it) who is making this claim? And when did George Soros have credibility with conservatives?

Obama/Romney have spent a thousand times more cash and effort attacking Gingrich than they have criticizing Santorum. They have gone easy on Santorum compared to Gingrich.

Santorum is thus untested in political combat compared to Gingrich.

Look in the News/Activism thread about Sheldon Adelson.

He and his wife are wimps. They want to give to Romney, but don’t want to take the heat for it, so Adelson was quoted as saying he’d probably give Newt more money in the hopes that it brough Santorum’s numbers down, there-by helping Romney gain momentum and frontrunner status.

Whoever here thinks Santorum is the best choice is delusional. Yes, delusional. He may win the nom and/or win the pres, but face it. America is at least half full of idiots, as is evidenced by 0 being elected and by network tv show ratings(Reality tv, soap operas, Oprah, anything not educational). He does not have the bold vision to make America a great nation. It will be more of the same if he wins.
You people, CW excluded, think you have to settle for bland, timid, whiny.

Choose Newt for boldness of vision and the ability to make US great again.

Excellent point and lost in most of the noise.

The Soros linked $$$ has not been used against Santorum up to now because he was presumed to not be a threat and they did not want to wake up the Christian Conservatives. Rick will get more votes for much less $$$ in fact I suspect the $$$ directed against him far exceed the $$$ used to defend him. God bless and protect Rick Santorum.

You can say Newt is great all day long on this site, but what he needs to for people to vote for him and that is where his misses out. Telling us here does not do much since we are a very small percentage of the voters. Voters like what they see in Santorum and that is what counts. Sorry but that is how it works.

[Feb 20] “HILLSDALE — Hillsdale College has announced that a Constitution Symposium has been cancelled now that Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum is not attending.

The event was to have been held Monday night.

Santorum “has decided to attend another event elsewhere in the state,” said a media advisory from William Gray, a college spokesman.

The former Pennsylvania senator is now attending the Kent County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner in Grand Rapids Monday night.

Hillsdale students had hoped other presidential candidates also might attend their event, but none of them signed up to come. The campaign teams for Santorum and others have said they hope their candidates can find another date before Michigan’s February 28 primary to come to Hillsdale College, the news advisory said.”
