GOP Presidential Candidates Address CPAC [Santorum, Romney, Gingrich]
C-Span ^ | February 10, 2012 | Santorum, Romney, Gingrich

Posted on 02/10/2012 3:56:22 PM PST by thouworm

C-SPAN's coverage of the 39th annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) continues Friday with speeches by the leading presidential candidates and Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell.

The three top GOP candidates for the Republican nomination -- former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum -- are taking a break from the campaign trial to address attendees. Rep. Ron Paul was invited to speak but will instead continue campaigning.

It took me a minute or two to figure out. If anyone else is as slow as me, just hit the video on the right side under playlist. It’ll start the video.

I look forward to watching them when I have time. Saw half of santorum’s and agreed with all he said. Love the earnestness and genuineness of him. He would make a great steward of the at ion and would represent us conservatives. Heard newt’s was inspirational.

Santorum’s was the best by a mile. Go Santorum. He just might win the straw vote tomorrow after that incredible speech.

After listening to the three, I was disappointed in Santorum. I wanted much more. He gave the best speech of the entire GOP campaign, IMHO, after his victory in MO and MN. It was presidential and inspired. I was hoping for more of the same at CPAC. It hit many important points, but I was hoping he would capitalize his primary sweep in this national forum with another speech that would grip a national audience viscerally.

His win in Colorado stunned the pundits and the GOP elites. He under-promises and over-delivers. I trust he knows the ropes in Washington and will do the same.

Newt gave a rousing, albeit, policy wonk, speech. Nevertheless, it roused the audience more than any other candidate, and that’s what he needed to do.

Hate to admit it, but Romney was excellent. He must have a good speechwriter.

PS: Listen to Mike Huckabee’s speech. Will post when I find a url.

The GOP needs to incorporate Newt’s ideas for judicial reforms into the Republican Platform!

“Severely” conservative....He said the word conservative 25 times in a 26 minute speech.

FOX pointed out the meme so it's been negated.

I saw all three speeches, listened to them, and contemplated not only the words, but the sentiment, the meaning, and the direction each described for the nation. I thought of the challenges dared, and the sacrifices asked, and the dreams imagined.

Two of them stirred me, but on different levels; the other seemed shallow, scripted, a litany of sonorous sound bites and trite platitudes and dog-eared huzzahs.

First, the one that failed: Romney. Mitt, you are as inspirational as a wet rag; as deliberate as a marshmallow; and as credible as an unquantified and untenable exponent. I cannot, in all candor, support you.

Now, for the other two.

Santorum inspired me on an emotional level. He knocked it out of the park when he harkened back to the promise of the Founders, who pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. He nailed it when he said this election is the most pivotal of our lifetime, because if we don’t change direction now, posterity will never forgive us.

Newt inspired me intellectually. He dominated the debate in that regard. He presented sound reason, unassailable facts, proven theory, and a well-defined road map to where we need to go to save this country.

A Gingrich/Santorum or Santorum/Gingrich team gives me hope for the future.

I kept hearing Newt’s stump speech woven in Santorum’s speech. He has a problem being original.

Yup, and he’ll be just as ignored by the folks nursing their beers and soaking up the rays in the seventh inning, their attention more on the other revelers than on the game. And so it should be.

Excellent analysis. You have provoked me to listen to the speeches again.

I agree with your overall assessment. Re: Romney, again I agree overall, but to my chagrin, of the three, I thought he gave the best CPAC speech. I don’t believe anything he says is heartfelt, or that he will deliver what he promises were he to become president, but I did think he gave the best speech I have heard from him in this campaign.

Did you hear Santorum’s victory speech? If not, I will give you a link. Perhaps, I am misjudging Santorum’s CPAC speech. I was hoping for more.

Newt needed to re-assert himself into the race, and I thought he definitely accomplished that goal.

The end of Feb debate should be a barn-burner.

Yes, it should be. It comes right before Super Tuesday, so it will be pivotal. Stock up on the popcorn!
