Maher Turns on Occupiers, Denounces Them as D-bags That Should ‘Get a Job’
Newsbusters ^ | Feb. 4, 2012 | By Noel Sheppard

The Occupy movement lost one of its most ardent supporters in the media Friday night.

On HBO's Real Time, host Bill Maher surprisingly said of the protesters, "As I watch them on the news now I find myself almost agreeing with Newt Gingrich. Like, you know what - get a job...Now it's just a bunch of [d-bags] who think throwing a chair through the Starbucks window is going to bring on the revolution" (video follows with transcript and commentary, vulgarity warning):

BILL MAHER: Let me ask you about another occupation, because this is - and you would be good on this too, panel -, the occupation, the Occupy Wall Street, because similar to Afghanistan, when you occupy anything for too long people do get pissed off. And as I watch them on the news now I find myself almost agreeing with Newt Gingrich. Like, you know what - get a job. Only because, you know, the people who originally started, I think they went home and now it's just these anarchist stragglers. And this is the problem when you, you know, when your movement involves sleeping over in the park. You wind up attracting the people who were sleeping over in the park anyway.

[Laughter and applause]

MAHER: And I think that's where we are now with the Occupy movement. They did a great job bringing the issue of income and equality to the fore, but now it's just a bunch of douchebags who think throwing a chair through the Starbucks window is going to bring on the revolution.

Video Here

Truly surprising, especially coming less than two months after Time magazine gushed and fawned over the Occupy movement as it named "The Protester" its Person of the Year.

Makes you wonder if that magazine will come around, and when the rest of the liberal media will recognize that this movement is not what they hoped for.

Stay tuned.

It was only a matter of time. Anyone remember (former PA governor) Ed Rendell coming out only a week or two after OWS started and essentially saying, 'OK guys, we hear your message. Now go back home, otherwise you're going to hurt us (Dem's) in the 2012 election.'

If I can find the video, I'll post it to this thread.

Yep 100% correct. But all those millions spent and they nothing for it. But there is a strain of conservative who will do as the lefts says and forget all about the phony OWS and chastise those conservatives who do remember this hoax.

This makes me wonder whether I’ve been wrong about the occupiers all along.

As one freeper said in a previous thread of this exact subject, the unemployment numbers are going down (actually, they are not) so get a job because of the improving Obama economy.

The OWS jerks did their job and they must retire to help the Communist/Democratic party cause now.

The message is out- these nutjobs are associated with democraps, and people don’t like them

LETS KEEP THEIR MOVEMENT ALIVE!!

This ‘spontaneous’ movement suddenly appeared with fully staffed food service very quickly. Was this what the democraps thought they were going to turn into a violent overthrow o the US government and institution of socialism?

If so they are even more incompetant then the boob-in-chief, Obama.

And were the old soviet era propogandist as gleefully willing as the current US media? or were they forced to say the things they said?

I don’t believe they will stop on their own.

The Democrat mayors who allowed it to get out of hand in the first place, will get the call from the top to not let it happen before the election.

But I fear the die has been cast. For the first time in my memory, we have a President running for re-election on the strategy of dividing the country and inciting hatred for one another.

The unions will also be out in force, and I’m betting that “force” is exactly the strategy they intend to use.

exactly why I’m now hoping they stick around! We need to make sure the Occupiers are kept supplied with blue tarps, drums, iPhone batteries, etc - and especially LOTS of Obama campaign signs, stickers, etc!

reminds me of the old saying.. a conservative is just a liberal who got mugged.

The actual saying: A neoconservative is "a liberal who has been mugged by reality." Irving Kristol

Conservatives don't have to be mugged in order to believe what we believe.

Agree. OWS needed to be nipped in the bud within a few days after it started. Few people remember that the original agenda had OWS ending in January. Now here it is February and not only have the protests not stopped, but they’ve spread.

I think he’s wrong. What we see now are the REAL occupiers. The rest were just kids wanting to be hippies for a while, then it got cold and boring so they left.
