Judge suspends (Durham County NC DA) Cline; hearing set on removal
(Raleigh, NC) News and Observer ^ | 27 January 2012 | J. Andrew Curless

DURHAM -- District Attorney Tracey Cline was immediately suspended from office late Friday after a judge found probable cause that she has engaged in ongoing attacks on a Durham judge that are "prejudicial to the administration of justice" and bring her office into disrepute.

Superior Court Judge Robert H. Hobgood of Franklin County suspended Cline under a rarely used state law. He ordered a hearing for Feb. 13 to determine whether Cline will be permanently removed from the elected office she has held since 2009.

Hobgood was not required to suspend Cline before next month's hearing, but he invoked that option. Through a judicial assistant, he declined to comment.

Cline will continue to receive her salary during the suspension.

Tracey Cline is the current Durham County, North Carolina DA, elected in the wake of disbarred Duke lacrosse scandal DA Mike Nifong's epic collapse. She has gone on the warpath against one of the district Superior Court judges, vowing to get him removed from the bench "at all costs" and writing poorly-spelled specious complaints about him to the State Bar and other judicial authorities.

A local lawyer filed a complaint against her; it was referred to an out-of-county judge not involved in the fracas, and he ruled yesterday that she be suspended pending the outcome of a hearing where he decides whether or not she gets removed.

Interesting (and rarely here in Zimbabwe With a Ballpark), the race card can't be played in this discussion. Both Cline and Orlando Hudson, the judge, are black. I think she's playing the sex card instead, as she is female and Hudson is male.

Just another day in Durham. Maybe The Fong can get his law license back and run again! He'd get at least 30% of the vote, and the only reason he'd lose is not the miscarriage of justice he committed, but that he didn't make the indictments against the lacrosse players stick.

Wow. That’s a real upstanding series of D.A.s that Durham has had recently. (rme)

So if she is removed from office, will that also disbar her?

I don’t know. I don’t think that it would automatically, as that’s handled by the state Bar Association. Now if she gets thrown out, would they try to disbar her? Quite possibly, I don’t know how that all works. I also wonder if she’d be able to run for DA again this November if she got removed.

More information below from the local Durham newspaper, the Herald-Sun, which has been very quiet about this, as indeed they were about Nifong’s massive malfeasance in the Duke lacrosse case.

This Herald-Sun article’s got more information on the Kerry Sutton motion that Judge Hobgood used to suspend DA Cline. I’ve always known the Durham DA’s office is “the gang that can’t shoot straight,” but this is ridiculous.

Indirectly related to Duke LAX ping. More judicial fun here in the Bull City, featuring Mike Nifong’s successor!

I just read the entire article. Very interesting. Cline comes off as a total kook who somehow landed the DA position.

But she A) somehow managed to get a law degree and pass the bar exam, and B) has sufficient skin melanin content. Why would you expect any further qualifications would be necessary to the Durham electorate?

I feel for the City of Durham. They will probably have to AGAIN endure the wrath and bull $hit from the likes of Je$$e Jackson, Rev Al and the New Black Panthers. Plus, this time they have Eric Holder, who will no doubt send 20 or 30 black U.S. Attorney's down there to file charges against Superior Court Judge Robert H. Hobgood.

On a similar note....I wonder if Je$$e ever actually sprung for the promised free 4 year education for the hooker who filed rape charges against the LaCross players? Guess not, since she is in prison and would have trouble making it to her daily classes at Duke.

Wow, long overdue.

Every once in a while I go back to read the blog at http://durhamwonderland.blogspot.com/ to follow up on the reverberations from the Duke lacrosse fiasco, and continue to be gobsmacked by the idiocy that still runs rampant in Durham, both in the government and in the academy.

It appears this D.A. is not only in way over her head, but she has some mental issues, as well.

The day Tracey Cline was elected to the district attorney's office was probably the first day in her life she was proud of her country...

Just wow. For some reason I thought Kerry Sutton was a male. That Cline woman though, mercy.

I would be embarrassed to say I was from the Durham DA’s office after all of this, I can’t imagine what is going through their minds...although they did have the wonderful example of Nifong to follow. (Shakes head)

Here are some fascinating emails between Cline and the newspaper doing a series of articles about her.

She definitely has issues.

I don’t know if Jackson paid, but she graduated from college, not Duke though... Carolina Central, which is where I suspect this DA is also an alum. BTW Crystal’s degree was in criminology, I kid you not.
