Tired and broke, Santorum heads home to do taxes

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (AP) — Rick Santorum is tired, almost broke — and going home.

The former Pennsylvania senator is taking a pause from Florida campaigning just days before the Tuesday primary that even he expects to deal him a third consecutive loss.

Santorum says he would rather spend his Saturday sitting at his kitchen table doing his taxes than campaigning in a state where the race for the Republican presidential nomination has become a two-man fight between Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney.

The cash-strapped candidate acknowledges that he simply can't keep up with the GOP front-runners in Florida.

"We're going to talk about the Constitution and talk about being a strong conservative," Santorum said at an event here this week. "And that's all we can do."

Outside advisers are urging him to pack up in Florida completely and not spend another minute in a state where he is cruising toward a loss. But Santorum insisted on Friday that he would return once he has readied his taxes for public release.

Support the FairTax!

That's like saying, "Support the Black Market." If you think the drug war was bad, just wait until there's a substantive NRST.

Any tax system will be bad as long as we can't rein in spending.

I believe he’s retrieving his taxes (not doing them) from his home office/computer because the candidates have been asked to release them. That’s exactly what he told Greta the other night.

I personally could not face my party, any conservative, or my country if I was Santorum after what this dude has done to this race in Florida.

It just boggles my mind to see how someone could be so obtuse, and or just so utterly self-centered and selfish.

It could have gone so well for him if he’d dropped out. I really thought he was a better man.

Why should Santorum drop out? He wants to be president just like Paul, Mitt, and Newt. He’s earned the right to make his own decision. But I wonder if he is backing off, looking for a spot in the new republican admin?

Sad. I like him a lot. Hope he endorses Newt.

Hang in there Rick! Your day is coming. Maybe in 2020 after a two-term Newt presidency?

I would gladly vote for him.

Don’t you think his wife and/or trusted friends could have done that so he could preserve his presence in FL?

I don’t know how these candidates, and all of them, no spring chickens, keep up with the pace. It exhausts me just to think about never having a day with nothing to do. I really admire them and their wives for never looking tired and always smiling. I could never do it.

Just the fact that those two would even consider showing up for a photo op for FUBO tells you all you need to know about the Bushes. I guess the idiot son, GWB, decided to pass on the opportunity. Never forget the fact that the reason we have Obama today is sitting right there with him. They are part of the GOP’s “It’s My Turn” strategery for picking presidential nominees. Results: Bush 41, Dole, Bush 42, McLame. Nothing more need be said.

I’m surprised by that pic. The Bush’s just have no pride in the family. To cozy up to BO who has done NOTHING but trash their brother and son for 4 years is just nothing but disgusting. I guess they are impressed with his celebrity. It really shows poor judgement, kind of like them buddying up to Clinton who did nothing but trash them too. They look like idiots with zero spine or pride. No more Bushes.

That pic REALLY has me pissed!!

What are the chances of the THREE of them having a “meeting” FOUR DAYS before the Florida primary??????

Tell me now how it DOESN’T look like a “conspiracy” against the Tea Party and Newt.

Get Romney nominated, no conservative Tea Party backed candidate.

Set Romney up like a Little League T-Ball for Obama to hit outta the park in November, and THEN Jeb gets his 2016 shot with the Tea Party officially dead.

(....oooops..forgot my Reynolds Wrap cap.....)

A letter I sent to Senator Santorum tonight:

Dear Honorable Senator Santorum:

I am writing as a conservative voter concerned about the race in Florida this coming week.

I have appreciated your career serving our nation since the early 90’s, especially as I was a worker in the pro-life movement, volunteering at a crisis pregnancy center in southeast Alabama for several years. I was a military wife, and spent countless hours working there and observing your stance and strong pro-life advocacy as a conservative representative. I have always admired your courage
in leading on this issue, and know that the pro-life, as well as the conservative cause have been greatly served by your efforts. In short, I have been a fan of yours for a very long time.

I have also enjoyed your participation in this primary process very much. I was heartened by your win in Iowa, and had hopes that your momentum would continue into the following primaries.

However, it is clear to us, as voters, that this momentum has not continued. Polls clearly show Speaker Gingrich has had the solid lead next to Governor Romney in this race going forward.

While I realize Speaker Gingrich is a flawed candidate, I still believe he will successfully articulate the conservative message and beat President Obama in the general election. I strongly feel that if
Governor Romney wins the nomination, he will go down in solid defeat against Obama.

I urge you, for the good of this country, which faces a dire future under continued democratic leadership, for the good of the conservative cause, and most of all, for the good of the unborn, to resign from the Florida race and remove your name from the ballot before the vote on Tuesday. I also urge you to THEN take in the lead
in refuting the actions of the Republican establishment, and use your leadership skills to rally these and other voters behind the candidacy of Speaker Gingrich. At THIS moment in our history, you are in the prime position to do this.

If Governor Romney wins, it is clear he will have the strongest momentum throughout the primary and will win the nomination. As he is not a reliable pro-life candidate, his win will be a death knell to millions more unborn children yet to come. If Speaker Gingrich wins, you, I, and others will remain in this fight to promote the pro-life
cause, as well as conservative leadership and values for years to come.

I do believe sometimes we have to lose a few battles to remain in the fight. I want to remain in the fight for the unborn, and for conservative principles to return this country to greatness. I believe
your name should be at the top of the list for the vice presidential nomination, or that you should perhaps return once again during the next election to run again, as have many winning candidates before. I do hope you will do this for our country. I will remain forever grateful to you, and you will have my unrelenting respect if you do
so. My own husband sacrificed for this country by serving in Iraq for two tours, and a tour in Korea, and so we are not strangers to sacrifice. I can tell you that in doing so, you will gain much more than if you decide to continue with other ambitions.

Sinc — LibsRJerks.

This whole thing is so crazy.

3 candidates splitting votes up. No wonder we cannot knock off Liberal Mitt. Rick needs to support Newt since he says Romneycare is bottom up socialism to keep Romney from winning. We will not have a chance to win with Mitt because he will not have the base.
