(CNN) - Mitt Romney's campaign released a blistering new Florida television ad against Newt Gingrich on Monday, eight days before the Sunshine State's presidential primary.
"If Newt wins, this guy would be very happy," the ad's narrator says, as a photo of a smiling President Barack Obama appears on screen.
The 30-second commercial, "Florida Families," is set to air statewide in Florida.
In a part of the country that saw large amounts of home foreclosures, the ad particularly strikes Gingrich over his time as a consultant at mortgage giant Freddie Mac.
"While Florida families lost everything in the housing crisis, Newt Gingrich cashed in," the narrator says.

I just sent Newt some money for Florida. HAVE YOU?
Willard and Leroy both need to engage in a competition to see who can bash the Zer0 pinata harder.
Anyone think Romney would fight Obama like this..... me neither
I offer your article as evidence.
Yes. I just sent him some money. I heard Fox news say Newt was in Tampa and is dishing out so much baloney he may open a delicatessen in Florida soon! I think Romney may have had some investments in Fannie/Freddie. Hope Newt can bring that out somehow.
If all they got is “vote for me because I can beat obama” they are toast.
Bachmann could beat Obama. Heck I could beat Obama. It’s a non-issue.
Nope. After all, Willard is more ideologically aligned with obastard than Newt.
“Gee, I spent millions in florida to slime Newt and all I got was was a 30 point turnaround in Newts favor.”
Last night, but I think that depending on how badly Newt beats him tonight, Newt may kick his ass without too much cash.
Newt is ahead by 9% in Florida {Rassmussen today} and Newt hasn't spent a dime on TV ads.
Me neither. He's John McCain all over again.
Remember when John McCain came out with all the vicious ads against the conservative nominees but you couldn't use Barack Obama's middle name?
John "My Opponent Would Make A Good President" McCain endorsed Mitt Romney. N'uff said
But I know you know what I meant
Yeah Romney, keep on attacking Newt. Heehee
Why? Promoting abortion, promoting homosexual agenda, promoting gun control, promoting government mandated health care, promoting man made global warming.....why is it that you respect him?
And when you wake up on November 7th and read “Obama turns back Romney challenge handily”, then what are you going to say?
Any smile Obama has will be wiped off his face in the first debate with Gingrich.
Gingrich is not the ideal candidate you might come up with if you were allowed to synthesize presidential contenders in a lab. But he is best able, among the present contenders, to take out Obama, and that is critical.
Go Newt!
Romney is a sleazebag! He gets ZERO respect from me won’t get my vote either! I really suspect that he was responsible for the sleaze thrown at Palin, Cain, and Perry.
Fox said NEWT was dishing out baloney?
Romney is a horrible campaigner. He spends lots of other peoples’ money and getting almost no positive results. Gee, that sounds a lot like how 0bama runs the country.
I don’t think Romney can beat Obama. Romney fights like Eddie Haskell.
Remember RomneyCare...
Governor Romney still defends his plan five years later while publicly saying as President he would repeal and replace ObamaCare. But the two plans are similar in at least three significant ways:
Both have an individual mandate that requires people to purchase a private good in this case, health insurance and levies a financial penalty against those who dont.
Both implement a new government bureaucracy called an exchange through which all insurance policies are approved, sold, and heavily regulated.
Both have sizeable subsidies for low-income people to purchase the mandated coverage.
I think from Romneys standpoint the negative adds against “Leroy” in Iowa worked. So now Mitt thinks going really negative against “Leroy” will work in Florida.
Now in Iowa Newt tried to run a positive campaign and got steamrolled. This now Florida and Newt will be fighting back with his own adds against Mitt. New day, new state, new strategy by Newt. I am not sure how the very personal attack adds by Mitt will work. Mitt is not spouting Conservatism he is spouting negativism.
I do think the vetting is good and will make the candidates stronger when they go up against Hussein. GO LEROY GO!
CNN right now is doing an expose of Gingrich’s “money” Adelen something. Every channel is touting Romneys anger.. and pushing it on Newt and all the while praying that Romney can pull this out.
“I just sent Newt some money for Florida. HAVE YOU?”
Yes, last night.
Newt was a consultant. That is like saying the guy who cleaned the toilets there “cashed” in.
What did he cash in on? He wasn’t part of the board, didn’t write any mortgages, didn’t make any decisions, he wasn’t even there when it went under!
And where are all of the “you are attacking capitalism people” drama queens? Let’s see you go ape on Romney over this.
Yes, this morning! It not surprising that Mittens would come out with a "biting" ad, given that Mittens BITES (the big one)!
YOU BETCHA I SENT NEWT MONEY!
ROMNEY IS A SLIMEBAG.
If true, I no longer watch much Fox, then Fox is digging it own hole. Before this is ended I think that Fox will be no more creditable than CNN.
—I dont think Romney can beat Obama.—
That’s the irony in his ads. :)
This won’t help Romney one bit. It will more than likely lose Romney support. Newt has gone up over 20 points in the last week, even with several months and millions spent by Romney against Newt, in an aggressive ad campaign to promote Romney in Florida.
Instead, Romney has tanked and Newt is surging. This will just make the voters dislike Romney all the more, as a dirty, hit below the belt jerk. The SC response tells it all, that the voters are getting sick of the hate ads and the sickening, personal attacks.
Rush noted today that Mr Electability is 9 for 25 in his political career.
Can’t wait:
“My name is Newton LEROY Gingrich and I’m comin after you, Barock Hussein Obama.”
He wins the South/Nascar/and all rednecks inbetween.
Can’t wait:

As I have stated, many times, he’s damned good business man, a good family man, and frankly, a pretty good manager.
But what he isn’t is fiery, and I fear he will get steamrolled by an attacking enemy media, in the same way that McCain was. He’s “Too Nice” of a guy to get down and dirty with Obama, and his handlers too afraid of being called racists, to do what is going to need to be done, namely calling Obama out on his failures.
You are already seeing it with Clyburns “mentioning Food Stamps is RACIST!” B.S.
I have NONE of those fears with Newt. As we are seeing, the enemedia is being FORCED to report what he is saying.
I’m not looking for a Saint for president.
The whole Messiah-as-President thingy isn’t working out to well for us, right now. I’m looking for a FIGHTER, that can force change on to D.C., and get the message out above the din of a hate-filled media.
Because make no mistake. If the Messiah loses, you are going to see an absolute orgy of media hate, with things like reporting homelessness, and joblessness, and soldier deaths suddenly fashionable again.
I made my first political donation in a few years to Newt yesterday. more to come after he wins Florida.
When does Mittens come out in black-face to accuse Newt of racism?
LOL
It had a chance but nice try.
I didn’t feel a thing but laughter. That’s honest laughter for what? I don’t know.
The ad seems desperate and petty. Maybe childish.
I think the part that got me LOL was the ending where they show Gingrich and Obama and then right after that:
“I’m Mitt Romney and I approve this ad” I started laughing right there and fully outloud when I saw him running through a field with his wife and their wind swept hair.
Can’t explain why it was funny but hell...Play it some more.
Just donated and will again every payday.
I have sent Newt money on 4 occasion, in addition to last night.
“I respect Romney”..... THERE IS NOTHING TO RESPECT ABOUT THAT POS.
Not on your life. But I might sent Santorum something.
Romney needs to set up his robo-calls with this message. 7 times per week, per voter. That should drive his votes down to <10%.
I am SO stealing that for my tagline!
I always get a chuckle when I see Romney wearing plaid shirts and Levis trying to dress down for the common folk.
This guy was born with a silver stick up his you-know-what and has no idea what it means to actually having to work for a living doing menial jobs to get started in life...and no amount of purchased negative ads, free old media support, campaign consultants or all the bought and paid for endorsements from the GOP establishment can overcome Romney’s transparent elitist and patronizing view of the Tea Party and GOP grassroots.

In a filmed interview with the editorial board of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, a newspaper serving the hardest-hit foreclosure state in the union, Romney criticized President Barack Obama for not foreclosing on American families fast enough.
“Dont try to stop the foreclosure process. Let it run its course and hit the bottom,” Romney said when asked what he would do to jump-start the floundering housing market.
“Allow investors to buy homes, put renters in them, fix the homes up and let it turn around and come back up,” he continued. “The Obama administration has slow walked the foreclosure process ... that has long existed and as a result we still have a foreclosure overhang.”
I hope Romney continues with this approach - because it won’t work any better than the Marianne threat did. Newt will be talking big ideas, prosperity, and economic freedom while Mitt will be acting like one of those annoying little yappy dogs.
Remember Iowa has <5% unemployment and the caucuses only represented 120,000 votes. That’s not indicative of America, and while his attack machine hurt Gingrich’s numbers there, look how soon the attacks run out of steam. Meanwhile Newt’s passion for American exceptionalim can go forever...
The ethics report on Newt Gingrich is publicly available, but has been construed as politically motivated. The alleged violations concerned a course that Gingrich taught at Kennesaw State College while serving in Congress. The courses promoters received financial support from individuals, corporations and foundations, promising that the project qualified for tax-exempt status. The ethics committee ultimately concluded that the course was actually a coordinated effort to help in achieving a partisan, political goal something that would run afoul of its tax-exempt status.
And yet, when the IRS looked into those accusations in a three-year investigation, it found that the donations to Gingrichs charity were consistent with its stated exempt purposes, and Gingrichs course and course book were educational in content, according to The Washington Post in 1999. By then, Gingrich had left office, preferring retirement to a fight over leadership.
Gingrich adamantly denied violating the law, but ultimately agreed to pay a $300,000 fine for making misleading statements to the ethics committee.
It appears that Gingrich was fined, mostly for political cover to the Republicans. The IRS declared that Gingrichs course was educational and never favored or opposed a candidate for public office.
You might want to do a check on that. Supposedly there is documentation that the $300,000 was specifically for reimbursement by Newt of the cost of the investigation and that it was not a fine.
